Jeff Fisher picked the Rams over the Dolphins, CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman has confirmed.

Latest Coaching Rumors, News

Fisher stated last week that he was down to two choices: Miami and St. Louis. One (Miami) featured an owner willing to pay big, big bucks. The other (St. Louis) featured a young, star quarterback in Sam Bradford, potentially more front office control and the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fisher chose the latter and he'll be roaming the sidelines for the Rams in 2012.

"I'm pumped," fullback Britt Miller told The Associated Press. "I figured that because he wanted a little more control that Miami was probably not the place for him. I'm really pumped."

Fisher's been the hottest coaching name this offseason, getting mentioned in rumors involving the Rams, Dolphins, Colts, Buccaneers and even the not-even-vacant position in Chicago, which was supposedly Fisher's dream job.

It's believed that Fisher could bring current Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who worked with Fisher in Tennessee, to join him in St. Louis.

Momentum reportedly swung back to the Dolphins earlier in the week, but here's an interesting tidbit from Yahoo Sports Mike Silver: Fisher was willing to meet Dolphins owner Stephen Ross "halfway" on personnel matters, letting general manager Jeff Ireland still retain plenty of power. However, Ross/Ireland reportedly weren't willing to budge and it may have ultimately cost them a chance to land Fisher.

Reports also indicate that Fisher will choose his own general manager in St. Louis, so the amount of leverage he pulled out of these two teams really can't be overstated.

Even being a 49er fan I would have to admit that this was a Great move for the Rams and their future in a Playoff run.

Thank God Miami didn't get stuck with a .500 coach that can't win Super Bowls.  Now get on with a real search.  It's not about how long someone has been a head coach, it's about winning.  Miami has one of the top defenses in the NFL and the Rams' defense sucks; Fisher has to live in St. Louis instead of Miami and the Miami offense has better offensive linemen, receivers and running backs.  Yea, they could use a better QB, but Moore is already better than Mr. Potential-Bradford.  Fisher is an idiot, Thank You Lord!

well, now, now. the great fisher finally blessed an nfl with his decision. i knew he was an narcissistic ego-maniac. wanted control of the team. noboby can tell him what to do. i really wonder if st louis , with its high priced quarterback and its high falutin coach will have a better record that the chiefs 3 years from now.

I like Spags as a person and as a coordinator. Unfortunately, he was too nice of a guy and the Rams need a coach who will light a fire under their ass. Hopefully coach Fisher will do that.

I like Fisher alot and I think he made the right choice.....he can win his division in his first year at STL.  Watch him go after Polian and then watch out, they could make lots of noise in the off-season.  Great choice and good luck!

In my opinion, this statement is telling:

Reports also indicate that Fisher will choose his own general manager in St. Louis ...

I don't believe Fisher's decision hinged upon money.

I don't believe it hinged upon the presence of a franchise QB.

I do believe Fisher's decision represented a firm vote of 'no' to the Dolphins' front office (and GM), despite of the temptations.  That being said, I feel the crux of the Dolphins' problems start at the top brass and filter on down to whomever holds the head coaching position.

Fisher will have complete control at STL, and that's why he's going to the Rams.
