Is Brian Dawkins' career in jeopardy?

B. Dawkins is having neck troubles that could derail his career (US Presswire).

By Josh Katzowitz

As Tim Tebow-infatuated as everybody in the NFL seems to be (in good times and bad), sometimes we have to point out how much the Broncos improving defense has contributed to keeping him in games in order to win them late.

On Saturday, vs. a Bills team that’s taken a huge nosedive in the second half of the season, the Broncos proved that if the defense isn’t good, Tebow has no shot at winning. And one reason for the Denver defensive no-show was because Brian Dawkins had to leave the game with more neck troubles.

As the Denver Post points out, there are concerns that his neck issues ultimately will end his 16-year career.

“I don’t want to talk about the neck,” Dawkins said after the Bills 40-14 rampage was complete.

But how can we NOT talk about the neck, especially if it’s going to derail a top-notch career and put the Broncos playoff potential in a perilous place? Dawkins didn’t play last week, and the Patriots dominated. Dawkins didn’t play much Saturday, and Buffalo dominated. The trend might not be coincidental, especially because Dawkins is still effective against the run.

Dawkins said he didn’t know if he could play next week in the regular season finale against the Chiefs for the right to go to the postseason. But there is this: without Dawkins, the Raiders chances to win almost certainly decrease.

Is Brian Dawkins' career in jeopardy?

Let's all hope we haven't seen the last of Brian Dawkins.  He has been the force the Broncos needed in their locker room.  Just like he was for the Eagles.  I hope he wears his Green jersey for the HOF, when it's time.

Is Brian Dawkins' career in jeopardy?

Let me first say that I'm a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. That being said, I always respected Brian Dawkins and the way he plays the game. I was hoping the Cowboys and not the Broncos would have signed him, leadership he  brings to a defense is something you can't coach. you either have it or you don't

Is Brian Dawkins' career in jeopardy?

Bluestone's thread early in this comment section needs to be appreciated.  That is, a long-time Giants fan giving the credit that is deserved, for Brian Dawkins.  He is STILL missed on the Eagles board.  And even MUCH more in the lockerroom.  There was never any doubt who the leader was for the Eagles.  His skills had eroded quite a bit his last 2 years in Philly, particularly in coverage.  But they morphed the D to not only account for this, but to also enhance Dawk's skills.  He was essentially a "Wild Card" linebacker for them.  His ball-hawking skills were also missed immediately, when he left.  To be honest, I knew Philly would not cough up the bucks they needed to, in order to keep him there.  On the other hand, everyone in that city was happy for him when the Broncos cracked open the checkbook.  I hope this injury isn't the end for him.  But I suspect if he's impaired in any way, he will hang them up.  He only has one speed that he knows, full-out.  Good Luck Dawk!  I can't think of one safety now or before, that measures up to Dawkins.

Is Brian Dawkins' career in jeopardy?

I hated to read this article.  I will say this now: I am a lifelong, dyed-blue Giants fan and I watched this man torment my team for thirteen years on the Eagles.  Of all the safety play I have watched in my life (and there have been some great safeties) I put Dawkins up there with Polamalu and Reed.  He was the heart and soul of the Philly defense and the very definition of a hall of fame player.

Is Brian Dawkins' career in jeopardy?

What are you talking about... he's one of the hardest playing but cleanest players in the game... and I'm not even a Broncos fan... why don't you walk us through the myriad "dirty" plays from Dawkins over the past 10+ years? Actually, why don't you list just 3 to make it easier for you... or 1 for that matter... why don't you learn a little about the game and then come back to play with the big boys...
