Jeff Fisher picked the Rams over the Dolphins, CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman has confirmed.

Latest Coaching Rumors, News

Fisher stated last week that he was down to two choices: Miami and St. Louis. One (Miami) featured an owner willing to pay big, big bucks. The other (St. Louis) featured a young, star quarterback in Sam Bradford, potentially more front office control and the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fisher chose the latter and he'll be roaming the sidelines for the Rams in 2012.

"I'm pumped," fullback Britt Miller told The Associated Press. "I figured that because he wanted a little more control that Miami was probably not the place for him. I'm really pumped."

Fisher's been the hottest coaching name this offseason, getting mentioned in rumors involving the Rams, Dolphins, Colts, Buccaneers and even the not-even-vacant position in Chicago, which was supposedly Fisher's dream job.

It's believed that Fisher could bring current Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who worked with Fisher in Tennessee, to join him in St. Louis.

Momentum reportedly swung back to the Dolphins earlier in the week, but here's an interesting tidbit from Yahoo Sports Mike Silver: Fisher was willing to meet Dolphins owner Stephen Ross "halfway" on personnel matters, letting general manager Jeff Ireland still retain plenty of power. However, Ross/Ireland reportedly weren't willing to budge and it may have ultimately cost them a chance to land Fisher.

Reports also indicate that Fisher will choose his own general manager in St. Louis, so the amount of leverage he pulled out of these two teams really can't be overstated.

Thank God I am so glad he decided to come here. He is the type of coach St.Louis and the RAMS need.
A no nonsense type of coach.

In the history of pro football, a scrambling qb has never proven they can win; Tarkenton, Vick, Vince Young, etc.

Have you ever heard of Roger Staubach?  How about Terry Bradshaw?  Both won Super Bowls and both could run (scramble) if needed.

I have been astonished with the rumors, as hilarious as they may be, that the Rams have considered drafting Robert Griffin III!  In the history of pro football, a scrambling qb has never proven they can win; Tarkenton, Vick, Vince Young, etc.  Probably the closest person to that was Steve Young, but he was a pocket passer who ran when needed.  It has to be your second option to succeed in the NFL.  Griffin and Baylor beat very few teams of any stature, and I wouldn't be surprised in coming years to see the boom layed down on that school's programs for multiple violations.  I think RG3 is an immense talent, but I don't know about an NFL qb.  He has to prove me wrong, just like Tebow has to prove me wrong.  Do so, and I'll be the first to admit it!

I agree with you on Spags and hopes he gets the Eagles job, he needed to be replaced in St. Louis, but he is a good guy and knows defense.  Also on Bradford, I wouldn't give up on him yet, I would like to see the Rams trade the #2 pick for multiple picks, need a lot of help in key positions.

How could Fisher go to the Chargers when there is no job there?  Come to think of it maybe he should coach the LA team.

fisher should have gone to the Chargers, but spanos should have fired smith and turner. Fisher have Rivers to work with and I think he should have been hired to get the Chargers over the hump

Good choice, one team has a future great QB and the other has none.

Who cares if Fisher hasn't won a superbowl yet? It took Dick Vermeil years to win one, just saying. If winning a superbowl was easy, then every NFL coach would win one.

NOMANSFAN47, do you know that Jeff Fisher worked under one of the leagues worst owners in Bud Adams? Fisher and Adams even clashed heads with each other a lot, Fisher got lots of those teams to win. He never really had a franchise QB, yes maybe McNair was close to one. But, other than that no one else was a franchise QB. All Bradford needs is an o-line, and targets on the offense. Which could be fixed this offseason (Rams have the most cap room heading into the offseason). Fisher coming to the Rams, means that good players will come. Lots of players have liked playing for Jeff Fisher. Jackson has done all of his work without an o-line, just think of what he could do with an o-line. He was close to having one in 2006, but then Linehan cut one of the lead blockers in Madison Hedgecock .... for a player he coached in college, who didn't even play in any games for the Rams. And today on ESPN 101, when word came out that the Rams got Fisher .... one of the people they had on the phone was former Rams head coach, and when he was on, he took a shot at Bud Adams.

How much longer are the Dolphins going to be a dysfunctional organization?
