As you've likely realized by now, Brian Schottenheimer is out as the offensive coordinator of the Jets and reports are that Tony Sparano's on his way in. So the team's in upheaval right now. It won't help matters that some Jets players anonymously and publicly ripped quarterback Mark Sanchez on Wednesday morning.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has the story, and it's a doozy, with Jets players referring to Sanchez as "lazy," a "baby" and someone that can't win in New York.

Nightmare in New York

“We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice,” one player told Mehta. "He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched."

Mehta also writes that the "consensus among players" he spoke to is that the Jets need a change at quarterback, or at least a capable veteran to push Sanchez into better performances.

And the top choice for that veteran position seems to be ... Peyton Manning!

“We already have his coach — Tom Moore," one player, who Mehta calls well-respected, said. "Plus, he’s a field general and will get everyone lined up. He will get his playmakers the ball. We can win a Super Bowl with Peyton."

The issue with Peyton is that it's not as simple as "grabbing him and dumping Sanchez." First, Manning has to get cut/released/put on the trading block by the Colts. Then he has to want to come to the Jets.

Whatever, it could happen, but let's not put the cart before the horse, especially when it requires Manning wanting to play in the same locker room that just firmly shoved its current quarterback (and erstwhile leader) under the bus, calling him a "baby" in the process.

"They don’t want to be truthful with him," one player said about the way the team handled Sanchez. "They treat him like a baby instead of a man. He goes in a hole when someone tells him the truth."

See, looks like a really fun place to play. Come on down Peyton. But really, anonymously shredding the starting quarterback for a team -- besides being, ironically, lazy in its own right -- doesn't usually mean that there only needs to be one change.

UPDATED (7:33 p.m. ET): One of Sanchez's teammates has come to the rescue. That would be center Nick Mangold who tweeted today that Sanchez's accuser should "man up" and put his name with his criticism.

"That's just wrong," said Mangold, when asked today by ESPN about the comment that Sanchez was lazy. "I've never seen anybody work as hard as Mark has. I support him fully and I think the locker room does as well."

Jets fans are talking too much about those 2 AFC games (that they lost).

But the real thing is that Jets is a 8-8 or 9-7 (at max) campaign in fact, nothing more than that. They've got a lot of luck in those 2 seasons, that's the truth. Every fumble the ball stopped under a Jets player, every 3rd and long, a foul to save the drive.

I remember last season a lot of wins in the last minute thanks to a lot of mistakes by their opponents, almost giving the victory to Jets like a birthday gift, they almost lost 2 games in a row for crapy teams, Browns and Lions (they were crap last year, I mean, last decade or more), and I remember last season this kind of thing happened a lot. Everybody was furious with that Lucky Jets.

I'm not stupid to say that was just luck, the team was really good in 2009, strong defense and a big rush game (and the main thing, Sanchez not throwing the ball) , 2010 they get worse, and 2011 again.

This season, the luck didn't show up, and that's the result, a crapy campaign. This is just where the jets can go, winning some games against good teams, losing others to small markets teams and sometimes scoring just multiples of 3.

There's no defense to Sanchez, that guy is an interception machine, that game against the Broncos, he should have got fired right after the game, no team that looks to the post season can accept that. But they are the Jets, the funny Jets. I like them, I hope Sanchez keep as the Jets QB, so next season we all will be able to see him throwing picks again and Rex eating the headphone at the side line and showing his fat finger to everybody.

Jabababa....if they were to get Manning, it would without a doubt take a lot of pressure of thier overratted D. The jets would look a whole lot better with Manning at QB, I think he would give that whole group of idiots the boost they need to play as a team with 1 common goal. He's simply that good. If i had a vote for MVP this year, i would have voted for Manning. I don't think there is a guy in the NFL that means more to thier team them him. With him, the colts are a lock for 11-12 wins. Without him, they're looking at the #1 pick in the draft. I think he would take the jets to that next level. As far as the bills, I agree with you on everything except thier coaching choice. Wilson refuses to pay top dollar for a proven winner as a coach. He won't do it. That, along with many other issues, is why year after year, the bills stomp on the hearts of every western new yorker. It's a different sitcom every year with the same ending. As for brian8ball, don't even bother with him.  His mindless rants are comical at best. I can't believe that a 4 year old spends so much time at a computer....go play in a sandbox little 8ball

Jets players rip 'lazy' Mark Sanchez, want Peyton

this is from a lifelong Jaets fan, and a group of lifelong ,former season ticket holder Jets fans. MARK SANCHEZ IS NOT THE ANSWER. We saw this last year and never more evident than this year. He gets hit and he gets scared. He is looking for the next hit and is running for cover. He throws the ball up for grabs as soon as a pass rusher comes close. HE IS A BABY!!! He gets HAPPY FEET!! We NEED a REAL NFL quarterback. We also NEED for REX to shut the hell up. The fat BAst$%D needs to put up before he can say anything else. After three years of his bad act we need to win. This year was a JOKE.

THIS FROM A MET AND NETS FAN.YOU WOULD KNOW ABOUT LOSING.AND GREAT JOB AGAINST TEBOW ON SUNDAY
Yup, Mets and Nets baby, just not JETS. And no one could have defeated Tebow last week. It was pre-destined that the Denver Tebows were going to win, no matter what. Notice how he threw for 316 yards, on 10 completions for a 31.6 average? Talk about destiny.

Do your research bro. The team along with fat Rex dubbed him Captain. They went to an AFC Championship game last year against Pittsburgh. Went deep in the playoffs the year before and they loved Sanchez. Now all of a sudden he is Lazy and a baby? They werent saying that before..Just sayin. They are just mad because they didnt perform. Beat up O-line, L.T. quits when losing, and Holmes ran bad routes which is why he didnt get the ball alot. He didnt have a problem hitting Burress and Keller. Also there so called GREAT defense were underachevers. The blame should go around. Not just Sanchez. Again the TEAM DID make him a Caption. A coach just doesnt say, HEY, Im making you caption because I can. The coach looks at how he is respected and accepted by the team!

Ahhhhh briancrackhead - where are the Jets and where are the Bills?  Which team is going up and which team is hoping for a miracle?

I have far more doubts about the Jets - they are lothesome and prove it all the time through their head coach, cry baby players, and dumb a** fans - keep chanting J-E-T-S    seems more like a cult or idiocy - take your pick.

As for the Bills they have much more upside than the Jets.  I agree with you (that was hard to say) about this season, but at least they have the talent going forward.  Keep preaching Revis the stopper - getting older by the minute - they are figuring him out.  The Bills need another mediocre year under their belt but they experienced what it's like to win - they will be contenders - the Jets may finish 3 or 4 next year - lol
