Report: Colts will take Andrew Luck with top pick

IrsayBy Josh Katzowitz

With Colts owner Jim Irsay currently looking for a general manager to replace Chris Polian, who was fired along with his father Bill last week, he won’t have to ask anybody he interviews how they’d handle the 2012 No. 1 draft pick. That’s because he already knows what he wants, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

As has long been suspected, the Colts reportedly will choose Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck in April, and no matter who’s brought in to take over for the Polian’s, that decision will not be altered.

Some wondered if the reason Bill Polian was fired in the first place was because he and Peyton Manning weren’t getting along -- Irsay is an unabashed fan of his quarterback and thinks of him as family. Polian said the rumors of a rift were untrue.

"He was the first person into the office after it happened," Polian told the Associated Press on Wednesdasy. "There's no rift at all. None.

Now, though, the big questions continue to be what the Colts actually will do about Manning, who’s due a $28 million bonus in March. Would Manning want to play with Luck? Will Manning's neck be healthy? Would the Colts ship Manning somewhere else to give Luck the chance to play immediately?

Now that we seemingly know who the Colts will take with the No. 1 pick, we might have to wait a few more months before the rest of those other questions can be answered.

stourleyk:
Other once every fifteen year quarterbacks
JaMarcus Russell
Ryan Leaf
If you are going to attempt to refute an assertion about once-every-fifteen-year QB's, at least try to use examples that are close to fifteen years apart.  As it is, you look like a rather dim bulb.

It is not going out on a limb to state that Andrew Luck will not be a bust.  He is the son of an NFL QB, he's intelligent and athletic and he's been tutored in a pro-style program.  There are no quarantees that he will develop into a franchise QB, but the probability of that happening is very high.  The Colts will take Luck - bank on it.  They will, in all probability, be starting Peyton Manning in 2012.

Did someone in his family pick on you as a kid? The AFC is 9-5 in Super Bowls since Manning came into the league. Also there is only one team that Manning hasn't defeated............hmmmmm.....know

who that is?  The Colts!!! You should think before you speak, or at least have some fact to your statements. Elite, class act, winner-----and smart enough to know that playing in a Dome is a bonus.

"all manning does is win baby"
How has he performed in the playoffs?  How has he performed playing outside against teams with winning records outside of his division?

All Brady does is win baby.  All Montana did was win baby.  All Starr did was win baby.  etc.  All Manning has done is beat up on a weak division and pad his stats playing in a dome with weak receivers.  If Manning had been playing for the Browns all those years-- AFC North, cold weather, great defenses, he wouldn't be top 20 all time.  Manning is a great QB who is extremely overrated because nobody ever adds in the x-factors of receivers, quality of opponents, and percentage of games played in domes and in warm weather stadiums.

conquistor - WTF? what planet are you from you too deuce top 5? you kidding me? so rodgers has had a good year, brees a great year, brady a good year ... and manning would have been right there had he not been hurt! top 5? rodgers hasnt earned it yet 1 or 2 good years doesnt make a legend. all manning does is win baby and obviously his worth has been shown by his absence. Luck nor any other college qb are ready to step in.. newton, has had a good year, dalton too and stafford well he is sick . stafford is in year 3 and the other 2 had good years and by no means are nfl ready. gb did it right and so will indy, learn the ropes and be ready in 2 years when peyton becomes the OC. just stop with that luck is ready to step in and win!

Report: Colts will take Andrew Luck with top pick

I'm not sifting through 15 pages of comments to see if (more like where) someone said that this is obvious but somewhat foolish.  Of course the Colts need a quarterback, but the also need about 3/4 of a roster.

Here's a thought: and it might be new (again, I'm not sorting through 15 pages to look) but I think the Colts should fold their franchise and then start a new one.  Rebuild their team through an expansion draft.
