Matt Flynn has record-breaking day for Packers

M. Flynn threw for six touchdowns Sunday (US Presswire).

By Josh Katzowitz

Perhaps knowing that he’d make Aaron Rodgers inactive for the day, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he wanted to see backup Matt Flynn perform even better than he did last season against the Patriots. He also said he wanted Flynn to win the game.

Flynn did him better than that. By completing 31 of 44 passes, Flynn threw for a franchise-record 480 yards and a franchise-best six touchdowns to lead Green Bay to the 45-41 victory against the Lions in what was a wild game.

Considering Flynn is a free agent after this season, it seems clear that he might have created a nice little free agent market for himself.

And if Rodgers, for some reason, gets knocked out of a game or can’t play during the playoffs, Flynn has proven that he can win a game against a quality team as well.

wonder how that makes rodgers feel. just put anybody in there, and they gain all those yards, and pack wins. at least now we know that if rodgers gets hurt, the pack should be in good hands. packers have had t so easy, that makes you wonder when they meet  that team in the playoffs, that is a good team and hitting on all cylinders that day. how will they react? how will they react when they get behind. thats why we play the games. to find out.

When the Lions see Brees in N.O. it will be more of the same. They were a great story early in the year, but their D was the problem last year and it is the problem again this year. Not taking anything away from Flynn.

Does Flynn's performance diminish Rodger's legacy

Matt  Flynn did a great job, no doubt, and helped himself financially in the process. But I think what his performance today also shows is that maybe Aaron Rodgers isn't necessarily the god-like QB the everyone makes him out to be. Is Rodgers good? Of course. But when your backup comes in for one game and sets francise records for yards and TD's, I think it shows that Rodgers is the beneficiary of a very good system and great set of receivers and that maybe we should calm the talk of him being the best-ever in the history of the game. Because if your backup can just as good of a job (or maybe even a better job), what makes your performance so singulary unbelievable? Also shows you that the Green Bay system, staff, and offensive team in general are more outstanding than Rodgers is individually. Give the rest of the crew their props. Green Bay is more than just Aaron Rodgers.

Matt Flynn has record-breaking day for Packers

Are you kidding me, this guy will be a big hit for quite a few teams, the Denver Broncos, included.  Matt Flynn being around Aaron Rogers certainly has not hurt. I really like this guy and I could think of a few teams, that would benifit, having him as there there quarterback.

The Packers and to a lesser extent the Eagles are now the QB factories in the NFL. The Eagles tend to rip you off though. We will see if things turn out better for whoever gets Flynn. I really like Flynn and think he will be a very good QB for whoever is smart enough to sign him for next year. He is an instant upgrade to quite a few teams, imo if the Jets had Flynn they'd be in the playoffs right now.

The really bad teams can draft a QB, Flynn however would be a boon for the mediocre teams that just don't pick low enough to have a crack at a top QB prospect, but don't have the production at the QB position to step to the next level either.
