Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

It's one thing for Jason Pierre-Paul to declare that the Giants would beat the Packers because, well, he apparently knows what he's talking about. ("We’re going to win," Pierre-Paul said after New York beat Atlanta. "One hundred percent we’re going to win ... because we’re the best.")

It's something else when Antrel Rolle makes similar proclamations; his track record in such endeavors is far from spotless. In fact, it's pretty embarrassing.

The Redskins somehow managed to sweep the Giants this season and following their Week 1 win, Rolle went on the radio and said, "As a team and organization we know that the Washington Redskins are not a better team than us. We know that. Hands down. If we played them 100 times they might win five."

Washington would win again when the two teams met 14 weeks later.

Now, five days from the NFC Championship Game, Rolle is again making with the guarantees.

"I might be a little biased, but in our minds, we can’t be beat,” Rolle said via the New York Daily News' Peter Botte. “We’re extremely confident and we’ve given ourselves the reasons to feel that way. We have to continue to give ourselves those reasons, and we will. We have no doubts. It’s right there at the tip of our tongues.”

Rolle's comments aren't unreasonable (well, except that part about winning being on the "tip of our tongues" -- but we knew what he meant); the Giants did just beat the defending Super Bowl champs who went 15-1 during the 2011 regular season. And unlike his observations about the Redskins' inadequacies, Rolle didn't call out the 49ers. He just spoke to how well New York has been playing.

“You can put an All-Star team in front of us, and we’re going to go out there and compete,” he continued. “We don’t fold. No matter what happens, if there’s a bad call, or things aren’t going our way, we’re not going to break. We’re not going to lose focus on what’s at stake and our ultimate goal.”

Rolle's right about that last part: the Giants were hosed twice against the Packers and it didn't matter; they still blew Green Bay out at home. There's something to be said for that, especially since New York has to travel to San Francisco next weekend.

And while we don't have any issues with Rolle's latest remarks, we'd still feel a lot better if they came from JPP. Because, really, there's nothing more shameful than getting called out by Rex Grossman for being bad at your job.

Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

Hey Uncle Marty,

The Giants may well be SB champions but I'm trying to figure out this guy.  I'm a devout Patriots fan but you guys have to go to the left coast and beat up the SF Niners.  What's up with this guy Antrel Rolle?  Not to mention a few of the NYG fans on this post talking a lot of smack!

Seems that the Giants have this one in the bag!  I'm betting the NY Giants to win the Super Bowl!!

WoooooooooooooooooooT!

I bet he said the same thing before every game this year.  You were beaten 7 time Mr. Rolle.  Funny how the 49ers are all humble and working hard and the Giants talk trash,  Let's see where that gets them.

I'd like to see a Patriots/Giants rematch. Pats need some retribution.

the gmen look better than the team that won it ? Which one? The missed fieldgoal champs or catch a ball on your helmet one?  Suck it.

you sound bitter. i guess if a team ruined my team's NEAR perfect season i might harbor a grudge too. you should be proud, 18-1 and superbowl runnerup is still pretty good. btw how many superbowls did new england win by only a measley fieldgoal, i forget. oh yeah, all of them. but that wasn't luck it was skill, right ? j@ck@ss

Yea, and the Titianic was unsinkable. As ole Dizzy Dean said "It aint braggin if you can back it up!" This gives a lot of extra incentive to out perform your opponent. Mr. Rolle is either going to get to make like King Kong or he will have to get the shotgun out and hunt crow.

Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

NY tops the list of Worlds Most Obnoxious Fans.  PHI fans are dangerous.  OAK fans are a little scary.  NE fans are condescending.  MIA fans are fake.  NY fans are just plain hard to listen to.  The Jets imploded and the NYG are playing well, but they can't keep their mouths shut and neither can you guys. Step back from the mic and listen for a moment.  Hear that? You're somebodys punchline. ------------------ Says the Patriots fan... Check a mirror, chief... Pats fans are some of the most arrogant and self-assured in the NFL, at least since they won a few championships 7-8 years ago. Giants fans in general are level headed - morons in message boards non-withstanding.

Sounds like Gore played then didn't he?!  6 rushes for 0 yards.

You can't say you shut down a RB who got 6 touches.  And I don't think the 49ers defense much cares that Bradshaw is back.  They were number one against the run for a reason.  If the Giants move the ball they do it through the air.  The biggest question is does Eli throw picks, because he is streaky.  The Niners won a lot of games because of an absurdly high turnover margin.

@packezrules......Rex said they were winning the Super Bowl before the season started Rolle says hus team can't be beat after his team made the playoffs, beat the Falcons and, dominated the defending champs on their home field. See the difference?

Man is awful Cocky , since Green bay LOST that game more than NEW JERSEY Won it ,
the refs basically kept GB's only td drives alive with bs calls and you're saying the giants didn't win ? you're completely clueless. the refs helped keep the game close for as long as they could but the packers just couldn't play enough defense to avoid a blowout.

but i'll admit antelle rolle is being way too cocky without any actual reason for it, he's the most overrated player in the giants secondary. i wish he'd keep his big mouth shut and focus on playing better.
