Jeff Fisher picked the Rams over the Dolphins, CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman has confirmed.

Latest Coaching Rumors, News

Fisher stated last week that he was down to two choices: Miami and St. Louis. One (Miami) featured an owner willing to pay big, big bucks. The other (St. Louis) featured a young, star quarterback in Sam Bradford, potentially more front office control and the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fisher chose the latter and he'll be roaming the sidelines for the Rams in 2012.

"I'm pumped," fullback Britt Miller told The Associated Press. "I figured that because he wanted a little more control that Miami was probably not the place for him. I'm really pumped."

Fisher's been the hottest coaching name this offseason, getting mentioned in rumors involving the Rams, Dolphins, Colts, Buccaneers and even the not-even-vacant position in Chicago, which was supposedly Fisher's dream job.

It's believed that Fisher could bring current Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who worked with Fisher in Tennessee, to join him in St. Louis.

Momentum reportedly swung back to the Dolphins earlier in the week, but here's an interesting tidbit from Yahoo Sports Mike Silver: Fisher was willing to meet Dolphins owner Stephen Ross "halfway" on personnel matters, letting general manager Jeff Ireland still retain plenty of power. However, Ross/Ireland reportedly weren't willing to budge and it may have ultimately cost them a chance to land Fisher.

Reports also indicate that Fisher will choose his own general manager in St. Louis, so the amount of leverage he pulled out of these two teams really can't be overstated.

You cannot blame the Miami fans fro trying to put the best face on this as possible, but the fact is that St. Louis is the big winner here.  Fisher is going to have a fairly decent base to work with.  Miami still does not have an offense to speak of, and their front office is just terrible.  All of this "maybe we can get this and maybe we can get that" is the talk of losers, and Miami is the big loser here.   Look for marked improvment in St. Louis next season, while amiami struggles to another meaningless season.  The Fish are going to have to get rid of their G.M, and their owner is going to have to grow and realize that he does not know much about personnel, in order for the Fish to compete with the Pats and the Jets, though the Jets are quickly becoming Miami North, when it comes to offense.

I don't see why Fisher is that hot of a prospect.  Gruden and others being more interested in TV than the sidelines may have something to do with it.  But I guess there is a paucity of good coaches.

I think you got lucky fish people. Fisher (no pun intended) hasn't been very good since Eddie George retired. You may get the better deal in the end.

Sounds like sour grapes to me. Marshall is an elite WR talent in the NFL. Who has he had throwing to him in MIami? He looked pretty good with Cutler feeding him. Personality issues? sure, but Ive never read of him being a locker room cancer, those are two different things. I'll overlook his issues for a top 5 WR, any day of the week. He would be the #1 WR in Denver right now if he were still around. Gimme a break.

Potentially great news for Finfans. Now maybe we can land a young, hungry, modern-thinking coordinator instead of a Sparano clone stuck in 90's football. Fisher will run a 4-3 wherever he lands so maybe now we can keep our well established 3-4 in place. Fisher will run 55-60% of the time. Today's game is more 40-45% run. We have an excellent and experienced DC in Nolan, why hire a defense guy as HC? I'd love to see Philbin or Chudzinski in Miami. Someone who can develop a young franchise QB (if we ever find one).

The Dolphins are closer than the Rams.
Not really ? Would you rather have Bradford & Jackson in the NFC West or what the Dolphins have and the AFC East with the Jets & most importantly the Patriots. Even the Bills showed they can win. The NFC West SF may be an overachiever this past season and the Seahawks & Cardinals constantly thrive in underachieve mode. I just think the current Dolphins ownership blew this, just like they did with Harbaugh and Sparano last January. Parcells and Sparano, came in and gave the Dolphins their 1 season of respectability, so that Huizenga could get face value for his stake in the Dolphins. That served it's purpose. Henne is all messed up from the coaching staff he was brought into the NFL with. Bradford, he's going to go to a level comparable to VY at Tennessee. If Fisher can make a winner out of Young, Bradford will be better. Reid & the Eagles couldn't get Young to look any better than a backup QB in the NFL.

The Dolphins are closer than the Rams... oh well. As a Dolphins fan I hope we find a good coach. I wasn't unimpressed with Bowles.
