Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

Ward

By Josh Katzowitz

The fall for Hines Ward this season was precipitous. After all, the four-time Pro Bowler lost his starting job to Antonio Brown in November, and his 46-catch, 381-yard, two-touchdown performance this season was the worst stat line since his rookie season.

But, contrary to what some speculated (his teammates, for instance), the Steelers receiver is not going to step away from the game, announcing on his Facebook page that he’ll return next season.

As CBSSports.com’s Mike Freeman reported Monday morning, Steelers teammates believed Ward might retire. But, Freeman wrote, “that doesn't mean it's set he will. That means some Steelers players believe it which means it's likely to happen. Ward is a different sort of dude. He could decide to hang on for one more year.”

That, Ward wrote, is exactly what he’s going to do:

“I'm also getting lots of questions about retirement so let me set the record straight: I have no plans on retiring right now. I want to win another Superbowl (sic). I don't know where the media is getting this info from but rest assured that when I decide to retire, you'll hear it from ME first.”

Ward, though, probably will have to be content by playing as a backup slot receiver for a Steelers receiving corps that is young and speedy. If, that is, he can make the team at all next year. Which might be a question heading into the 2012 season.

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

I am not a Steelers fan, but I sure would'ved loved to had Hines Ward on my team (KC) during any point of his career because he always played his position to the max, from key blocks, possession catches to deep routes, to always running the correct route. Was he a hard nosed player. You bet. Did he press the borderline of legal/illegal, maybe a few times, but he's paid to do that and to win. He was always the security blanket for his QB's. He'll surely be enshrined in the HOF one day. Great career Hines.

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

I hope Hines doesn't retire. I would rather see him sitting on the Steeler's bench than have to endure his 'expertise' as an NFL commentator. There are already enough windbags on television that were former players.

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

He will change his mind and retire once the steelers tell him they dont have a roster spot for him. He could try to catch on with another team but his days in pittsburgh as the #6 WR are done.

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

Really tomebrady08, that is what you will remember about Hines Ward? That's too bad because every Patriots fan I know would have loved to have Hines Ward on their team during his prime. As for the Steelers already having their tickets booked for family members, they had to have the tickets booked already. There was only one week between AFC Championship game and the Superbowl that year. The Patriots also had booked their tickets/rooms.

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

Look at all the football "experts" commenting about what Ward should do or not do, about his career as a professional football player, his accomplishments, his leadership role with the Steeler organization, his character and the Steelers in general.  All of you need to take a long hard look at yourselves first.  I can understand some team loyalty to your favorite team and maybe not liking Ward because he scored against your team but lets keep it clean people.  Hines Ward isn't one of the thugs in the NFL out shooting people (PacMan), he's not shooting himself (Plaxico), he's not dog-fighting (can't even say his name), being involved in murders (Lewis), selling drugs (too many to list).  He's a class act, top notch with fans, and if this guy wants to give it another run next year, more power to him.  He earned it.  For those that don't think he's HOF material, wake up.  And the cheap shot comments?  Really?  "C'mon Man!"

If the steelers don't want you, come to Denver.

Your blocking skills in the read option, your ability to find space,
and the fact that you always have your head in the game, even when
you aren't geting te ball makes you he perfecr fit.

I'm sure that's a run on sentence but I don't care...

Hines Ward is my all time favorite WR^^

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

As a Steeler fan, I love Hines Ward and everything he has done for the franchise.  But I think he should call it quits.  He's still in good shape and hasn't had any major injuries in his career.  I think he would make a great WR coach in the near future.  He still has his businesses in the Pittsburgh area.  He is a role model for members of the Korean community.  Whether anyone likes it or not, he has the stats to be a HOF'er.  Add his SB MVP, his Super Bowl rings, and the "intangibles" and you have a bona fide HOF player.  I don't think he's a first ballot guy but he has surpassed Stallworth and Swann on the all-time Steeler lists.  He did this without the size or speed that most receivers have.

I hope he gets out now.  The Brett Favre saga shouldn't happen to Hines.  He got his 1000 receptions, take a break and enjoy life man.

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

Damn. I had really hoped it was true that he was retiring. As many have said, Ward is nothing but a cheap shot artist.

Hall of Fame??? Hines Ward???? You must be joking....

C'mon Man!
