On Wednesday, Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks described Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis as "decent." Nicks' teammate Victor Cruz added that "Teams aren’t really scared (of him) anymore. He’s had to earn his money this year. Teams aren’t really backing down. I feel like we’re going to do the same thing. We’re going to go out. Until he physically stops us we’re going to throw the ball on him."

A day later and Revis has responded.

"I'm not a monster," he said, presumably laughing. "So why would anyone be scared?" He then added (via CBSSports.com Rapid Reporter Lisa Zimmerman): "I don't even know who (they are). If I want entertainment, I'll watch reality shows."

Because there's nothing more insulting than to have someone in your line of work -- and who happens to share the same building -- feign surprise that you actually exist.

Antonio Cromartie, the Jets’ other starting cornerback, dispensed with the jokes and got right to rebutting. Regarding Nicks and Cruz he said (via the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta):"You got guys that are not even Pro Bowl material... Who really cares what they have to say?” And he saved these sentiments for Mario Manningham: "He let a guy named Victor Cruz come in and take his job."

Hey, at least Cromartie didn’t call anybody an a-hole.

Rex Ryan, voice of reason, weighed in, too. When apprised of Nicks and Cruz’s original comments he offered this (again via Zimmerman):

"The list would be a lot longer before I got to Revis," he said of the criticisms. He also put out a reminder of the how the Jets defensive scheme works. "[Revis] has almost zero help (in the backfield)."

This game can’t get here fast enough. Luckily, thanks to Christmas falling on a Sunday, the Jets and Giants will play Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Giants and Jets are both battling it out to make the playoffs and Saturday's game will look to play a deciding roll in who advances to the postseason. Join Jason Horowitz and NFL.com's Pat Kirwan for a preview of this game.

Revis, Cromartie respond to slights from NYG WRs

That is ALWAYS the best way to handle trash talkers. Ignore them. they get frustrated, and they are the one playing worse.

Rather than trash talking, Cromartie should be studying game films and trying to remember the names of his 7 or 8 illegitimate children. Neither one of these team of clowns (including their coaches) will be in the post season.

Revis, Cromartie respond to slights from NYG WRs

I am a Giants fan (obviously).  That being said - to our WRs - SHUT UP and catch the damn ball.  I'm not sure these guys could catch if the league allowed Stick 'Em back in.  Yes, I know they catch a lot more than they drop and Cruz is having a killer year and Nicks isn't so bad himself.  But the Giants WRs have been dropping WAY too many balls lately.  Think of what Eli's numbers could be if they could hold on to them.  And these aren't tough catches.  I realize a guy stretching as far as he can when the ball pushes past his fingertips isn't the WR's fault, but these guys are dropping what should be sure grabs for them (and no, I can't do any better, but I don't get paid to play in the NFL).  The last thing you want to do is get a guy like Revis fired up to play better.  From everything I've seen, he just takes that, channels it and winds up making you look like a President that just lost his re-election bid - you're tired, beaten, look like hell, and you wonder where the time just went.  You become yesterday's news, fast.  So again, for Pete's sake, please just shut up, catch the ball, and let's win out to make the playoffs!!

Revis, Cromartie respond to slights from NYG WRs

Revis is the only shutdown corner in the league right now. If he was playing back in the Sanders era I think people would be arguing which of the two is better, as they'd both just shut down their sides of the field. Revis already pretty much takes an entire field away for the most part, Peyton Manning pretty much entirely ignores him and he's honestly the only QB that ever puts up great stats against the Jets defense. I think Peyton probably knows what he is doing.

I remember Rodgers couldn't score a TD, and Brees tried picking on Revis but could barely do anything either. Brady throws these ridiculously amazing passes to get 7 yard completions to Welker, and then goes back to ignoring Revis.

If people want to write about an overrated CB, you really have to mention Namdi Asomugha. Now that is a player that is very overrated. I think if anything Revis is probably underrated. The gap is pretty big between him and the next players.

Revis, Cromartie respond to slights from NYG WRs

First i'd like to say I'm a die hard Giants fan,but both these teams suck right now. Revis is good but a bit overhyped I loved when moss caught that one hander on him and he went straight for the leg lastyear ((toast)). With that said ((Victor Cruz)) I think 1200 yards and 7 Tds in in 13 games not starting in like the first 4 is probowl material. Cromartie will get burt atlest TWICE in this game.
