Todd Bowles is apparently interviewing in Oakland (US Presswire).By Josh Katzowitz

A day after the Raiders fired Hue Jackson after just one year as head coach, we have our first candidate to potentially replace him.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, that person is Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles.

Bowles, who was Tony Sparano’s assistant head coach and secondary coach, led the Dolphins to a 2-1 record in Sparano’s absence (while putting a scare into the Patriots), but he hasn’t gotten much play as the possible permanent replacement (Jeff Fisher can probably be blamed for that).

The reason for the Dolphins’ apparent disinterest might lie in this quote from general manager Jeff Ireland during the Sparano-is-fired presser: "You're looking for the best candidate out there, a guy who has been in the trenches before. You're looking for some of the same qualities I saw in Tony -- a tireless worker, a guy who understands offense and defense. We'll talk about those things as the weeks go by, and exactly what we're looking for, and iron out a plan that best fits what Mr. (Stephen) Ross is looking for."

Considering Bowles has spent his NFL coaching career as a secondary coach, he probably isn’t the fit for Miami, even with his successful three-game stretch running the team. He’s already interviewed for the job, but even if Fisher accepts the Rams position, the next Dolphins coach probably will be somebody other than Bowles.

Which might turn out to be good news for Oakland.

wow, didn't even see that the first time through... BUT SOMEONE WHO IS PAID TO WRITE SHOULD HAVE MAYBE SPELL CHECKED HIS WORK!!  These reporters get worse every day.  Prepare for a world filled with unsubstantiated, poorly worded, grammatical error riddled tripe.  Just imagine CBSSportsline across all your media coverage.

Report: Raiders will interview Todd Bowles

This would be a dumb hire for the Raiders organization, and I HOPE it's just a move to make sure they can check the box for having looked at minority coaches.  The Raiders are showing all the signs of a team that is trying to break the mold and re-establish the franchise.  New owner with Al's death, new organizational structure (ie - having a GM), and new coach.  This is a monumental step and they need a HC with a solid background in team building, not one with a limited scope of understanding in the realm of coaching.  They will be blowing up personnel undoubtably, so they need someone who has a clear vision for what they want done in all three aspects of play, how and who to position at key subordinate coaching positions and a proven method for achieving player participation.  Someone like Coughlin, Cower, or even Jimmy Johnson. Or they can go woo one of the better HCs from a top college.  At least that candidate wouldn't be learning OTJ.  They do not need another wunderkind HC attempt, or to put their faith in some former player trying to pretend they're HC material (i'm talking to you Singletary and Norm Edwards).  It will be a tough sell landing Cower or one of these top flight team builders, but that is what they really need.

but he can't possibly think he is worthy of a HC gig when he has never served (except on an interim basis) as a coordinator, let alone a HC.

wasnt this the exact same knock on both lane kiffin and tom cable, before they were eventually hired?

They are just interviewing him because they must interview a minority candidate. No offense Bowles, but he can't possibly think he is worthy of a HC gig when he has never served (except on an interim basis) as a coordinator, let alone a HC.

Todd Bowles was a terrific coach on the field as a player with the Washington Redskins, and has all of the intangibles to be a great administrator and leader for a wise football franchise.

GM Reggie McKenzie will fill that organization with Winners from the Redskins heyday, and the Packers present personnel.
