By Josh KatzowitzWhile the NFL is investigating the “Bart Scott just flipped everybody the bird (!)” incident in the Jets locker room from earlier this week, the franchise has already punished the New York linebacker by announcing that the team has fined him $10,000.
Here's the team statement on the matter: "Bart Scott was fined $10,000 by the team for his obscene gesture to a member of the media. Bart's actions were inappropriate and unacceptable."
That might not be the only money taken from Scott’s bank account.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league is investigating the incident, which occurred during a contentious post-season locker room session* in which a few players refused to talk to reporters.
*Scott was simply more visual about his lack of desire to participate in interviews.
Rex Ryan said the incident would “definitely be addressed,” and now it appears that it has. Unless the Jets also decide against bringing back Scott next season, and considering how much his play fell off this year, that’s a real possibility.
UPDATED (1:25 p.m. ET): According to the NY Daily News, the NFL will NOT discipline Scott, calling it a club matter.
