It's no secret that people were curious what the Broncos -- or, more specifically, John Elway and John Fox -- plan to do with Tim Tebow going forward. We mentioned the Denver problem in Sorting the Sunday Pile and early word out of Denver is that Tebow will be the starter in 2012.

Divisional Round Recap

Elway said so himself on Monday, and also added that he wants to work closely -- and personally -- with Tebow to improve during the offseason.

"Tim has earned the right to be the starting quarterback going into training camp next year," Elway said at his press conference Monday. "He made some good strides."

We mentioned this on the podcast: the Broncos are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place with their quarterback situation. They might not love Tebow and his "pure passing skills" (or whatever), but he led them to a division title in 2011.

Plus, there are no real viable options for Denver to upgrade. Look at the list that's Ryan Wilson put together, and tell us who exactly the Broncos are going to get to come to Denver who is a better option than Tebow. But because they currently only have two quarterbacks under contract, they will be shopping for another one in the offseason.

"Right now we've got two quarterbacks under contract," Elway said. "We have to obviously be in the market to find some more quarterbacks in free agency or the draft."

They certainly need to sign a veteran, but one of the best options out there (Brady Quinn -- no, really) was already Tebow's backup in 2011. And what veteran is going to want to come to Denver and have to compete with Tebow? Did you even see the Broncos fans last year? They're insane.

Drafting a quarterback isn't out of the question, but it's unlikely that there'll be anyone worth taking out there when Denver makes its first-round pick. It's just a terrible market to need a quarterback if you're sitting in Denver's spot.

So they did the smart thing and put all their support behind Tebow right now, minimizing the questions that will be asked over the next several months. Next up? Try to develop him as much as possible.

"There are things that I can add," Elway said. "Where I can help him ... I'm looking forward to it."

Elway: Tebow 'earned the right' to start in 2012

@ Johnofsd..... very true, very true. At this point, and probably for his career, Newton is has far better talent at the QB position than Tebow. Anyone who stakes that claim is in denial. But, it doesn't take an elite QB to win in the NFL. If so, Marino would have won a Superbowl and Trent Dilfer would have no rings, as we all know it's the opposite for the two. Romo and Rivers would also have a ring by now, but that's also nto the case. Here again lies the argument I will always attend to, a mediocre QB can win in the NFL. Tebow just needs to be himself and learn under the tutor of Elway and others they bring in to help him. All you absolutes are really trifling, saying he WON'T do any good. Maybe he will; maybe he won't. Only time will tell. It won't be you or me that knows his fate. Many were wrong this season, and he's had no work with the first team or off-season training from his team.

It'd be sweet if Elway and Tebow could be combined into one person to make Elbow.

BLUERAT100: Cam Newton is already one of the best young QBs in the NFL and well on his way to becoming a great QB. Newton's physical talent exceeds Tebow in all important aspects, including being a superior runner.  Step on Newton and other NFL QBs only after Tebow has approached their achievements. Comparing team achievements such as Denver and a perennial loser Carolina does not provide acurate indicators of players' comparative talents.  You can argue Tebow's potential on his own merit without trashing other players. Neither Newton nor any other staring NFL QB have absolutely anything to do with Tebow's success or failure in the NFL. He succeeds or fails on his own merit.

PS 33037Cuda..... You said "And as for being a hard-worker, didn't he spend all offseason on a PR tour promoting himself and his book while Kyle Orton was leading team workouts?" Well... I took the Liberty to find out if what you stated was true.......uh.... No it wasn't!!!! Tebow's book tour was from May 30th-June 11th, not even two full weeks. Secondly, please research your own false statement of Tebow not working out with other teammates. Quoted from

"Veteran safety Brian Dawkins has organized several unofficial team workouts, which all three of Denver’s quarterbacks have attended.  Meanwhile, Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton has been with receiver Eric Decker and Arizona Cardinal’s receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Decker has been working with Fitzgerald for much of the offseason and has also thrown with quarterback Kyle Orton prior to their Minnesota-based workouts.  When quarterback Tim Tebow flew in some of his receivers to Jacksonville in late May however, receivers Eddie Royal (hip) and Demaryius Thomas (ankle) missed due to injuries while Decker was not able to make it due to “another commitment”.

Hmmmm.... The first sentence said "ALL THREE OF DENVER'S QUARTERBACKS HAVE ATTENDED." And it's also noted that Tebow has flown in some receivers to workout in Jacksonville...... Oh my!!!!! Could this be someone making false claims, thinking no one would check him on it?????

Elway: Tebow 'earned the right' to start in 2012

For all the Tebow lovers out there.  Lets put aside the horrible stats this guy puts up each and every week.  Lets focus on "he is just a winner"  Did no one watch the games against SD, Chicago, and Oakland.  this should have been 3 more losses for Denver, never mind the other comebacks he had.  How many believe he will have the same "luck" or divine intervention next year?  He will not improve his passing game, and once defenses igure the running attack, which, by the end of the season, was being figured out, he will be back on the bench eventually.  He has had his run as QB, and thanks to Tebow, Denver will now play a herder schedule next season, only adding to another horrible year statiscally

SilkySmooth: Trent Dilfer was a career journeyman in the NFL, but he never had a completion rate anywhere close to being as low as Tim Tebow's awful 46.5% for the 2011 season. Neither Dilfer nor any other starting QB in decades has had a completion percentage anywhere close to being as as low as Tebow. Your theory of time control dates back to Vince Lombardi and is far, far behind the NFL power curve. NFL teams are tight on to the college schemes used this year by Denver. Tebow has to transition to NFL passing schemes or he risks injuries running and the Broncos' offense chances being choked by other teams. I'm not saying Tebow has failed or that he won't eventually succeed, but I am saying his play as a QB this season way below average. Trent Dilfer is a very intelligent man but I have not seen much evidence that Tim Tebow is the sharpest knife in the drawer. I'm not saying Tebow isn't bright, but I am saying you seriously underestimate Trent Dilfer's intelligence. Dilfer was a limited NFL QB physically but never manifested the difficulty reading NFL defenses that has plagued Tebow. Tebow may succeed but I suspect comparisons to other NFL starting QBs is premature at this juncture.

30337Cuda, maybe you should take your own advice and do some research yourself..... Silky was complimenting what I said about Dilfer and mediocre QB's can win. I never stated that Tebow would win. All I did was give facts that mediocre QB's with the same QB Rating and yards passing have won the SuperBowl. Whether Tebow can win will depend on his off-season training. If he can posess somewhat of an arm, then he can win again. And yes beating the Steelers is an accomplishment. Everyone is in love with Romo, but wherewas he this playoff season? Or better yet, in ALL the seasons he's started at QB for the Comboys, how many playoffs wins does he have? Give you a hint, it's the same as Tebow.... My point being, before you criticize a man for anything, maybe you should give him a chance. The reason why Tebow fans are so high on him is not because of his faith; it's because there were so many negative people, even at the draft, that said he would never do anything in the NFL and NEVER start for the Broncos. Not only did he start, but he helped his team make the playoffs and win, even if it was one and done. By that criticism alone, Tebow has done more than ALL of the detractors said he would EVER do. The nay-sayers are the ones who created "Polar-Ends" when discussing Tebow. I'm not a Tebow or Bronco fan, but I respect and love the way this young man goes about his business, even when ALL said he wouldn't make it in the NFL. A hard working young man being hated by other men? Jealous or Spiteful? Which one are you....

Elway: Tebow 'earned the right' to start in 2012

Elway said: "Tim has earned the right to be the starting quarterback going into TRAINING CAMP next year."    That doesn't mean he automatically starts the actual games, he needs to out perform the other QB's in practice and in pre-season games.   He's a nice guy and nothing against Tebow but he won't outperform the others and will lose the job.
