Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

The New York Giants have a lot of confidence right now. That's totally understandable. But making guarantees about beating the defending-champion Packers, in Lambeau, already? That seems silly.

But it's not stopping Jason Pierre-Paul, who guaranteed a Giants win over the Packers on Sunday.

"We’re going to win," Pierre-Paul said, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. "One hundred percent we’re going to win ... because we’re the best."

Wild-Card Weekend Recap

The Giants are quite good. They might be the best team in the playoffs and it's great that JPP is confident. (Interestingly, the only quotes to make it onto the Giants official site are the follow-ups about how sure JPP is.) He should be, given the way the Giants dismantled Atlanta's offense on Sunday afternoon.

But the vibe we get from him is that the Packers aren't as pumped up about a rematch against the Giants. And that's simply not the case. There are plenty of guys on this roster who remember what happened back the last time the Giants won the Super Bowl.

"The team that kept us from our potential Super Bowl in 08 is back on OUR turf now," Jennings tweeted on Sunday. "Trust me,we haven't forgotten. Here. We ... GoPackGo! #BeGreat"

What's interesting to us is the heavy amount of comparisons to the 2007 season. Obviously, there are some similarities. But there are a lot of differences as well. For one, the Packers are better. (And maybe the Giants are better too.)

“We might be a better team than we were in ’07, but I think Green Bay is a better than they were in ’07, too," Tuck said per our Giants Rapid Reporter Alex Raskin.

The more logical comparison, then, is to the last time these teams played. Which, uh, was this year. That game was played in New York, but the Packers still managed to win 38-35.

Which is why, regardless of how confident Pierre-Paul is, he might want to consider scaling back any public declarations about the outcome of the game until victory is actually in hand.

Why can't these players just shut up and let their play on the field do the talking?

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

The world isn't literal.  If you want to continue thinking that this isn't a "guarantee" just because he didn't actually say "guarantee" than you feel free.  The other 99.9% of us who understand context will just move on.  If I said "I am absolutely 100% going to win this contest because I am the best" I have just guaranteed a win.  And I didn't even used the word guarantee.  I know it's tricky for Raiders fans, but if you read it slowly it will come to you.

I like JPP's comments, they show the confidence and respect that he has for his team. I feel like every team should go into their games with the same mentality. Football and any other sport is very physical but much of it is mental. If a team feels like they are going to win and are confident with their team, it might give them the extra edge to play and live up to their expectations. Hopefully he doesn't have to bite his tongue though.

Yeah, but

does it matter......

what matters?

1. is there an AFC team that can now beat either of the two?
2. are the 49ers/Saints already dismissed?

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

Hey Kubbfan - I am certainly not the grammar police, but good Lord man.

And Nova ---- stop using the phrase 'in fact.'  Whenever you use that phrase - you follow it up with something that is opinion.

As for the game:  as a Packer fan I can honestly say I was pulling for Dallas in Week 17 and I was definitely pulling for Atlanta last week.  The reason why is simple - the Giants are good enough to beat the Packers.  That certainly doesn't mean I think it will happen, but the Packers will have their hands full.  It's the Play-offs people...it's not suppose to be easy.  The Packers are going to have to play 3 great games to repeat.  I trust that they will - that offense is sick...and I know it is biased to say, but I feel the Packers defense is going to tighten up some of their leaks and will play with a chip on their shoulder in the play-offs.  They have way too much talent on that side of the ball to not play better than what they have thus far.  If they even play mediocre defense ---- it's lights out for the rest of the league because that offense is sick.
