Ike Taylor sorry for 'worst game at worst time'

After Denver’s upset win of the Steelers on Sunday was complete, Pittsburgh cornerback Ike Taylor -- who got smoked by Demaryius Thomas on the game-winning 80-yard touchdown pass and had a bad day in general -- didn’t talk to reporters.

Instead, he sat in front of the locker he apparently destroyed and stared at the ground.

"On defense, we felt like we let the team down," Steelers linebacker James Farrior said after the game, via ESPN. "We felt like we had a good grasp of what they were going to do to us or try to do us. They came out and made way more plays that we thought they were capable of making."

Either way, Taylor felt bad about his role in making Tim Tebow and Thomas, who gave a hellacious stiff-arm to Taylor as he ran to the end zone, the heroes of the game. So, he apologized on Twitter today.

“First off congrats too (sic) tebow and the Broncos … Second I apologize for playing the worst game at the wrong time apologize to my teammates steelernation and family. Luv y'all to def.”

Of course, Taylor shouldn’t bear the brunt of the blame. He wasn’t the only man who allowed Tebow to throw for 316 yards and two touchdowns and to allow Thomas to catch 204 yards worth of receptions. Also, as ESPN’s Jamison Hensley notes, “The Steelers put him in a precarious position by putting him on an island against Thomas, because they were more committed to stopping the run than the pass.”

In fact, as Tebow snapped the ball on that final play, all Pittsburgh defenders were within five yards of the line of scrimmage, because safety Ryan Mundy moved up to defend a possible rush attempt. In effect, the Steelers sold out for the run, and when Thomas made his move, Taylor -- who was on the outside of him -- had no help from his safety.

But yeah, Taylor was the face of the inept Steelers defense on that final play as we saw replay after replay of the game-ender. And while he shouldn’t have to apologize, it’s not hard to recognize how badly Taylor must feel about the whole scenario. That must hurt much worse than the stiff-arm.

Ike Taylor sorry for 'worst game at worst time'

Wait a minute, former Steeler JEFF REED whacked a dysfunctional towel dispenser in a restroom and steeler franchise cut him-- now waallace has demolished singlehandedly a locker at the Bronco's guest locker --is he about to be a free agent or steeler franchise just prejudiced against reed? and their QB has roughed up females- oh human carnage the franchise doesn't mind one bit.

Ike Taylor sorry for 'worst game at worst time'

You got to be kiding me Katzowitz. Ike Taylor should absolutely take most of the blame. The guy was out of position most of the game. He knew the gameplan. He knew the plan was to top the run and he still put himself out of position. This guy for years has been awful. He has always been more interested in showboating than playing. He is a clown and should be released so he can end up on the Cowboys. Terrible!!!!! Every big play, from the ESPN overhyped TEBOW, was to Taylor's guy. Yes, he had no help. Even more important to get inside position.

Wow you are really rocking the boat with these folks... Dont know if you are Ravens fan or not but I won't go as far as you in my statement, what I will say is that I hope Steelers fans begin to finally realize that Flacco is a COMPETITOR! And he is tough as Ben and will probably be competing within Baltimore for years to come, barring injury of course.

Don't worry Pittsburgh fans.  You all can sit there next week and watch a real football tean play in Baltimore.  Losing to the worst QB in the league - WOW - that's like 10 times worst then letting Flacco throw a TD pass with seconds remaing.  Tebow had 10 completions, 10 completions, yes, 10 completions the entire game, and he still managed to make the Squeelers look horrible.  Maybe the analysis that the Squeelers were old after the week 1 loss was ACCURATE.  Tell your players to grab the rocking chairs, sit back, and enjoy the fun

He was too weak to fight off the stiff arm or the younger stronger Bronco. Taylor did everything in his power, but he was simply pounded - nothing to be ashamed of - he did his best, but it was not enough.

Ike I don't care what you are saying the faithful say you are the reason for this loss. Nothing else....

Defense secondary hugging the box on every other play and tempting Timmy to go deep... nope

Big Ben gimping around instead of taking an additional week off to heal... nope

An offensive line that has been pieced together with crazy glue since the start of the season.... nope nope

Starting RB out for season... nope

none of these reasons...

Ike, maybe if you were a Jerk all the time.. Or maybe you just don't fit into fold very well anymore.

The Rex and Rob Ryan of the Steeler secondary I'd say. All Talk!!
It was fun to see you get beat on that last play and for most of the day..

A Steeler with class, wow.  I am no fan of Pittsburgh but Ike Taylor handle this very well.  I do not blame him for not wanting to talk after the game, I wouldn't either.  But instead of being a jerk, he apologize for his play and sucked it up.  First he did not need to, he alone did not cost the Steelers the game.  There were 10 other guys on the field. He handle it like a pro and deserves respect.  We all have bad days but most of us do not have them in front of 70,000 people live and many millions more on TV and have it replayed a thousand times.   Being in the defensive backfield is no picnic.  If they breathe in the general area of a receiver they get flagged.  He was man for man coverage with no help.  Name a DB who has never been beat, answer none.

Ike Taylor handle it like a true professional and deserves praise.  Maybe the New York Jets should take notes.
