Bill O'Brien apparently is not a Penn State candidate (US Presswire).

By Josh Katzowitz

During the past few days, reports have emerged that Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien was a prime candidate to become the next head coach at Penn State.

USA Today even wrote that only the final details of the contract needed to be completed before Penn State could announce O’Brien as their guy. Apparently, though, O’Brien will not be heading to Happy Valley.

CBS’ Charley Casserly is reporting that O’Brien won’t be the next Penn State coach. Casserly also writes that 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman was interviewed and that Penn State will take another crack at Boise State’s Chris Peterson.

According to the Boston Herald, O’Brien wouldn’t take another job without seeing what the NFL has to offer. For now, it sounds like O’Brien will sit back and wait to see what occurs.

“Any imminent contract signing or agreement (with Penn State) is just off-base,” O’Brien’s agent, Joe Linta told the Herald. “The most important thing for him is to win the Super Bowl. But if someone is going to be interested in him in the NFL, it’s going to happen this week. He could be going somewhere else, he could be returning to the Patriots. But we’ll wait and find out if someone is interested in him and seeks permission to talk with him.”

As I've said before, here is another bit of "news" surrounded by filler material.  Wake me up when the real choice is made and axccepted by someone.

First, cutty is a dope and knows very little about anything regarding PSU.
Second, another name by the media that happened to be false. Funny how that ahs happened again. It is comical how the media is being played in this search. From the local PA to the National media they are looking like fools by announcing all these names reportedly contacted by Penn State.
Bruce Feldman has been the only honest one when asked about who will be the next Penn State head coach. His response, "I dont know." Adding that only one or two people are close enough to the search to really know. That IS the truth!

It would be tough for any coach to take the PSU job even before the Sandusky scandal.  However, I think PSU would have quickly named Bradley and moved forward.  There would have still been a huge Paterno shadow.

PSU has not announced any candidates and I wonder where the media is getting its "sources."  I imagine PSU wants to do due diligence to show that no current staff members, other than McQueery, knew anything of the tragic behavior of Sandusky.  We all know that many people will not believe that answer but we also must base our judgments on provable facts.

The only thing I disagree with in the handling of the coaching search is the continued effort to portray Paterno as a victim and to publicly talk of his health when it was seemingly forbidden while he was coach.  Paterno like Bowden got caught up in the numbers.  Had Paterno stepped down several years ago, it may not have prevented Sandusky's behavior but I believe we would look at the situation in a different light.

Remember when Holtz resigned at Notre Dame.  He was about 1 win away from the ND record.  I have always heard speculation but never heard him say why he did that.  Maybe he just knew it was time.

Paterno should have been able to go out on a one year farewell tour.  His stubborness and this incident prevented that from happening.  The disappointment is huge because Paterno was an icon that supposedly ran everything at PSU, at least with regard to football.  If Sandusky was using the football facilities after being banned by administrators (former PSU ball boys) and Paterno had no knowledge, was Paterno meerly a figurehead?

I hope PSU and the victims can somehow move beyond this situation.  This really boils down to the unmentionable behavior of one man, Sandusky.  This one man ruined the lives of some and ended the careers of others.  Loyalty works both ways.  If someone is loyal to you, your behavior must also demonstrate you deserve that loyalty.  Sandusky was a failure in the latter.

Hey Dude, Where did you get your law degree? If Paterno knew, he would have been charged. Read the Grand Jury report or better yet research the 3 different accounts from McQuery as to what he witnessed and what he told Paterno. I know that's asking alot. Okay,,,,just get somebody that can read to explain it to you.

The media has been a disgrace in this whole sorted affair. Anybody that says they know what Joe Pa knew is a clueless, yet wants to "matter". McQuery has now given three different statements as to what he saw 9 years ago! He even testified before the G/J that he didn't speak in graphic terms with Paterno. In 2002 Sandusky was an X-EMPLOYEE! Hire Tom Bradley for God sake and stop this "take all PSU fans and alum on a guilt trip"..... We are a society awash in poltical correctness. If Sandusky did this,,,hang him! Yet, this throw everybody overboard nonsense and be ashamed of PSU is total bulls==t!

You are making my point.   Josh McDaniels blows...all offensive coordinators are made by Tom Brady.   He's the best QB around....even the worst OC can succeed with him.   THe Pats haven't missed a beat since losing Charlie Weiss.....O'Brien is no different....see ya later and quit acting like you're somebody with special skills.    Also, if you call me a turd again I'll be forced to f#$k your wife....watch it.

you gotta be kidding me right? obrien is the most unsurprising playcaller the patriots have had under belichick.  he doesnt call anything out of the ordinary, and he doesnt know how to control the clock. quick example, last week against the dolphins, the pats need one first down to completely end the game and you know what the play call was? a PITCH to the ROOKIE ridley.  how does that sound like a good idea? a pitch play has so much room for error its unreal to call it under two minutes when the lead is only 3. he may be a good qb coach, but he aint no playcaller
