Report: Tebow Broncos starter in 2012 regardless

Denver and Kansas City square off on Sunday with plenty at stake: the Broncos want to win the AFC West, and the Chiefs want to give Kyle Orton redemption for being benched and released by Denver earlier this year. Reportedly not at stake, though? Tim Tebow's job as a starter.

That's according to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington, who reports that Tebow is locked as the starter for Denver in 2012, regardless of whether or not the Broncos make the playoffs.

"Sources have indicated, regardless of the outcome Sunday, the Broncos plan to move forward with the mindset that Tebow will remain the team's starter in 2012," Darlington wrote Friday.

Darlington's also got a juicy nugget about the relationship between Orton and Tebow. The Broncos quarterbacks have a fine system that keeps each other accountable (this is common among NFL position players) and the group began fining Tebow when fans bought billboards demanding that Orton be benched and Tebow get starts.

Though this ultimately happened, it pretty clearly created a rift and explains why the Broncos let Orton go. (Darlington also reports that allowing Tebow to have "better control of the locker room" was a deciding factor in Orton's release.) But if letting Orton go ultimately costs the Broncos a shot at the playoffs, it's simply an indefensible decision.

A totally defensible one is keeping Tebow ingrained as the starter. There are many reasons for this. He's under contract in 2012. He won games. He could progress as a passer. There won't be a franchise quarterback available when the Broncos draft next April. Using picks to trade up grab a quarterback ignores other needs. The Broncos are still technically "rebuilding," and drafting defensive players would serve them better. Tim Tebow is an absolute cash cow for the team. Giving him a vote of confidence now only decreases the scrutiny on the situation leading into the final parts of this season.

The list could go on for a while. Which is why it makes a lot of sense for the Broncos to have already arrived at the decision that Tim Tebow's their starter in 2012. Even if their 2011 starter manages to knock them out of the playoff hunt.

Report: Tebow Broncos starter in 2012 regardless

Tebow has already obliterated John Elway's Broncos rookie record by a starter, back in '83 the same things were said about Elway from everything from his pocket-passing to his arm angle yet he (Elway) suprised everyone, perhaps the same may be said for Tebow. If nothing else Tebow will have the off-season with Elway to hone the skills needed to make him (Tebow) a better pocket-passing QB.

Of course, Fox also said Orton was without question the starter for the 2011. Bill Cowher said a few months ago, that he had NO plans on coaching in`12, but if the Giants job opens up, he`s there. Back during the`99 season Ron Wolf said Rhodes job is secure for the `00 season. Just after the year ended was fired. I don`t understand why they report these things, when there is still 7 months before training camps open.

Cuda Why do you say that TT is selfish, yet you have Gators as your favorite team?

33037Cuda, I researched your history of posts due to the fact that you have the Gators listed as your favorite team yet you have frequently gone out of your way to degrade TT and his efforts.  You have used the word selfish to describe him and I wonder why you say that.  Is it because he runs the ball instead of passing to the wideouts or letting the backs have the ball?  Or is it the publicity?  I have been a gatorfan for 40 years, my sister taught there, my daughter got her masters there, but I just don't understand your motivation.

Warnertoholt, are you really trying to compare Tebow with Bradshaw and Namath? Please stop, you are making a fool of yourself. Here is the truth, different game today than when those guys were playing. So why are you even mentioning these QB's in the same sentance. Back than you could mug a reciever and receive no penalty, today you cannot touch them. Your arguement about passing percentage is completely meaningless. In today's game if you can't complete 50% of your passes you are not only not a very good starting QB, you days in the league are numbered. You cannot win over the long haul with these numbers. Either Tebow improves dramatically or he is destined to fail. Don't be fooled by Tebows winning streak. That was more about Denver's defense playing great and keeping them in the game than it was about Tim Tebow. You see what happens when Denvers defense is human, they get killed.

This article really is stupid and pointless. I live in Denver. Everyone here knows that Tebow is going to be the starter for the foreseeable future (i.e. next year). That's not news. He has invigorated the fan base in a way that hasn't been done in a long time. Don't get me wrong, there are many Bronco fans that are still skeptics but no one thinks he should be benched after leading the team to the playoffs (or almost playoffs).

when Orton was the starting QB, anyone who mentioned "Broncos" and "playoffs" in the same sentence wouldve gotten the Jim Mora reaction...they had no shot with Orton starting...as a Broncos fan, im not sold on Tebow long-term, but this team turned around when he took over as the starting QB...

Tebow is no sure thing, but his play has earned him the spot next year. I am interested in seeing how this kid can develop.

Shoot holes in this plan.
First: The Broncos will pick somewhere around 23rd.  With that pick they should be able to get one of the top two CB's in the draft
when the second pick comes around they may still be able to get another top RB or LB The combination makes them better.
Then add a big blocking/catching Tight end through Free agency. If Cornelius Ingram still has anything left in the tank after his injuries, he will be a great receiving tight end.
I think that those moves along with working in the off season and the Broncos will be a favorited contender in most of the games next season.
I think JFox is a great coach and will make the Broncos strong again.  And if TT doesn't work out for you next year then, you will have built up the foundations of a good team that will lure in a great Free agent QB.   Either way, win, win.
