Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

Ward

By Josh Katzowitz

The fall for Hines Ward this season was precipitous. After all, the four-time Pro Bowler lost his starting job to Antonio Brown in November, and his 46-catch, 381-yard, two-touchdown performance this season was the worst stat line since his rookie season.

But, contrary to what some speculated (his teammates, for instance), the Steelers receiver is not going to step away from the game, announcing on his Facebook page that he’ll return next season.

As CBSSports.com’s Mike Freeman reported Monday morning, Steelers teammates believed Ward might retire. But, Freeman wrote, “that doesn't mean it's set he will. That means some Steelers players believe it which means it's likely to happen. Ward is a different sort of dude. He could decide to hang on for one more year.”

That, Ward wrote, is exactly what he’s going to do:

“I'm also getting lots of questions about retirement so let me set the record straight: I have no plans on retiring right now. I want to win another Superbowl (sic). I don't know where the media is getting this info from but rest assured that when I decide to retire, you'll hear it from ME first.”

Ward, though, probably will have to be content by playing as a backup slot receiver for a Steelers receiving corps that is young and speedy. If, that is, he can make the team at all next year. Which might be a question heading into the 2012 season.

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

Never liked Hines Ward. One reason is that he looked to blind side block some unsuspecting dude on a run play and always has that s*#t eating grin on his face. He's slowed down tremendously the last couple of years and can only serve as a fourth wide receiver on the Steeler's squad. I can't stand the guy. He's a cheapshot artist and has been overrated his whole career. He's a shadow of his fomer self and should retire. No way he makes the Hall of Fame.

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

Hines wards time as a reciever in this league is definitely coming to an end soon but im actually glad he's coming back. He's one of the faces of the steelers and a truly gifted athlete and leader. As far as HOF goes I think he deserves it because I've seen time after time how much he has contributed to the success of the steelers. He probably won't get in because he doesn't have the stats and its hard for recievers to get in right now anyway. You cant deny however that hines ward is one of the finest football players to play this game. He's passionate hard working and successful sounds like a HOFer to me.

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

Of course they "we" did. That was amazing to see one of the douce golden boy teams get dumped on by Timmy Tebow. I would have done the same thing if it was the Patriots or Indy with Manning. Amazing.

And you acknowledge you had injuries, tell Ben to sit a game or two more. If Pitts lost that game (and they did) then why was Bennie wearing his "we gonna win this game" pimp hat at the end? Ask Deion Sanders about that one if you don't understand.

even an idiot steeler hater could see that we was a hurt team, they talked about it all week on all the sports shows, its not an excuse,we lost,we cant win it every year, but i bet the pats and the ravens celebrated more than the broncos, because they dont have to deal wit the black and gold now,but we will be back, better than ever, good luck to the teams left

Hines Ward says he will NOT retire

Mike Freeman has become an absolute clown on here. What happened? I can't wait to hear his 95% assurance that Fischer is going to the Rams. His last week of work has been awful. How in the world is he allowed to report anymore??

And this is CBS. The home of the AFC. How embarrasing.

3rd? lol i dont know if hes even the 4th... Emanuel Sanders is coming along pretty nice, and if i do recall it seemed to me like Cotchery was actually playing better then Ward and Sanders. Just think the guy is trying to prove he should be in the HOF, sorry hines you were good, but the fact is the HALL OF FAME is for Great players and not one year were you a top 5 WR in the league. Retire so that you dont have the shame of getting cut or even moving to a team and being their 3rd string/4th stringer like Derrick Mason
