Colts wrap up the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft

D. Orlovsky and P. Manning (US Presswire).

Congratulations to the Colts for sewing up the No. 1 draft pick. Now, they might have quite a conundrum on their hands.

With their 19-13 loss to the Jaguars today, Indianapolis overcomes a strong rally by the Rams in order to keep the No. 1 selection for next year’s draft.

That means either the Colts likely will select Andrew Luck with the top pick and put him behind Peyton Manning, assuming Manning is healthy, on the depth chart. Or the Colts could trade the No. 1 pick for what should be a slew of draft picks. Or they could simply move on from Manning and trade him away.

While there are plenty of other issues for the Colts to resolve -- including finding some semblance of a running game (56 yards on the day) -- Indianapolis also has to found a quarterback of the future.

We’ve seen this year just how important that position is to the Colts, and if Manning can continue his career, you have to wonder how many years he has left. If it’s three or less, it makes sense to grab Luck.

Asked after the game about Luck, Manning said (via the Indy Star), "That's something I haven't thought a whole lot about."

Either way, the next four months in Indianapolis’ front office should be rather interesting.

Colts wrap up the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft

Hey Conquistador,
You are a scumbag. You are going to intentionally take a shot at a guy's neck who just had neck surgery and risk turning him into a quadriplegic, just because he is being competitive and trying to come back and play for his team after a major injury? Wow...you need to go crawl under a rock you piece of $hi*... I'd like to see a defensive end slam you under the chin. Dumbass.

No way Indie doesn't take Luck. The kid can flat out play. I think they would try  to move Manning for what they can or let him play one more season to get his stock up then move him. While Manning is one of the best all time he is getting older and that neck will always be an injury risk. Just business sense.

I know that I am not in the majority, but I don't think Luck is a #1 Draft Pick.
I've watched a lot of Stanford games this year. I think he's good, but not great.
I could be dead wrong, but I think the Colts should stock up on drat picks....Kinda like what the Cowboys did when they traded Hershal Walker.

If Luck is the guy that everyone thinks he is the Colts would be wise to do what the Packers did with Rodgers. Keep Manning have him teach the kid and then hand the reins over to him in a few years, trade Manning to a sucker team like the Jets for a draft pick and watch him decline somewhere else. With the Exception of Cam Newton and maybe Andy Dalton putting a rookie QB in isn't the greatest idea and puts fortha risk of injury on someone who is supposed to hold the teams future in his hands. Let the kid learn from one of the greats.

LOFL No team in their right mind would give a ham sandwich for Josh Freeman, much less a pick. Throwing Freeman in the trade is like selling someone your car on the condition that they screw your fat ugly sister too.

To everyone who wants us to trade the pick: We would be trading the pick to get more draft choices to help the team in the short term. But with Chris Polian calling the shots, do you have any doubt he would screw those picks up, and then where are we? No way we trade the pick, get the sure thing. If Luck works out, we look good. If he doesn't, then you could say any other team who had the first pick would have taken Luck so it's not your fault. But we pass on him and he pans out elsewhere, you look like the Portland Trailblazers.

Colts wrap up the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft

you people are on crack! the luck trade would require too many picks(a la the ditka all picks for ricky dopesmoker), and as much as Luck is coveted i am not sure anyone wants to make that trade. possibly miami or kc are teams that have strong enough defences that they could miss a draft year by trading them away. there are some real good qb's in this years draft tannebaum comes to mind and the kid from Tulsa who attends mannings camps every year and they think is next great qb...end of the day the colts will be fine and look out with that 1,2 combo

by the wat the Lions secondary is a joke and just made Flynn a bunch of dough! remember scott mitchell, matt cassel they go on, he wont become s top qb in another program without that detroit defence to play against!

the colts are dumb if they don't trade #1 pick or trade manning. no way u can keep both, that's too much tied up into a QB position when they need so much more help. even if manning is "healthy," for a 36 yr. old QB with 3 neck surgeries. if manning is in the starting lineup next year and luck on the bench the colts finish no better than 6 wins. if i am a divisional foe, the first thing i tell me DE is put your helmet under mannings chin 1st shot you get. i'll take a 15 yd. penalty just to see if those neck bolts are tightened up. has anyone noticed how weird manning's head and neck are looking lately? he looks like herman munster. good luck with that indy..

I hope Andrew Luck pulls an Eli and tells Indy not to pick him. This is garbage Indy fans should be ashamed of themselves trying to run Manning out of town. Reminds me of Ladyboys fans running Aikman down at the end of this career. Sad, Manning put Indy on the map and got you that nice new stadium.
