DeSean Jackson apologizes for actions this year

Jackson

By Josh Katzowitz

DeSean Jackson had a forgettable season, and for that, he’s sorry. He regrets the way he acted when he so desperately wanted a contract extension, and he’s also sorry that it affected the way he played this season.

“I can admit to certain things affecting me during the season. I just kind of want to apologize or whatever the case may be,” Jackson said, via CSN Philly. “I probably could have handled it a little different, but now sitting here after the season’s over, I can just say I was able to put it behind me and really just fight for my teammates. Fight for this organization -- just really knowing something good out of this situation was going to happen. I was able to finally get to that and just move forward. We’ll see how it plays out.”

DeSean's forgettable season
Considering Jackson is a free agent and is coming off the worst season since his rookie year in 2008, it’s a good idea for the mea culpa. Because there were times when Jackson appeared like he wasn’t giving his best effort as the Eagles Dream Team season transformed into a frustrating year for everybody in the Philadelphia organization.

Jackson was asked if it’d be OK for the Eagles to place the franchise tag on him, and he said, “Why wouldn’t it? Hey, it’d be all right. God’s got a plan, brother. I’m going to roll with it.”

True, Jackson was underpaid this season at $600,000, but he held out during training camp and got benched in Week 9 as the Eagles were losing to the Cardinals. Basically, he just wasn’t a good teammate.

“I shouldn’t have allowed it to happen early on -- but I was able to finish strong, and that’s all that really matters,” Jackson said. “I did that. I’ve got my head coach, my offensive coordinator, my teammates, the owners, the whole organization behind me, so it’s not how you start. It’s how you finish.”

And, Jackson hopes, how sincerely you apologize.

The Eagles do not look clean at all in the situation with Desean Jackson.  They are every bit as culpable in this situation as Jackson is.  The biggest problem Jackson had was that he reported to the team, but did not give it his all.  If he was not going to go all out for his teammates (notice I did not say the organization) then he should have never reported and held out.  However, he believed the team when they told him to report and they would work on a new deal with him.

You say that Desean Jackson is a top five receiver in the league.  I have to disagree with you on that.  He is an extremely exciting player that makes things happen on special teams and in th epassing game, but he is not a top five receiver.  I would rate Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Greg Jennings, Mike Wallace, Wes Welker, Andre Johnson and Vincent Jackson above him.  As a matter of fact, I would rate his teammate jeremy maclin above him.

you guys are crazy!

For those of you dissing Desean Jackson you guys should really see the other side of this.  I happen to know Desean personally as he is local to right here in Long Beach Ca.  The Eagles refused to extend one of the best players on their team who is still under his rookie contract of $600k.  They PAID Steve Smith, an inferior receiver.  The Eagles are a trash organization with a long history for being tight fisted towards star players.  Desean is arguably one of the top 5 receivers in the league and they should have taken care of him.

Desean definitely could have handled the situation better and the apology is half hearted at best but you guys will never understand the business side of professional sports.  All you see is "big deal...he made $600k...I would be crazy, stupid happy about that".  That is like being among the better employees at your job and watching every one else get a promotion except you.  The Eagles slapped Desean in the face and he responded in a manner that makes him the bad guy while the Eagles look clean.  Eagles and Bears organizations need to be ashamed of themselves.

He'll take the franchise tag because it's the best he's gonna get.  In a free agent year, he was a self centered diva and a team cancer.  And oh yeah, while he has the ability to be explosive, he takes plays off and has the worst case of alligator arms in the history of the NFL.

Yeah he was a jerkoff this year but he is still a kid whos in the position to make millions. I bet if it were one of us things would be different. You don't now how certain thing affect certain people. Obviously he was afffected by the money and pretty much admitted it here. While im not saying ut's all good just like that because he let a lot of fans, teammates and FF owners ( lol ) down this year. the eagles will tag the kid and move on. I bet he comes back strong. They really want to keep this core intact and right now Jackson, Macklin, Mccoy, Celek, is a really good young core on offense. The eagles will make this happen. Im sure his contract will have stips that pretty much say he has to be a team player blah blah blah...

This will be a hungry team next year. Now pick up spags AR!! get a real D coordinator in there that will keep our toop corner in man coverage instead of zone.
