Report: Tebow Broncos starter in 2012 regardless

Denver and Kansas City square off on Sunday with plenty at stake: the Broncos want to win the AFC West, and the Chiefs want to give Kyle Orton redemption for being benched and released by Denver earlier this year. Reportedly not at stake, though? Tim Tebow's job as a starter.

That's according to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington, who reports that Tebow is locked as the starter for Denver in 2012, regardless of whether or not the Broncos make the playoffs.

"Sources have indicated, regardless of the outcome Sunday, the Broncos plan to move forward with the mindset that Tebow will remain the team's starter in 2012," Darlington wrote Friday.

Darlington's also got a juicy nugget about the relationship between Orton and Tebow. The Broncos quarterbacks have a fine system that keeps each other accountable (this is common among NFL position players) and the group began fining Tebow when fans bought billboards demanding that Orton be benched and Tebow get starts.

Though this ultimately happened, it pretty clearly created a rift and explains why the Broncos let Orton go. (Darlington also reports that allowing Tebow to have "better control of the locker room" was a deciding factor in Orton's release.) But if letting Orton go ultimately costs the Broncos a shot at the playoffs, it's simply an indefensible decision.

A totally defensible one is keeping Tebow ingrained as the starter. There are many reasons for this. He's under contract in 2012. He won games. He could progress as a passer. There won't be a franchise quarterback available when the Broncos draft next April. Using picks to trade up grab a quarterback ignores other needs. The Broncos are still technically "rebuilding," and drafting defensive players would serve them better. Tim Tebow is an absolute cash cow for the team. Giving him a vote of confidence now only decreases the scrutiny on the situation leading into the final parts of this season.

The list could go on for a while. Which is why it makes a lot of sense for the Broncos to have already arrived at the decision that Tim Tebow's their starter in 2012. Even if their 2011 starter manages to knock them out of the playoff hunt.

Report: Tebow Broncos starter in 2012 regardless

What people fail to realize is that this Denver Bronco team has a lot of holes and needs. This team needs help at RB, WR, TE, DB, etc. This team is still two years away from doing any type of serious damage in the playoffs, whether Tebow is the QB or not only time will tell if he can improve his QB skills. It would be very rare for a near playoff team to discard its starting QB regardless. Also another factor is that everybody knows that Tebow has to improve his passing ability even Tebow. The Broncos and the coaching staff are not using the complete playbook and they are trying to run the darn ball a little too much. Tebow is in quite a bit of 3rd and long situations. If the Broncos make the playoffs then it is gravy, house money this team would not have gotten a chance to be the playoffs without Tebow. This is pretty much his first year with no off season and a different coaching staff, he is not trying to change the league.

Report: Tebow Broncos starter in 2012 regardless

Prediction
Colts Win
Rams Lose
Rams trade #1 pick to Denver, Denver takes Luck, then in an ironic twist.......
Luck refuses to play for Denver
Denver trades Luck to Colts
So, Tebow will be Broncos starter next year!

Correction.  This is great news for Tim Tebow fans.  Denver Broncos fans want to see their team in a Super Bowl as soon as possible.  The so called "experts" have watched and played more football than you can imagine and they've never seen a QB with a career completion percentage of 48.6% win a Super Bowl.  A lot went right during the Broncos 6 game winning streak

Chocobastic:  Newsflash....every team wants to see their team win the Super Bowl....I am sure the Eagles fans wanted it when McNabb was their quarterback...I am sure Dolphins fans wanted it when Marino was their quarterback....I am sure the Bills fans wanted it when Kelly was their quarterback.  My point is that a great quarterback does not guarantee a Super Bowl championship.  Teams have won with Dilfer, Hostetler, and even Brad Johnson.

The so called "experts" have been wrong on so many fronts....does Ryan Leaf still bring back memories of when the "experts" were debating who was better between Manning and him.  What about the experts and David Carr?  The "experts" get paid for an opinion and those opinions change daily.  Remember when the experts said that Joe Montana didn't have the arm strength to be a NFL quarterback.  Don't believe the experts.  Tebow's intangibles are immeasurable and he will be a winner in the NFL.

As far as a lot going right during a six game winning streak....umm...any team that has a six game winning streak has a lot go right.  That comment makes no sense.  I don't see too many teams having six game winning streaks when things are going badly.

This means nothing.  Tebow will only be starter unless someone better comes along, same as every other starter at every other position in the league.

That is great news for Denver fans....what everyone keeps forgetting is that the guy is a winner and he is in his first full season as an NFL quarterback (before people start correcting me...I understand he is not a rookie).  He will get nothing but better.  The so called "experts" will be eating their words about him within five years.  Win or lose on Sunday at least he has given the Broncos a breath of fresh air.  If Orton had stayed the Broncos were on their way to a 2-14 record.  The only good news with that was they may have possibly gotten LUCKy in the draft.

Correction.  This is great news for Tim Tebow fans.  Denver Broncos fans want to see their team in a Super Bowl as soon as possible.  The so called "experts" have watched and played more football than you can imagine and they've never seen a QB with a career completion percentage of 48.6% win a Super Bowl.  A lot went right during the Broncos 6 game winning streak.  They played some bad teams or teams with key players hurt.  They played some very good defense and got pick 6's and huge stops.  Tim Tebow clutched up in a big way when he needed too.  But all that doesn't erase how ugly Tebow's average plays were during that stretch.  The Broncos have gone huge stretches without first downs.  They are terrible on third and long.  And as much as Tebow defenders reference bad play calls and dropped balls by receivers, Tim just misses too many passes to wide open receivers.  When you don't get the easy plays you don't keep drives alive to rest your defense.

There is no reason for the Broncos to let the inmates run the asylum and just because Tim has a huge fan following is not a reason for the Broncos not to take a chance on drafting a QB in 2012.  Tim should absolutely be on the roster next year as the Broncos have already made an investment in his five year contract that is worth seeing out for at least another year, but Tim is not a franchise QB yet.  In fact, it's very questionable whether there's another team in the league who would start Tebow right now, and there's certainly no playoff team who would prefer Tim.

Correction. This is great news for fans of other AFC west teams, especially the Raiders.
