Tony Romo's hand had a nasty run-in with Jason Babin's helmet on Saturday during Dallas' 20-7 loss to Philly, and the result was similar to getting hit in the mouth with your grandmother's green bean casserole: swelling of awkward proportions.

As such, there are plenty of Cowboys fans concerned about Romo's status for Week 17's division-deciding matchup against the Giants. But reports indicate that Romo will be "fine" and that the Cowboys won't pursue any free agent quarterbacks.

Week 16 Recap

That's according to Ed Werder of ESPN, who reports that Dallas isn't seeking to ink a veteran quarterback, which means they likely believe Romo's capable of starting -- and beating -- the Giants on Sunday.

"He will be fine," a source told Werder.

Romo said on Saturday that he could've returned to the game if the Cowboys needed a win to clinch the division and/or the outcome of the Cowboys game affected the playoff race at all.

"I would've tried very hard," Romo said. "No question. I did a little bit but the coaching staff decided against that."

Good for the coaching staff -- letting Romo play in a meaningless game with a busted hand would've been irresponsible. It stinks for people who bet on the Cowboys, it stinks for fantasy owners, it stinks for Romo's competitive nature and it stinks for him trying to post the best numbers of his career.

But it was a smart decision by Jason Garrett to keep Romo on the sidelines, and if it pays off with his quarterback being healthy and beating the Giants to win the NFC East, it'll look ever smarter.

Report: Tony Romo 'fine,' no new QB for Cowboys

Wow...didn't realize my comments would stir up such a storm. In case anyone missed it, I am a Giants fan and was simply pointing out all the credit Manning is getting this year and all the blame Romo always seems to get. I was not comparing the two, in fact I hope Romo throws four interceptions Sunday night. As a Giants fan I understand that 2007 was an exceptional playoff run and was one that I believe Manning is not capable of duplicating. Minus the year he is having this year he has been an above avergae QB the past three season BUT NOT elite like Rodgers, Brees or Brady.  Its unfortunate that in today's society success in any sport is governed by how many championships you win. Too bad for all those worthless QB's like Marino, and Tarkenton who never won a championship (comment dripping with sarcasm in case you are slow).

Report: Tony Romo 'fine,' no new QB for Cowboys

Are you kidding, Eli Manning has never been better than Tony Romo..

That's your opinion and your entitled to it..Does not make it true or correct.

Manning has had one season with single digit Interceptions and he only started 7 games that season,

Means nothing in the grand scheme of things..but to you it does....I guess it did not help your Cowboys when you lost to the Giants at home this year.

so he has 2 more comebacks this year than Romo, that just means he blows through 3 1/2 quarters of the game

This makes no sense. But since you said it then, I guess Romo blows even more based on your own logic being applied here.

and he didnt beat Romo this year, if you remember correct Romo drove them down the field in 30 seconds and the field goal was blocked, against the Cardinals he drove them down in less time than that and Garrett called a timeout.

Why are you trying to Justify it..I never Eli beat Romo one on one...Eli Drove the Giants down the field and gave them the lead, which wound up winning them the game. Romo could not get them in the endzone he tried his best but it did not work out.

 Eli's completion % is just below 60% comapred to Romo's 65%,

Eli is not below 60% and again it seems like your using anything to justify your argument. Bottom line...Eli has done more with less.

how bout QB rating's Romo's 96.8 career rating to Eli's 81.6 which by the way Romo is second all time to Aaron Rodgers...

Here is a tip QB rating is not a accurate depition of how well a QB plays. That is why that stat is considered obsolete now that we have Total QB rating and by the way with the exception of this year Eli has been better than Romo...and this year is not over yet.

You can say all day that Romo hasn't won a super bowl, whoopty doo, so the Cowboys didn't have an absolutley dominate defense which Eli did that year, he won 4 playoff games that year, 0 before and 0 since...

I am not even sure what your trying to prove with this comment...all you have to do is look at the Giants vs Cowboy game in 2007 to see Eli throwing two TDs to beat your Boys and with the Game on the Line Romo could not get it done.

So what makes Manning better because he's not a Dallas Cowboy... Manning has never had better stats than Romo in any category until this year and this year he has more yards and thats it...7 more int's and 3 less TD's, so talk all the garbage you want facts are facts, if you want you can research cause thats all I did, I get sick of hearing how Eli's bitch ass is better because of his dumbass ring, Marino doesnt have one either and niether Romo or Manning is better than Marino, Eli or Peyton

Looks like you have your facts WRONG. You said any catagory..2009 Eli more TDs..in 2008 Eli had less Ints total QB rating Eli was better in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Look, you can argue all you want..If your happy with Romo thats great..good for you..but you should get your facts straight and understand that Eli has done considerably more with far less than Romo...if you can't admit that than your liying to yourself...All I know is Eli gave the Giants a Super Bowl and he did it by conducting two drives to take leads in the second half of the game agains one of the greatest teams in NFL history...remember that...Eli drove them doen that field not the defense.

Report: Tony Romo 'fine,' no new QB for Cowboys

I just want to know who the hell would the Cowboys have gotten at QB that would be ready for the most important game of the season, on the road, in one week's time???????  Are they for real???

I'm a Dallas fan, but the inept management and coaching of this team this year is absolutely killing me.  Garrett has no clue how to lead this team in the 4th qtr.  His numerous blunders in crunch time are mind boggling considering he is a Princeton grad who should be able to analyze the situation well ahead of time.  Rob Ryan just likes to talk a big game and puts in all of these exotic schemes that confuse the crap out of everyone.  And Jerry Jones comes out and says Garrett "is just getting started".....well that's just great.  I can't wait to see what his encore is next year - I'm not sure there are many more ways to lose games than Garrett has this year....

Report: Tony Romo 'fine,' no new QB for Cowboys

I mean Eli Manning is having the best season of his career and it's still not as good as Romo's.

I mean Eli has thrown for more yards, is the best QB in the fourth Quarter this year, has more come from behind wins than any other Qb this year (Romo ought to know, he beat those Cowboys in the 4th QT) and is better than Romo.

Say what you want without Romo the Cowboys don't win 6 games.

Since Eli has 6 4th QT Game Winning Drives this year, the Giants harldy win 2 games

Who gives a shit about his damn hand, all this shit does is cause drama, everything is Tony Romo's fault, all the losses and the december losses and only one playoff win since 96 it's all because of Tony Romo, I mean he doesn't have the 2nd best QB rating in NFL history, I mean Eli Manning is having the best season of his career and it's still not as good as Romo's. Say what you want without Romo the Cowboys don't win 6 games.

Correction...Manning has thrown for more yards but other than that he is behind Romo in just about every passing category...

In case no one has noticed depsite the "awesome year" Manning is supposedly having (26 TD and 16 int) his numbers appear pretty avergae to me

Not up to date on football news are you....you look at TDs and Int but fail to leave out his 4587 yrds passing, after this week he will come close if not surpass 4900 yards. Along with being the highest rated QB in the 4th QT this year and leads the league in comeback wins and he has carried this team all season despite its bad defense and lack of a running game. His numbers are above avg and he is having a great year. FYI....Its not just the fans proclaiming his great year
