Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

It's one thing for Jason Pierre-Paul to declare that the Giants would beat the Packers because, well, he apparently knows what he's talking about. ("We’re going to win," Pierre-Paul said after New York beat Atlanta. "One hundred percent we’re going to win ... because we’re the best.")

It's something else when Antrel Rolle makes similar proclamations; his track record in such endeavors is far from spotless. In fact, it's pretty embarrassing.

The Redskins somehow managed to sweep the Giants this season and following their Week 1 win, Rolle went on the radio and said, "As a team and organization we know that the Washington Redskins are not a better team than us. We know that. Hands down. If we played them 100 times they might win five."

Washington would win again when the two teams met 14 weeks later.

Now, five days from the NFC Championship Game, Rolle is again making with the guarantees.

"I might be a little biased, but in our minds, we can’t be beat,” Rolle said via the New York Daily News' Peter Botte. “We’re extremely confident and we’ve given ourselves the reasons to feel that way. We have to continue to give ourselves those reasons, and we will. We have no doubts. It’s right there at the tip of our tongues.”

Rolle's comments aren't unreasonable (well, except that part about winning being on the "tip of our tongues" -- but we knew what he meant); the Giants did just beat the defending Super Bowl champs who went 15-1 during the 2011 regular season. And unlike his observations about the Redskins' inadequacies, Rolle didn't call out the 49ers. He just spoke to how well New York has been playing.

“You can put an All-Star team in front of us, and we’re going to go out there and compete,” he continued. “We don’t fold. No matter what happens, if there’s a bad call, or things aren’t going our way, we’re not going to break. We’re not going to lose focus on what’s at stake and our ultimate goal.”

Rolle's right about that last part: the Giants were hosed twice against the Packers and it didn't matter; they still blew Green Bay out at home. There's something to be said for that, especially since New York has to travel to San Francisco next weekend.

And while we don't have any issues with Rolle's latest remarks, we'd still feel a lot better if they came from JPP. Because, really, there's nothing more shameful than getting called out by Rex Grossman for being bad at your job.

Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

The Gmen are on fire. They look better then the team that won it all. The offense is so explosive! It seems like every game has at least one big play. The 49ers are a good team but they are weak offensively. Davis will not have the same impact and the wr are lacking. Rolle is right woe can't be beat. 2 super bowls in 4 years with all the talent they have coming back from injury next year. Look out NFL.

Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

I am so happy to see Defense dominating these finesse Offenses in the Playoffs. All year long Prisco and other CBS writers have said that Offense now wins Championships and the days of the big-time D is irrelevant with the new rules.
As a Steeler fan I honestly and truly don't mind us out of the picture since I don't think we could have won it all this year anyway, and losing early is so much easier to digest than losing late in the postseason. But to have to choose between our two most hated rivals in the AFC is stomach churning. That said, I don't think the Ravens have much of a chance with their inept offense. They absolutely will need multiple turnovers and a flawless, mistake-free game to have any shot against the Pats. And since I despise the Ravens even more than the Patriots, I would feel relieved about not having to listen to Raven fans gloat all summer. But, please no, not the cheating* Patriots again.
The 49ers D and home field is going to give SF a good chance to win, but I still think the NYG have an edge the way they have been playing the last month. But the loud mouth guarantees rub me the wrong way. I've never heard a Steeler make a statement like these NY team's players do on a weekly basis. (I also don't want the 49ers to have a chance at 6 rings, either.)
So I guess in the end I'm hoping for a Giants-Raven SB with the Giants coming out on top decisively, breaking Ray Lewis' murdering* heart.
*Note: I only use words like cheating and murdering because I am sick of people calling Ben a rapist in every post. He's grown from that (I think), just like Lewis has matured, and I assume the Patriot's coaches have grown up, too. Yet these 13 year old posters just don't stop with their crass posts. Just wanted their fans to see how it feels when you dwell on the past flaws of others. Everybody makes mistakes. It's whether you grow from them that matters. Some don't, like Pacman Jones, T.O, Ochocinco, Santonio Holmes and the entire Jets squad, et. al.)
But, good luck to all four teams still rollling. You've all earned it.

Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

LOL LOL LOL. I like it, keep doubting the niners. Its like deja vu. Last week it was the Saints are too hot a team right now they have won 8 straight. No way possible the 49ers can beat them. ESPECIALLY if it turns into a shootout. Well we know what happened. We play the game to see the results. I am a real niner fan. I pulled for my team to win and suffered the years they sucked. And one thing I know is on ANY Given Sunday a team can win. So yes the Giants are a very good team. Giants might win, Niners might win. Who will win? Well thats why they play the game. Hoping for a good game and niners to prevail with a win, and no injuries. -Island49er

BEAT THEMSELVES? Get a grip, the Big Blue Wrecking Crew came into the tundra and handed the Packers their final loss of the season. The refs did everything they could to help the Pack out, with no results. Forced fumbles and ints, Gmen baby! Put the Pack back on the rack, its Big Blue about give out another smack! Bring on SF! Start making a list of excuses for the 9ers...

Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

I would hope that he would be thinking postively. The New York football Giants are going to the NFC Championship game this weekend. If as a professional athlete, you don't have the utmost confidence in your team and in their ability to win 2 more games, then you should not be on the field. Plain and simple. Rolle did not gaurantee victory, he just expressed the high that is going on in the Giants locker room and with their whole team. They should feel unbeatable, they just beat Greenbay (15-1) and are going back to San Fran for some redemption. I just wish writers could find something with a little more substance to write about. We are heading into the final 3 games of the season.... LETS GO BIG BLUE!

and one of those 7 teams that beat the giants is the 49ers who did it without Gore at RB

And the Giants had no Bradshaw..while losing Boley and Tuck in the first half (might have been the first QT) of that game.

Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

Fans never give the other team credit. Both teams get paid, and sometimes you have to realize the other team was better.
