Josh McDaniels, who will reportedly be working from the coaches' box on Saturday, switched teams "midseason" this year when the Patriots hired him to replace departing offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien.

This didn't sit well with a number of teams and Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the NFL will look at restricting movement of coaches from one team to another during the same league year.

The Broncos, in particular, didn't appreciate the swap, considering that McDaniels, who has intimate knowledge of their roster and personnel, spent all week helping the Pats prepare to play Denver again. (Probably not helping things: Tom Brady's assertion that McD has "inside information.")

Mortensen reports that "a few clubs lodged complaints" about McDaniels transfer and such complaints could be impetus for a rule preventing coaches from swapping teams midseason.

Implementing such a rule would be a logical move, even if the Patriots have several sound excuses -- O'Brien's already moving towards Penn State, and McDaniels will eventually be the full-time OC -- for bringing in McDaniels right away.

It's clear that having McDaniels on staff gives the Patriots some advantage and it's an unfair leg up on an opponent. It's also a gateway for some team down the road to temporarily hire a fired coach simply for a playoff or late-season matchup.

And that's why the NFL would be wise to nip it in the bud before it becomes a more serious issue.

Report: NFL to look at coaches swapping teams

I know I know.. the Colts aren't in it. Cry

I'm just saying that I don't think the Patriots or the Ravens are going to win the Superbowl. I think its going to be an NFC team this season.

I understand that you guys are enjoying your team doing well and still being in it, that was never in question... I am just giving my predictions.

I think the Patriots can and will win the AFC Championship game... I just think the Giants are going to beat them in the Superbowl again.

I could be wrong about it being the Giants in the Superbowl... I doubt I am wrong about New England beating Baltimore... But I think an NFC team is going to beat New England in the superbowl.

am I claiming to be psychic... no, but there it is. I am prepared to eat crow should I be wrong. (not offering photo or video proof)

Report: NFL to look at coaches swapping teams

Even if the Patriots win the AFC Championship game, they won't be winning the Superbowl. So keep dreaming there Pats fans.
Freeneyblitz, whether they might win or not right now is immaterial... because all Patriot fans are enjoying the thrill of their team still playing in the playoffs.

Your post is pathetic because you have nothing to offer, and it just shows your childlike bitterness that the Colts suck.

Now wipe those tears and enjoy watching the best teams in football in pursuit of a Super Bowl title.

Report: NFL to look at coaches swapping teams

Last I checked, McDaniel was not coaching in the NFL this year.  So what's the big deal.

Guess you hadn't checked in quite a while seeing as how he was employed by the Rams for the 2011 season as offensive coordinator. Guess hollow is a good description of your head.

The Patriots didn't "cheat"... However, they did take advantage of the lack of rules pertaining to this mid-season coaching moves.

I think it was pretty savvy to be honest, and not far from what New England does best... find a way to win even if it casts doubt on their ability to win without an unfair advantage. ie... recording and learning teams hand signals and sideline play calls, and now hiring possible playoff opponents fired coaches. Was this guy coaching??? NO, what did he offer... Insider information on offensive and defensive plays and schemes etc.

Kudo's to Brian Billichick sticking to his montra... "cheaters only prosper if they find a way to make it look as if they never actually 'cheated'..."
