Earlier Saturday evening, we told you about the report that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson tore his ACL today. That breaking news, unfortunately for the Vikings, was accurate, and it, in fact, might be even worse.

The team announced Saturday night that an MRI confirmed that Peterson had torn his ACL and that coach Leslie Frazier would discuss the matter at his Monday afternoon news conference. ESPN 1500’s Tom Pelissero also reported that Peterson tore his MCL but did not tear his PCL.

This confirmation, of course, was what Peterson was afraid of after Redskins safety DeJon Gomes blasted him from the side and bent his knee in an unnatural direction.

"It was very severe, the pain was," Peterson said after the Minnesota win. "Once it kind of eased up, I was able to kind of roll around and kind of grasp what just took place."

More from Pelissero:
Surgery may not occur for several weeks, depending on the extent of additional ligament and/or cartilage damage.

An optimistic timetable would have Peterson returning to action no sooner than September. And recent research suggests even an athlete of Peterson's caliber may struggle to return to his previous performance level.

It is, to say the least, a terrible piece of news for Peterson and the organization.

MRI reveals Adrian Peterson tore his ACL

This is a terrible set back for AP and the Vikings.  We all wish AP the best of luck in his rehab.  That said, does the AP injury change our draft strategy?  I'd hate to think APs best days are behind him, but if that is the case, should we think about trading down a few spots to pick up more picks and drafting Trent Richardson?

MRI reveals Adrian Peterson tore his ACL

This is tragic news for Adrian Peterson, his big contract, and the immediate future of the Vikings. But AP has been so good that I am ready to wait for him. He is a beast, and he will return with a vengance. It just may not be in 2012.

I hate the Packers. Always have. I would never relish in a severe injury to their star. I want Aaron Rodgers to stay in that pocket until we find a way to sack his a-- on a regular basis. And that day will come. He is fun to watch, though, the best in the game (like #28).

Still, I do not take offense to posts on these boards. They are what they are. And any post that elicits anger from you was sent with that intent. Think about why someone would want the reader to get mad? What purpose does that serve?

Congrats on a great season both Packers and Lions fans. Our time will not be 2012, but expect us back on top soon.

MRI reveals Adrian Peterson tore his ACL

Come on now... I really don't see anything excessively disturbing about Pokers post. As a Packers fan, I too am glad to know that as a team, the Vikings will continue to suck. I also agree that you never want to see a player endure the kind of injury Adrian Peterson endured. That is just downright inhumane. If you look objectively past the issue of the monumental loss... you'll see he isn't being overtly ridiculous in his post.

I agree with you that people wishing harm to opposing players or teams is downright ignorant. I hate to see Adrian Peterson go down with this type of injury and wish him a speedy and successful recovery from this unfortunate setback.

MRI reveals Adrian Peterson tore his ACL

I hate to see any player get injured. Unfortunately, so called fans of teams get this pathetic joy of seeing players hurt and/or wishing harm. The Vikings are no different, one idiot in particular just wished for Drew Brees to get his knee injured during last weeks game and on other occasions wish their plane would crash. You know who you are. But we all have to excuse these low life POS morons, as they have no home training and no place in society. Their hatred is their fuel I hope AP's recovery is a swift one and good luck in 2012.

I appologize to AP and fans of his everywhere. i take total blame. If it wasn't for me drafting him this year in my FF league, he'd still be running like a deer. Oh, if I could just do it over AP would be winning a championship for someone truly deserving.

Get well soon AP, you've got more years left.

Don't judge Packers fans by the idiot "poker" retard and his comments. Don't judge anything in fact by anything writen on these sports blogs. 90% of them are by little kids that are on their mommies computers and don't know anything about sports or life in general. They are just immature little people that think they are being funny. Injuries are worst aspect of football and all sports for that matter. 16 games is too long of a season to start with. It isn't the best team quite often that wins in all just the most healhy at the end of the season.

MRI reveals Adrian Peterson tore his ACL

Just to reiterate what has been said before. It's a wonder how everyone despises Packers fans.......... Every idiotic comment is put on here by a Packer backer. Not just despised by Viking fans but NFL fans also. It's not about AP to them who I believe is a great role model for the NFL and a class act. It's about the Vikings and how they are doomed b/c they picked up their beloved Favre. I don't look at it as a Vikings thing. The NFL will not be as fun to watch without AP out there. Everyone has an opinion. Injuries happen to everyone but if I were an owner for an NFL franchise I would want my star players out there fighting for each and every yard like warriors. In every game that counts. A game for a team that was 2-12 isn't a game that counts.

Let's Review Wis Poker Guy's idiocy...

I'm a Wisconsinite and huge Packer fan too.  Wis Poker Guy, saying you are a Packer fan doesn't excuse your stupid comments.  Adrian Peterson is a great back who truly is amazing to watch...much like Walter Payton in his prime.  Payton had some of his biggest games against the Pack and while it hurt to see losses to the Bears one still could appreciate the talent and passion.  Same with Peterson.  Wis Poker Guy....your joy that Peterson has suffered a career-threatening injury is just pathetic.  Any day.....especially Christmas.  To say "you don't hope injury" on anyone is just a cop out....everything else says unbridled joy in your post.

Wish you'd leave Wisconsin.  Yours is not the feelings of respectable Packer fans.  Go crawl under your rock.
