DeSean Jackson had a forgettable season, and for that, he’s sorry. He regrets the way he acted when he so desperately wanted a contract extension, and he’s also sorry that it affected the way he played this season.

“I can admit to certain things affecting me during the season. I just kind of want to apologize or whatever the case may be,” Jackson said, via CSN Philly. “I probably could have handled it a little different, but now sitting here after the season’s over, I can just say I was able to put it behind me and really just fight for my teammates. Fight for this organization -- just really knowing something good out of this situation was going to happen. I was able to finally get to that and just move forward. We’ll see how it plays out.”

Considering Jackson is a free agent and is coming off the worst season since his rookie year in 2008, it’s a good idea for the mea culpa. Because there were times when Jackson appeared like he wasn’t giving his best effort as the Eagles Dream Team season transformed into a frustrating year for everybody in the Philadelphia organization.

Jackson was asked if it’d be OK for the Eagles to place the franchise tag on him, and he said, “Why wouldn’t it? Hey, it’d be all right. God’s got a plan, brother. I’m going to roll with it.”

True, Jackson was underpaid this season at $600,000, but he held out during training camp and got benched in Week 9 as the Eagles were losing to the Cardinals. Basically, he just wasn’t a good teammate.

“I shouldn’t have allowed it to happen early on -- but I was able to finish strong, and that’s all that really matters,” Jackson said. “I did that. I’ve got my head coach, my offensive coordinator, my teammates, the owners, the whole organization behind me, so it’s not how you start. It’s how you finish.”

And, Jackson hopes, how sincerely you apologize.

His WR stats are barely top 20, he only returned 17 punts all year and is ranked 32nd. He is careless, selfish, and NOT a team player as he said so himself. Careless = dropping the ball at the goal line, TWICE! Selfish = holding out! This dude deserves league minimum and base the rest of his contract on performance if he thinks he's so good then he should not have a problem with that arrangement.

He has one responsiblity.. WR. Desean has 3 responsibilities. WR, kick returner, and punt returner. And he makes less than Jennings. It was bullshit for the Eagles to toss 100 million at Vick, and not even make an effort to pay the guy who is your biggest asset... Your biggest weapon. You think the Giants would have made sure he was paid if THEY had him on their team? Mention the game where he burned them for the touchdown on the punt return and see if their response wouldn't be "YES". Defense got their money, and Vick got his money. Where the money for your top WR/KR/PR?

Football is a team sport, unfortunately it seems some of the less mature players in the NFL have forgotten that. Packing up and going home after an 8 and 8 season just might remind some of them. "I just kind of want to apologize or whatever..."

The way Philly spent this year noway they will not pay top 5 money to top 15 talent . Poor team player not even able to match a number two receiver in jjordy Nelson nor many teams will want him will be lucky to get top 10 money .

To hear him (and you) tell it, he is a top 5 WR. Nothing could be farther from the truth. While he is a big play reciever, he does none of the things required to be a top 5 reciever. His size hurts him and so does his reluctance to take a hit to make a catch. His behavior on the field has cost his team many times, unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, lack of effort and not being a team player all factors into the Eagles thinking, I'm sure. I don't blame them persoanlly for not wanting to hand out the deal Jackson has been asking for, quite honestly he isn't worth it. But the bottom line is this, when you act like Jackson did this past year, you end up hurting yourself in the long run. DeSean has done permanent damage to his reputation that was already in question. He will likely never get an opportunity to get that back, nor will he get back the money he cost himself. All that could have been avoided by going out playing hard and earning a contract or the franchise tag which would have paid him more money than he is worth. It was his choice to play the season like he did. An apology after the season is over is as phony a PR move as one could make. BTW, it wasn't much of an apology when you apologize or whatever it is that he did......

Since: Jan 5, 2011	Posted on: January 2, 2012 8:05 pm DeSean Jackson apologizes for actions this year Apparently Jackson's rep coming out of Cal was so bad (selfishness, bad team player) he was left completely off the draft boards of several organizations. He's a talent, but at what point do you lose team chemistry when you have a guy like this in your locker room. I'd be willing to cut him, just to prove a point, and possibly improve my team. (10 mil can address a few positions of need.) They already have a classy star receiver in Maclin, a decent te and maybe the best back in football. How many drive killing taunting penalties or drops can you take before you give this guy what he deserves. There is a reason guys like Parcells and Belichik have well disciplined, winning football teams. They get rid of guys who put themselves first, like getting 15 yard penalties everytime they score (see Stevie Jonhson.) Desean's apology was a perfect example of how mature and sincere this guy really is.

The Eagles shouldn't even tag him...let him go free and draft a wr or take a look what might be out there in free agency.
