This isn't a huge shock, but the Eagles are bringing back Andy Reid, the NFL's longest-tenured coach, for at least one more season.

Jeffrey Lurie, Eagles owner, announced as much (in a lengthy fashion!) during a press conference Tuesday.

"I want to see our team coached by Andy Reid next year and I can't wait," Lurie said. "If our goal is to win title, Andy Reid is our guy."

Lurie also added that any coaching changes are "up to Andy" -- the most obvious decision everyone's wondering about is the possibility of changing defensive coordinators. Juan Castillo was, arguably, more embattled in 2011 than any head coach in the NFL and it won't sit well with the locals if he remains the defensive coordinator, particularly with ex-Eagles coach Steve Spagnuolo now on the free-agent market.

Of course, the Eagles defense was substantially better down the stretch in 2011, but don't think Lurie didn't notice the schedule they had.

In his press conference, Lurie pointed to the Eagles strong close to the season and said that to hold onto a four-game winning streak against teams that didn't make the playoffs would be "fool's gold."

"I think there was a miscalculation of implementing scheme changes in a post-lockout season," Lurie said when pressed about Castillo's status. "Anyone who's known Juan Castillo knows he's an incredibly impressive man. Was he put into a tough situation early? Tough to say."

But Lurie added that the decision to keep or not keep Castillo was completely up to Reid. The only difference, based on Lurie's comments Tuesday, is that Reid would be wise to get his team motivated to play before December this season, otherwise 2011 won't go down as the "most disappointing" season of his career.

Next year will.

So we're bound to see more bad defensive drafting. Darn doesn't Lurie have the balls to fire Reid? A coach that would be better suited as Chargers coach...not exactly "an eagle who can fly" cuz he's too fat.

I'm not sure Cowher was with the Steelers without winning the SB quite as long as Reid's been here,
After 13 years Cowher had an overall record of 130-77-1, Reid is 126-81-1.  Not a huge difference.
After 13 years Cowher won 8 divisional titles, Andy Reid has won 6.
After 13 years Cowher went to 5 AFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. His record was 1-4 in Championship games and 0-1 in SB. Reid went to 5 NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl, he has the same record as Cowher.

Cowher won his only SB in his 14th year, I doubt Andy is going to match that though. After nnext year you should see a coaching change. If not, then someone needs to convince Lurie to sell the team to someone who wants to win a championship.

It's not Reid. Under Andy's watch the Eagles haven't had a QB capable of leading a team to a title. Vick is a coach killer...period. The Eagles have morphed into the old Falcons, and are football's answer to streetball in Rucker Park. The loss of Jim Johnson did more damage than the average fan knows. Next season will mirror this season. Vick will end up costing Reid his job.

i hope lurie goes bankrupt and loses everything he has for doing this. we all knew this fat pig wasstaying but just hearing it still gets me mad. when are the fans gonna get treated right?? we pay to keep this team alive. we are the ones making them the money and to keep a guy who consistantly does hte same things wrong year in and year out is dusgusting. ive said it before and ill say it again, i wont be spending money or attention on a team that doesnt make moves to win. once andy is gone then we know lurie is in this to win...

F U LURIE AND REID!!! reid must be rubbin ones out for lurie to be keeping this job for so long....im sure he will keep castillo too, which would be just as big a travesty...............

As a Cowboys fan, I too was hoping for a coaching change in Philly....LOL!!!!  Now I can look forward to Jason Garrett and Tony Romo being made bafoons 2 more times by the Eagles....DRAT!

Must be refreshing to have an owner that gives the keys to the train to the coach...oh yeah, and who can hire a decent coach to boot....

Eagles bring back Reid, coaching changes his call

How can anyone start off a press conference saying its the worst year he's ever seen and not fire the reason?!  Reid drafted players who cannot play, hired an O-line coach knowing its a short training camp, took quality players and put them in wrong positions, etc.  This year the mighty Eagles beat 1 team with a winning record.  Since the Birds went to the Superbowl they barely have a 500 record.  Maybe next year .  .  .

As a Cowboy fan, this is disappointing.  I was hoping that Reid would be fired so they could offer the job to Jason Garrett, who could then bring along the overhyped Rob Ryan to be his defensive coordinator.  What a late Christmas present that would have been.......
