Former Jets defensive lineman Kris Jenkins has transitioned nicely from the playing field to the analyst's chair. He's made occasional appearances on CBS's The NFL Today, and he had a thoughtful piece in the New York Times in November documenting his life in professional football.

On Thursday, Jenkins spared us the nuance when he took to Mike Lupica's radio show to talk about the unintentional comedy stylings of the New York Jets and Mark Sanchez (transcript via PFT.com).

“The No. 1 quarterback should have said that a long time ago,” Jenkins said, referring to backup Greg McElroy's recent public comments about the sorry state of the Jets locker room. “It would have been all part of the process of him growing a pair and standing up and being a man. But the thing is, he lost his because he got caught up in the wash that is New York, the spotlight, taking pictures in the magazines and doing all that stuff. That’s just what everybody has seen with Mark Sanchez, they got tired of it.”

Aaron Rodgers agrees with the part about fancy clothes and magazine shoots. "I mean look at this -- that's embarrassing," Rodgers said in September of Sanchez's designer wife beater and skinny jeans ensemble. "Page 94 of the GQ thing here, that's terrible."

Also embarrassing and terrible? Sanchez's 2011 season, his third in the NFL, though it wasn't completely his fault. The lack of a running game coupled with an inconsistent defense and the worst team captain in organized sports conspired to wreck the Jets' season and any progress Sanchez might've made.

Jenkins played with Sanchez for parts of the 2009 and 2010 season and admitted that he was impressed by the former USC quarterback's potential. But like intentions and the road to hell, the NFL scrap heap is littered with players with tons of potential who don't do much with it. Right now, that's Sanchez.

“Mark wants to be a leader but there’s a difference between wanting it and taking it,” Jenkins said. “He’s always trying to be a crowd pleaser. He’s always trying to be nice. He wants to be a leader but he won’t take it.”

According to head coach Rex Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum, Sanchez is the Jets' starter heading into 2012. Maybe it's a case of blind loyalty offsetting what seems to be obvious to most folks: despite Sanchez's draft status, he's not a franchise quarterback. And it's not clear he ever will be, especially if Santonio Holmes is on the roster next season.

Former Jet Kris Jenkins calls out Mark Sanchez

I just noticed this post by brian8ball.

His comment - "If you were a true Jet fan you would not disrespect the team."

Is this a joke?  Brian8Ball attacks other fans on these forums with venom, as he did here.  What a clown.

Anyway - going back to the subject matter.  The Jets are on the down so deal with it.  The Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins are on the upswing.

What is up with crazy Jet fans like Brian?  Is there a water problem in NY but only for Jet fans (Giant fans are cool and decent - even though they beat the Pats - Grrrrrrrrrr)

The Jets do deserve some ire for the boasting, but I think even Ryan would admit that and take his lumps.

Tubby Ryan is taking his lumps right now. However, do you think he will change next year???  My prediction is he will return next year with the same preseason poclamation of a championship season. The problem is the jets divisional competition Miami and Buffalo are getting better and most do not see the jets improving next year. Also, the players quit on Tubby as they appeared to be depleted by the same old act. I am no fan of this large, self serving baloon.

yep the guy who attacked my school is obviously dense,  as I am also a Jets fan

but some of the few Jet fans that have class,  have to deal with the ones that make us all look bad.

i still feel like there are more Jet hates then necessary, since the Jets really don't have much a winning tradition.

we jet fans are a long suffering bunch, I mean Ken O'Brien over Marino,  Toon over Rice,  Blair Thomas over Emmitt Smith

we have suffered a ton over the years.  let us be  LOL.

for the Jets fans with class,  keep your head up.  Johnny Hector, Wesley Walker, Marty Lyons,  and Mickey Shuler are with you in spirit.
Giants the roaad team in their own stadium???? Road Victories?????? Same old nonsense!!!!!!!!

The guy that attacked and trolled you and your school must be a sad little creature with no life or hope that sits in a dark dank basement behind his computer like  some sort of cyber ghoul. This guy most likely was beat up regularly by the football players on the varsity football team. It appears that this creature now spends his life trying to exact revenge on football fans on these boards. This must be the answer as no one in their right mind would cling to same ridiculous rhetoric about how the Jets are more successful than the Packers, Pats and Giants becuse they have won 4 road playoff games the last 2 years??

Unfortunately the jets have drawn the ire of the sports media and other football fans around the country as a result of the grandiose preseason boastings of one overweight coach. My personal opinion, if the Jets win the superbowl with a coach that acts professionally, more power to them, they deserved it. However, when the heavy coach claims that your team is the champion, and then insults other teams and fans with the weekly,  who's the man we'll kick your a** speech, and then fall down, this is what you get. Moreover, when you have a guy spewing venom, personal attacks and nonsense at countless people on the boards who do not agree that the Jets are a total success, then this guy is getting what he deserves, which translates into the HATE of the Jets that you see.

Don't forget Klecko and Chrebet. Its just amazing that the "guy" in question has not been banned by now!!!!! I really hope that the CBS admins look into his posts and behavior.

As a Met fan, I know all about disapointment and ridicule. However, I am not in denial, and would not claim that despite the teams  issues and lack of success, my team is much better than the Cardinals, Phillies and Yankees because my team won a playoff game on the road in the past!!!! That would be simply ludicrous and embarrasing. Just like my Mets, why would anyone in their right mind be jealous of the Jets???

Now this "guy" is attacking other jet fans. Is this not unlike the fighting in the press that is going on between the Jet players and coach that is fostering laughter and ridicule from other fans???

I wonder if Jenkins blew out his knee giving that interview.
