IrsayBy Josh Katzowitz

With Colts owner Jim Irsay currently looking for a general manager to replace Chris Polian, who was fired along with his father Bill last week, he won’t have to ask anybody he interviews how they’d handle the 2012 No. 1 draft pick. That’s because he already knows what he wants, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

As has long been suspected, the Colts reportedly will choose Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck in April, and no matter who’s brought in to take over for the Polian’s, that decision will not be altered.

Some wondered if the reason Bill Polian was fired in the first place was because he and Peyton Manning weren’t getting along -- Irsay is an unabashed fan of his quarterback and thinks of him as family. Polian said the rumors of a rift were untrue.

"He was the first person into the office after it happened," Polian told the Associated Press on Wednesdasy. "There's no rift at all. None.

Now, though, the big questions continue to be what the Colts actually will do about Manning, who’s due a $28 million bonus in March. Would Manning want to play with Luck? Will Manning's neck be healthy? Would the Colts ship Manning somewhere else to give Luck the chance to play immediately?

Now that we seemingly know who the Colts will take with the No. 1 pick, we might have to wait a few more months before the rest of those other questions can be answered.

Why would he do anything else? If they're going to take Luck, no one can stop them. If they're not, then they want someone trading into their spot to get him and pay a King's ransom. He's just maneuvering, he's playing his hand.

Report: Colts will take Andrew Luck with top pick

The Colts with Manning is a playoff team. Without Manning well we saw what happened this season.

With Manning two seasons ago they won about 10 games.

Luck is the future of the Colts. Holding the clip board behind Manning would be immeasurable experience for him. He might not thing so now, but in the long run he as well as the franchise benefit.

I am sure Manning would be of great assistance to a young quarterback and not take the stance Favre took, with the statement I am not here to make Rogers a better quarterback.

I think Manning is a better team player than that. If not just being in the same room going over strategy, plays and how to play certain players and defenses would make Luck a better quarterback.

“ONE MAN’S OPINION”

Report: Colts will take Andrew Luck with top pick

Maybe I'm being overly paranoid or looking to much into this, but if the owner is coming out and saying this for the record...how many owners really do that?  How many owners say hell or highwater we're doing (blank).  this is the wrong approach for the Colts owner on several fronts...can you say Al Davis or Jerry Jones the Owners/GMs of their teams and how well do their teams do?  Exactly not well...as in they fall apart eventually and you can calculate it like the tides and if the Colts go this route with an owner/GM they will yet be another team who unravels, chokes, and frustrates fans to no end leaving the owner clueless because he won't know why.  I say this because we've seen it before.  Plus what kind of GM would say ok I'll let the owner call the shots and jsut come in and let him do it especially when strategically I could fill all or most the wholes with doing something else with this pick other then drafting luck.  I feel for Luck if the Colts do this...they will see that Luck won't live up to the hype.  Simply because he won't ever seem to have the other pieces around him.  Maybe he won't have a receiver, a running back, or two or three pieces of defense to keep the otehr team down...that all could be got possibly by trading such a valuable pick....a QB is a strong piece but sometimes if you're as bad as the Colts were...a QB isn't everything ask Denver who only had Elway for so many years and continually choked late.  Exactly Bad move by the owner..but at least that is one guy in the organization who can make all the bad moves he wants and never really suffer for it cause he can't fire himself.  Desperate Demanding fans, make Desperate Demanding players and owners and the league quality overall gets watered down as a whole even more then it has been....then again maybe I'm just being overly paranoid.

Oh god I hope Luck turns out ot be a bust.  Peyton Manning for the past decade or so has been more than enough for this Titans fan to put up with.

In my opinion, I think the Colts will keep both Mannaing and Luck. I think they'll start Manning in 2012 and sit Luck behind him to learn. For every QB that has come in and done well in thgeir rookie season (e.g. Cam Newton) there are also plenty of examples of QBs that have been poor or horrible in their rookie season (e.g. Blaine Gabbert). With his injury I doubt many teas would be willing to give up high picks to dangle as trade bait for Manning.

Are you people all completely foolish?
THINK about what type of injury Manning has had surgery for 3x, it was his SPINE!
Do you think he would risk being paralyzed or having any issue with his extremities by playing again?
All this talk about him going to the Jets or him playing someplace else or even playing again at all, NONE of it makes ANY kind of sense!
IF and that's a big IF, IF he plays again it will be a miracle and a foolish decision.
Life after football is MUCH more important than football itself.
He's had the surgery 3x! WHY do you think that is? It's because it either didn't heal properly or big jarring hits end up reinjuring it so HOW does it make sense to play NFL football again?
I just think it's silly to play the "what if he plays fo rthis team or that team" when the real question should be : "WHY is he even entertaining playing again?"
Sure we'll all miss seeing him on the field and enjoying him playing but isn't his quality of life after football more important?
