It's no secret that people were curious what the Broncos -- or, more specifically, John Elway and John Fox -- plan to do with Tim Tebow going forward. We mentioned the Denver problem in Sorting the Sunday Pile and early word out of Denver is that Tebow will be the starter in 2012.

Divisional Round Recap

Elway said so himself on Monday, and also added that he wants to work closely -- and personally -- with Tebow to improve during the offseason.

"Tim has earned the right to be the starting quarterback going into training camp next year," Elway said at his press conference Monday. "He made some good strides."

We mentioned this on the podcast: the Broncos are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place with their quarterback situation. They might not love Tebow and his "pure passing skills" (or whatever), but he led them to a division title in 2011.

Plus, there are no real viable options for Denver to upgrade. Look at the list that's Ryan Wilson put together, and tell us who exactly the Broncos are going to get to come to Denver who is a better option than Tebow. But because they currently only have two quarterbacks under contract, they will be shopping for another one in the offseason.

"Right now we've got two quarterbacks under contract," Elway said. "We have to obviously be in the market to find some more quarterbacks in free agency or the draft."

They certainly need to sign a veteran, but one of the best options out there (Brady Quinn -- no, really) was already Tebow's backup in 2011. And what veteran is going to want to come to Denver and have to compete with Tebow? Did you even see the Broncos fans last year? They're insane.

Drafting a quarterback isn't out of the question, but it's unlikely that there'll be anyone worth taking out there when Denver makes its first-round pick. It's just a terrible market to need a quarterback if you're sitting in Denver's spot.

So they did the smart thing and put all their support behind Tebow right now, minimizing the questions that will be asked over the next several months. Next up? Try to develop him as much as possible.

"There are things that I can add," Elway said. "Where I can help him ... I'm looking forward to it."

Elway: Tebow 'earned the right' to start in 2012

And remember one last thing, as long as there are qb's named Skelton and Grossman and Haney and at least 6 or 7 other qb's worth nothing in the NFL, this Tebow kid will always have a job.
Redwings, I could not have said it better.  Leave it to a Detroiter to get it.  I ain't no fan of Tebow, but when the alternatives are Colt McCoy, Trevarious Jackson, whoever the Redskins ran out there (I can't even remember), Blaine Gabbert or various other also rans, Timmy will have a job/  Don't like his religion on his sleeve?  Then ignore him, and stop watching.

Who was the Redskins QB, anyway?  Grossman?  John Beck?  Mark Rypien?

Voiceof unreason: No pro OLs are set up predominantly for the run. But the Broncos' running game excelled and McGahee and Tebow would have gone nowhere without superior blocking, inclduing that provided by the TEs and big WR decker. If a team features running, their passing game is likely to suffer to some extent, and the Bronocs ran first, second and chucked on third.

Elway: Tebow 'earned the right' to start in 2012

Thanks rwright7 for the compliment on my post from earlier today..... and yes, I am a Tennessee fan, plus a Clemson fan(grew up in South Carolina 15 miles from Clemson), but for the last five years have also become a big Boise fan. I just hope they can replace Moore with another great QB.  I also wish they could get into The Big Twelve Conference.  Maybe they would get more respect.  Anyway, I hope in the next couple of years, we get to see Kellen playing QB in the NFL on some team..... AS a matter of fact,  the Dolphins might be wise to get him.

Elway: Tebow 'earned the right' to start in 2012

I agree that Denver has no useful alternative than starting Tebow next season. Tebow may yet make a successful transition to pro QB but can the Broncos continue risk of running Tebow in an option scheme with the high risk for injury? Denver needs to place Tebow in the hands of one of the great QB gurus (may have already) to speed the transition. Might Tebow help himself by reducing upper body bulk and emnphaze increasing his throwing arm flexibility? Tebow and Brady Quinn both share extreme upper body development (for a QB) and scattered throws.

Elway: Tebow 'earned the right' to start in 2012

For all of the haters, Tebow deserves to start in the 2012 season. He won games, it is as simple as that. He was not that accurate throwing the ball, had poor form throwing the ball and did not have a high completion rate, but all of those aspects can be worked on during the offseason. For god sakes they have Elway to help him.  For all those who are giving complete credit to the defense, yes they did well and kept the games close, but did the defense drive down the field and score the final touchdown to win the game? No it was tebow with the help of his receivers. Also Prater made a few huge kicks that helped seal some of the victories. Tebow has the heart and desire to win. He brings a whole new attitude to the locker room and to the fans. He never gives up and if he works hard in the offseason, listens to Elway and the coaches, Tebow can become a accurate thrower and win even more games. I'm not saying he will ever be a Brady or Manning, but at some point in his career he may be able to sneak in a ring.

The best thing that could have happened as a Chiefs fan was Denver winning a playoff game. Because if they hadn't, we wouldn't be reading about Ol' Horseface endorsing Tebow as next year's starter. Maybe the Chargers and Raiders can also find a couple of bible-thumping QBs that complete 40% of their passes to clear the path to the division title for the Chiefs. At least the Broncos have been eliminated from next year's division race.

Thanks, Elway! You're doing a bang-up job already.

I still do not believe in Tebow as a QB, and I think Elway's vote of confidence will prove to be meaningless. Tebow is a great guy, but he is a poor professional QB.

If they draft, buy and plan around a Tebow style offense, there's hope.  Look at what they achieved without the proper staff?  Without a line geared to the run, without a solid screen tight end, without a top tier receiver, etc.  Decker was their best receiver, and he would be 2nd or 3rd option on another team.  TEs are weak as well.  And teach Tebow to hold the ball properly when getting sacked (too many fumbles) and they are fine.  A Tebow offense where he's even 50% completion, as well as 50 yards running per game, combined with McGahee and Ball running, and some decent protection for the pass and the option, and you've got something.

Elway: Tebow 'earned the right' to start in 2012

exactly.  He regressed as the season went on.  Plus people seem to forget that he played terrible football during his six game  streak, 3.5 qtrs of putrid football only to be carried by his own defense during those games.  So as teams started to catch on to the spread option and forced him to pass - except the Steelers who were too proud to follow NE's blueprint - he ended up backdooring into the playoffs and week in and week out failed to impress.

Let me start by saying your whole post is so ridiculous I don't even know where to start smashing your entire post... but I'll try.

First of all he didn't play terrible football for 6 straight weeks, not even close.  Against Oakland he ran for 118 yards with 32 yards being his biggest run of the day so he had plenty of great runs in that game.  You don't think a qb running the ball counts for anything? If not, then you don't understand the game of football because not everybody is going to be a Brady or Brees or Manning.  Against the Jets and Sandiego he ran for almost 70 yards in each game, and in the final 2 games of the winning streak he threw for over 200 yards in each game as well as ran for about 50 in one of those games too.

He succeeded against the Steelers because for many reasons, and not only because of anything the Steelers did or didn't do.  He threw at least 3 or 4 GREAT balls to his recievers, two on one drive with the result being 7 points.  And the 2 balls I'm talking about, one deep down the sideline and the other pretty deep into the endzone couldn't have been thrown better by anybody.

Tebow will never be as good throwing the ball as throwing qb's like Brees or Rodgers or Manning or some others.  But the kid only started 11 games and still ran for almost 700 yards.  He's capable of running for one thousand yards for God sakes... I know I know, that's not a real qb right?  Listen... he's got Elway by his side, and trust me when I tell you they'll be working very closely together. Tebow WILL be the starter next year and will win plenty of games..... just wait and see.

I'm not even close to a Denver fan, but I'm not stupid.  This kid proved his worth this season.... remember, I said proved his worth I didn't say he's a great qb.

And remember one last thing, as long as there are qb's named Skelton and Grossman and Haney and at least 6 or 7 other qb's worth nothing in the NFL, this Tebow kid will always have a job.   I think people hate him primarily because he believes so deeply in God they can't stand him.   And in my opinion, it's pretty sad when people hate a kid like that.   What did he do so wrong?

You don't have to worry about Tebow beating a woman or drunk driving or gang banging or doing drugs....... is that the problem though?  Is that why he's hated so much?  Because he's NOT a moron?
