Romeo Crennel did nice work as the interim coach for the Chiefs in 2011, going 2-1 over the three games he coached, including a shocking upset of the (at the time) undefeated Packers, a near win against the Raiders in overtime and a victory over the eventual division-champion Broncos in Week 17.

Latest Coaching Rumors, News

And now he's reportedly been given the full-time nod as head coach of the Chiefs, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Saturday morning that the Chiefs are "planning to retain Romeo Crennel and remove interim tag from his title."

The Chiefs recently interviewed ex-Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio, but it's not hard to see how they zeroed in on locking down Crennel. Jeff Fisher is going to either Miami or St. Louis (and has said as much), Josh McDaniels is already in New England, Kirk Ferentz is staying at Iowa and that leaves Crennel as an obvious choice to keep running the Chiefs.

Additionally, his defense over the final eight weeks of the season was incredibly impressive. The Chiefs allowed just two opponents -- the Patriots and then the Jets, the latter being the game that got Todd Haley fired -- to score more than 20 points in that stretch, and Crennel's gameplans against high-powered offenses, particularly while handicapped by the Tyler Palko era, was quite impressive.

He's a locker room favorite in Kansas City, and if he can bring in a capable offensive coordinator and avoid the injuries that plagued Kansas City in 2010, there's a reasonable chance that the Chiefs could return to the top of the AFC West next season.

Report: Romeo Crennel will be next Chiefs coach

He needs to bring in a great OC to handle the offense and play calling while he focuses on the defensive side of the ball.
Like many have said if he learned from his mistakes in Cleveland, hires a great staff than he will be successful.

Report: Romeo Crennel will be next Chiefs coach

If Romeo learned from his Cleveland stint he will be a good coach. He made some pretty simple , very correctable mistakes with the Browns. He also needs to develop the killer instint needed, he plays too conservative at times. KC has a solid defense but really needs to come up with a pass rush to compete effectively, this is not his strong suit. His defenses has never been know for their rush, not even when he was with the Pats. The offense needs to step up big time. Getting Charles back will be a major step. Getting Bowe to play consistantly and Baldwin to mature will be very important. Cassel is NOT the answer at QB. KC needs to pursue Green Bay's QB coach for their OC and bring in Matt Flynn at QB as a package deal. That would almost immediately give the offense respectability.

Report: Romeo Crennel will be next Chiefs coach

Chances are Crennel will lead the Chiefs to multiple playoff berths whereas Weis will still struggle as a coach...at Kansas State
he's NOT at Kansas State, he's the coach of Kansas, Kansas Jayhawks. i agree with what you said about Belichick and Cleveland, but let's wait and see on Crennel, i think he will be a good one if his offense is ok.
and its very likely he will struggle at Kansas because they have no football pedigree whatsoever.  Thats not a knock on him.  The offense was great last year for the Chiefs, this year terrible.  The big components missing...Charles and Weis
yeah and one of those components should be back in Charles. as for Kansas, they did get two QBs, one of them will be there next year, the other will be there in 2013, but i dont see much success, but maybe Crist will finally play to his potential with Weis and maybe Jake Heaps will play to his potential with Weis.

Weis is coaching the UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS! You should get bained for your stupidity because clearly you do not know enough about sports to be allowed to comment, although CBS might bring you on as a sports writer.

Report: Romeo Crennel will be next Chiefs coach

I'm sure KLM that you are either young or immature mentally. So I will make this simple for you. If a 110 yard race is being run and (lets say the majority of the purple guys start at the 10 yard line) and all of the orange guys except for maybe one or two start at the 10 is that equal? Now over time the orange guys get to start at the 5 yard line is that equal? Finally, someone steps in and says that is not equal and either the orange guy gets to start at the 10, or the purple guys have to be moved back to the line with the orange, only then is it maybe equal, because all the time those purple guys have been comming up with ways to position them ahead of other purple guys and the orange guys have been fighting to just to get to the ten. Naturally, the purple guys would be upset because they had an inherent advantage all along. Just some food for thought.

Report: Romeo Crennel will be next Chiefs coach

I'm just wondering, do the Chiefs have to satisfy some stupid NFL policy by interviewing some caucasian coaching candidate before they can hire Crennel?  I love how everyone in this country wants to be treated equal, but they don't have a clue what equal really means.

Even though I think Crennel is a good hire for the Chiefs, I think it's an organizations right to hire anyone they want to, who gives a F what their race.  The truth is, you won't hear any comments from Tony "the racist" Dungy about the Chiefs hiring Crennel, but I guarantee you will definitely hear some stupid racist comments from him before the last coaching position is filled.  The fact is he already came out and said the Robert Griffin III should be picked before Andrew Luck and for no other reason then because the color of his skin.  Tony Dungy was a great athlete and a pretty good defensive coordinator, but somewhere along the way to becoming a head coach he started fighting for equality by being a complete racist, but because he's black no one calls him on it and he gets away with saying things that aren't equal to anyone.

Report: Romeo Crennel will be next Chiefs coach

the success of Romeon Crennel as head coach of the Chiefs will be determined on how he improves the offense. First thing he needs to do is figure out if Cassell is the answer at Qb or do they try and resign Orton.
