Report: Falcons looking at Schottey, Billick

By Josh Katzowitz

While we speculate about whether former Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer would join his father if Marty Schottenheimer got the Buccaneers head coaching job, another potential job has emerged for the younger Schottey.

According to NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora, Schottenheimer is on the list to be interviewed for Mike Mularkey’s old job as the Falcons offensive coordinator.

Latest Coaching Rumors, News
While Schottenheimer is set to interview for the open University of Alabama offensive coordinator position as well, Atlanta also appears interested in Super Bowl-title winning coach Brian Billick, former Jaguars offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, and Packers quarterback coach Tom Clements.

Assuming Billick wouldn’t want that job (and assuming that if Billick did want the job, the Falcons wouldn’t want to pay the salary Billick would desire), Koetter seems like a decent option. Although the Jaguars offense was a disaster this year when running back Maurice Jones-Drew wasn’t running the ball, Atlanta coach Mike Smith and Koetter worked together in Jacksonville.

Clements, meanwhile, was apparently a candidate for the Penn State job that ultimately went to Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.

Yeah like get 2 coaches that know what they are doing. Mulsucky was garbage. He hasn't been good any place that he has coached. Bringing in a couple of outsides will defianitly help to shed some light on key areas. The guys only een coach there for less then 5 years and he had to clean up after the Vick crap. He also had the task of taking over after the Arkansas(won't mention his name as he doesn't deserve it) coach who bolted for the door with 3 games left. The players, GM and owner all love him so i don't see him going any where any time soon.

It's obvious Coach Smith can't seem to get them further than he has so either Schott or Billick could be a good change but something needs to be done.

Mike Smith is not on the hot seat. He's the best coach the Falcons have had. It took Peyton Manning 4 years before his first playoff win. Falcons just need someone calling plays that knows what they are doing. Defense needs a couple of good secondary guys and we will be right there. This team will turn into more of a throwing team and less of a run Turner first team. But only time will tell

If the Falcons somehow pulled off signing Billick to a coordinator job this would put Mike Smith on the hot seat for the rest of his coaching career with the Falcons unless he wins a Super Bowl.  Billick is only person in this article that has ever one anything in this list, Schottenheimer is garbage and Smith just comes up with short playoff game after playoff game.  Smith should be on the hot seat anyway after that showing last weekend.  With the amount of talent he has he should have gotten to a an NFC Championship at a minimum with Matt Ryan behind center.  If Billick is hired, Smith will be one horrible 4th down decision away from being fired.  The only part that should be interesting news in the piece is that Billick is on the list.
