Jeff Fisher picked the Rams over the Dolphins, CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman has confirmed.

Latest Coaching Rumors, News

Fisher stated last week that he was down to two choices: Miami and St. Louis. One (Miami) featured an owner willing to pay big, big bucks. The other (St. Louis) featured a young, star quarterback in Sam Bradford, potentially more front office control and the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fisher chose the latter and he'll be roaming the sidelines for the Rams in 2012.

"I'm pumped," fullback Britt Miller told The Associated Press. "I figured that because he wanted a little more control that Miami was probably not the place for him. I'm really pumped."

Fisher's been the hottest coaching name this offseason, getting mentioned in rumors involving the Rams, Dolphins, Colts, Buccaneers and even the not-even-vacant position in Chicago, which was supposedly Fisher's dream job.

It's believed that Fisher could bring current Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who worked with Fisher in Tennessee, to join him in St. Louis.

Momentum reportedly swung back to the Dolphins earlier in the week, but here's an interesting tidbit from Yahoo Sports Mike Silver: Fisher was willing to meet Dolphins owner Stephen Ross "halfway" on personnel matters, letting general manager Jeff Ireland still retain plenty of power. However, Ross/Ireland reportedly weren't willing to budge and it may have ultimately cost them a chance to land Fisher.

Reports also indicate that Fisher will choose his own general manager in St. Louis, so the amount of leverage he pulled out of these two teams really can't be overstated.

Jeff Fisher picks Rams over Dolphins

Fisher has a mountain the size of Mt. Everest to climb with the Rams.  Their franchise QB, Sam Bradford,  appears to be too fraglie for the NFL.  And their O-Line is a big part of the reason.  Brandon Gibson, Danny Amendola are both promising kids, but not #1's.  StL has had high picks the past several years and yet still have gaping holes.  Fisher did a great job on the Eagles and Titans.  But this seems like a multi-year plan is going to be needed.  It doesn't help them either that the move back to LA talk is going on.  The ressurection of the 49ers also hurts.  Ditto - the Seahawks have shown improvement too.  So if John Skelton replaces Kevin Kolb for the Cardinals, then that's another big hurdle for the Rams.  Fisher is going to be need a big jar of TUMs.

Jeff Fisher picks Rams over Dolphins

Everything that I have read, has stated that the Rams lease will expire after the 2014 season. And Stan the man can move the team anytime after that.

Very nicely stated, plus LA is going to end up getting the Jags because no one in Jax-ville goes to the games.

RAMDOG14, Stan who is the Rams owner is from Missouri and he played a big role in bring back the NFL to St. Louis. Plus, his mom attends all the Rams home games. He's named after former Cardinals great Stan Musial. Kevin Demoff has even said that they want to build a winning team in St. Louis. Fisher was even rumored to not want the Rams job, because he was worried about the team moving (I'm sure he doesn't want to go through another move .... when 1. His family lives in Nashville (closer to St. Louis that LA is), and 2. He owns a ranch in Montana, also closer to St. Louis than LA is). I have a feeling Stan told him that the team isn't moving also. Stan's even said that he wouldn't have bought the Rams, if he didn't want to keep them in St. Louis. He's even been looking at land around St. Louis to build a new stadium. Get over it, the Rams are in St. Louis to stay. You can thank Georgia for that. It's like breaking up with an ex-girlfriend that you want back, but she wont. Plus, I recall the NFL saying when Stan became owner of the Rams, that they want to keep the NFL in St. Louis. And if, St. Louis was so bad then why do sports players move back to St. Louis after their careers are done? He never played baseball for the Cardinals, but former major leaguer Darryl Stawberry now lives in St. Louis. So, please learn about St. Louis, before saying that it's a bad place when it's not. Yes, there are some bad spots. But, aren't there bad spots in every city? That's part of a city, nothing new. And if, LA does really want the Rams .... you guys would need to pay a big fine to break the lease. According to ESPN 101, Fisher's deal is for 5 years, The current lease won't let them leave until after 2015. And in a few weeks, there will be talk about the Rams future. I have a good feeling that, Stan extends the lease and then works on getting the team winning. And then once the team is winning again, he'll push for a new stadium in or around St. Louis. If I was Stan, I'd build one in East St. Louis, lots of land over there, and it could be a start to help fix up East St. Louis, which is in IL. Even where the Cardinals play was once known as the gettho, but they helped that part of the city out when they buit Busch Stadium 2, back in 1966. And that place of the city is a nice area now.

the way i see it if they dont trade the pick they have 3 options.  1 is Kalil, the o-line is horrible and he is the best.  2 Blackmon, Bradford needs a target to throw to.  3 Richardson, there is no harm in taking another back here and it will keep both guys from being run into the ground, also Richardson in my opinion is the #2 talent and picking the best player possible is a winning strategy.  Kalil should be the guy though since Bradford needs to stay healthy as a big investment and selling point to Fisher.

Jeff Fisher picks Rams over Dolphins

Now I'm not a Miami Dolphins' fan, but since I'm a born Floridian most of my life, I always pull for all of our professional teams in our wonderful, sunshiny state. What I think the Dolphins' should do since Jeff Fisher did to them what he's been done to the Jacksonville Jaguars' during his former tenure as Titans' head coach, is go after the Carolina Panthers' QB coach, Mike Shula, son of NFL Legend, Don Shula. Mike Shula has experience playing QB while at his alma mater, Alabama. Not only that, but he also was head coach for Alabama from 2003-2006. He has a ton of NFL assistant coach experience, and since the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost out on hiring him, wouldn't it be great if the Dolphins' give their franchise back to its rightful heir?! Look at what he did for Cam Newton his rookie season last year. Now I know that most of it was on Cam Newton because as a QB, you either have it or you don't; yet it was Mike's expertise that groomed him. The Dolphins' have a successful RB in Reggie Bush who just rushed for his first ever 1,000 yard season, a heckuva WR in Brandon Marshall, and a  top Pro Bowl-caliber OT in Jake Long. They just need a QB and some polishing up on the defensive side. Mike Shula needs be on Stephen Ross/Jeff Ireland's list. I really don't think Joe Philbin is gonna leave Green Bay; especially after the tragic incident that has happened to his son. Mike Zimmer is a good candiate, but didn't Miami hire a fomer defensive coordinator as their head coach before (i.e., Dave Wannstedt)?! But Miami has tried desperately over 10 years to replace the success of Don Shula and Jimmy Johnson, and have failed consistently. Give Don's son Mike a chance to right the ship.  Amen...
