Panthers linebacker Kion Wilson reported that four guns were stolen from the back of his truck in a Best Buy parking lot on Monday, according CBSSports.com's Panthers Rapid Reporter Jeff Hawkins.

Wilson told Charlotte police that four guns -- a Glock 23, a 12-gauge shotgun, a 57 FN handgun and a Smith and Wesson -- were stolen from his Ford F-150 on Monday.

The value of the guns is estimated at $1,700. Police are investigating into who stole the guns and, per Hawkins, the police report indicated that the door lock on the truck was damaged as well.

Presumably, Wilson has a permit to own the guns, because otherwise reporting the theft of such guns to the police wouldn't be the smartest move in the world.

The bigger issue for Wilson may be how the Panthers and the NFL look the situation.

Even if Wilson was legally carrying the guns in his truck, having the arsenal that Wilson did in his car in the parking lot of a consumer electronics store a few days after Christmas isn't exactly the type of thing that the NFL wants to see from its players.

UPDATE: The Charlotte Observer's Joe Person writes that Panthers general manager Marty Hurley said all of Walker's guns were registered and he was licensed to travel with them. Wilson also told his teammates that he was on his way to a shooting range, when he stopped at the mall to return an item to Best Buy. When he returned to his truck, the guns were missing.

Why is this even a story? he legally had the guns, he reports it to the police that they were stolen. Why would it be an issue? Why would Goodell and the NFL enter into the discussion? Now if he had them illegally, than it becomes an issue with the police and the NFL. IF this was Peyton Manning or Drew Brees would this article have been written? I doubt it. to me this article is borderline racism.

We need a new Constitution probably.

You think? I think that is a gross understatement. Kind of like saying the bible is full of facts and should be taken literally to guide or modern ethical decisions, huh?

3 handguns and a shotgun for what purpose?  Does he think he can hunt near Charlotte?  It is clearly not a very violent city.  If he was on his way to a shooting range, why was he at a Best Buy?  This whole story is Wilson bragging about owning the guns and he got ripped off because he talked about the guns to others.  This has nothing to do with defense of a home or protecting a loved one.  Now, the firearms will likely become instruments of terror
Did you not read the article? Is english not your first language?  First, if you own them legally you do not need a "purpose" for the guns.  I don't know what the hunting is like near Charlotte but I am guessing that there are places to hunt not too far out of the city, although the article clearly states he was not going hunting.  Wilson was going to the shooting range.  If you are going to own guns (which is your 2nd Amendment right) then you have a responsibility to know how to use them safely, and effectively, to hunt or to protect your home, yourself or your loved ones -- that includes, in my opinion, regular trips to a range to practice and maintain your skill and aim.  He was at Best Buy to "return and item"

This has nothing to do with "bragging".  You have, in my opinion, a duty to make a report to the police if your guns are stolen so that they hopefully do not become "instruments of terror" as you so dramatically put it.  Unfortunately for Wilson, he happens to be a professional athlete and and so this becomes national news, rather than likely no more than a short blurb in the local paper.

FYI -- In the interest of full disclosure, I have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.  My gun is always at least in my car and often in a holster under my jacket.  Does that make me a "thug" even though I have never had occassion or need, thank God, to use the gun on another human being?  Does it change some of your opinions if you know I am a middle-aged, white, middle-class male with a professional degree and not a black athlete?

So, leaving a cashe of weapons in your truck when you 'run into Best Buy to return an item' (?)  is okay by you, and you don't see the irony in your statement whatsoever?  Good grief.
4 guns is hardly a "cache".  And no, its not a big deal to have them in your LOCKED vehicle while you go into another store.  I don't know if Wilson did or not, but I would suggest having them out of view in the vehicle just so as not to tempt theives.  Quite frankly, I am not a millionaire athlete but I have had that many guns/rifles in my car while going to the range to shoot -- and contrary to what another poster says this is hardly making a "statement" or about prestige by owning 4 guns, none of which are particularly rare/expensive.  I do not know what part of the country some of the clearly anti-gun posters live in, but here, in SW Missouri, taking 3 handguns and a shotgun to the range is not at all unusual.

Wilson had the guns legally.  He had them in a locked vehicle.  The "problem" is not Wilson, the "problem" is the lowlifes who would rather steal my property and yours and committ crimes than actualy get a job and work for what they want and need.

The comments and tone of the blog entry show you why the US is the mess it is now. If you can't even support someone's Constitutional rights for something this simple, why the fuck do you morons expect elected officials to respect YOUR Constitutional rights and uphold them for YOU?

The Constitution is just a piece of useless paper. It is a great piece of paper with great ideals and a very good system set out in it. But if the people refuse to read it, understand it, and then do their best to enforce it, then it is a piece of garbage. The Constitution was set out to protect you the people from your government, from a police state, from tyranny. But you all just turned around and gave up all those rights because it was too much for you. And even that wasn't enough for you, you not only did not want to keep your rights and be watchful of those that would violate your rights, you had to turn around and support the people stealing your rights against your fellow citizens.

The founding fathers would be rolling in their graves reading this crap. Then again a bunch of them were racist and owned slaves so maybe they wouldn't care I guess. We need a new Constitution probably.

He bought the guns as a status symbol. That shows he is another example of a priviledged athlete deciding to be part of the problem instead of part of the solution. He has the right to buy them. He also has a right to grow up and pull his head out of his arse. Would it not be fitting if one of those guns was later used to kill one his loved ones. Then will he be bragging how cool his glock is.

@cochiefsfan..." where i live most people own guns and never use them for anything illegal, most crimes commited involving a gun it had been stolen."
So, leaving a cashe of weapons in your truck when you 'run into Best Buy to return an item' (?)  is okay by you, and you don't see the irony in your statement whatsoever?  Good grief.
