With everything that happened with the Jets over the past 24 hours -- missing the playoffs, fighting with the media, in-fighting and whatnot -- you wouldn't be surprised if Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum decided to blow some stuff up. But they won't.

Ryan and Tannebaum confirmed on Monday during a press conference that Santonio Holmes, the player primarily deemed responsible for locker-room issues, would return, and that much-maligned offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer would be back, barring another team (like Jacksonville) hiring him as their head coach.

Black Monday

"I believe Santonio will be back next year," Ryan said.

The pair were pelted with questions about Holmes and team chemistry and Ryan said they would do away with team captains altogether.

"I made a huge mistake," Ryan said. "Not just by naming Santonio a captain. With all the captains. It's not something I truly believe in."

When the Jets announced the press conference for Monday, speculation started to ramp up that the Jets could do away with Holmes altogether. However, as Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network reported, Holmes is guaranteed more than $7 million in 2012 (with another $7 million of future salary becoming fully guaranteed on the second day of the 2012 league year).

Which is to say, the Jets can't really even consider releasing Holmes. They've simply got to find a way to get him to be better in the locker room. (Tannenbaum wouldn't comment on whether Santonio was disciplined for his behavior the last week.)

As for other issues, Tannenbaum said that Mark Sanchez will remain the starting quarterback in 2012. And Rex indicated there wouldn't be any changes on the coaching staff as of right now.

Oh and Rex's excuse for crying to his team in the locker room on Monday?

"Ah, Im Irish."

The J - E - T - S, Jet, Jets, Jets, are a Joke, Joke, Joke.  Of course they will keep a malcontent like Holmes, not just because of the money due, but his personality fits in with Ryan......they are both windbags.

The Jets have no locker room leader on the roster, and clearly Rex cannot handle the motely crew or does not see them as a problem as they are built in his image.

I love watching the Jets fail, there is nothing more entertaining then Rex and predictioins of a Super Bowl collapsing every year.  I have to say that another guarantee will not be as entertaining next year as the luster is wearing off, it is becoming too predictable that Rex will promise and the team will fail to deliver.

Let's see who the first player on the Jets roster is to be arrested during the off season, maybe set an over/under line for when someone will be in the news for breaking the law.  It may not even take until the official off season, I could see Holmes going to the Super Bowl (as a spectator of course) and getting into a fight at a club following the game....certainly someone will say something to him (of course it wil be about something true, like his quitting on the team during a game) and he will take exception to it.  Maybe even brandish a firearm, and if lucky he will have better aim than Plaxico and not shoot himself in the leg.

Happy New Year!

Hmmm...offensive coordinator back, Holmes back, coaches all coming back, Paco still the number 1 qb---i love it all.  can only mean that next year will be even more funny than this year especially when they will go out of their way to keep Holmes happy. this is almost too good to be true--having a dysfunctional team like this led by a fat pig that cant keep his big mouth shut except when there is food in it.  Dear NY Jets Owner--please dont change a thing.  the real reason coach big-pig was crying is because he wont be able to see all those athletic feet walking around the locker room til next year.  J-E-T-S, jets, jets jets. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Is that Santonio Holmes? Or is it the UPS guy picking up a box of pre-printed "AFC Wild Card" t-shirts to ship back to the warehouse? The PR woman is not bad...like the librarian thing I guess.

We really see a lot of sideline disputes these days, and teams love to play it off like nothing happened.  Remember the Brady vs Offensive Coordinator? That OC really should have been canned, or at least suspended/fined by the team.  I dislike Brady as much as the next guy, but he's earned the right to say what he wants on the sidelines to a scrub WR for running a bad route or not giving full effort.  A scrub coordinator should not be going crazy on their star qb like that.

As far as the Jets, Holmes is their best offensive player.  Greene stinks, Tomlinson is ready to retire, Sanchez blows, Burress is okay.  If he's not getting looks from Sanchez, something is wrong.  Holmes left the Steelers on "bad" terms because of the marijuana in his car or whatever, but that was more with the ownership trying to make a statement.  The fans didn't want him to go, and his teammates didn't want him to go.  Maybe he shouldn't have acted the way he did, but he has a point.  They are a playoff caliber team that is not making the playoffs because of poor QB play and coaching.

HEY MONSWEETIE, I SEE AT 9:34 YOU CHANGED YOUR PROFILE.AND THAT CHANGE WAS GOING FROM A JET FAM TO A STEELERS FAN
Hey Bwiaaana8balls, I've always been a Steeler fan you dumb SOB. All I did was add the Nets to my profile. Whaa-Whaa, I'm Bwiannacokedout8ballsintheface. Stop crying about your loser team with the two Steeler rejects at WR. We got a 5th round pick out of the JETS for that bum San Antonio. Looks like we made out on the deal. It'll be great watching Wrecks try and manage that mess next season. No more team captains, what a dope.
