TresselBy Josh Katzowitz

On Friday, my colleague Ryan Wilson asked the question: “Would the Colts interview Jim Tressel for a coaching job?”

Apparently the answer to that question is yes. Not only that, but it’s a resounding yes.

As WBNS-TV in Columbus is reporting (via the Cleveland Plain Dealer), Tressel already has had two interviews for the chance to replace Jim Caldwell, and the second one occurred Friday when owner Jim Irsay flew to Sarasota, Fla., where Tressel has a home, to talk with the former Ohio State coach.

If Indianapolis was to hire Tressel, it would be a stunning development.

On Thursday,’s Mike Freeman talked to a source about the Colts possibly speaking to Tressel, who worked with the franchise as a game day consultant this season, and that source told him that there is “no way in hell” the franchise would consider it.

Latest coaching news, rumors
Well, it sounds like Indianapolis is more than considering it.

Already, it’s been reported that the Colts have focused their attention on Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray and Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael.

Either way, this decision should be done seven days from now.

Already today, Irsay tweeted that Colts fans can expect a decision on the new coach by late next week. Will that person be Tressel? Somehow, it sounds like it’s most definitely a possibility.

And just as a reminder, this is what I wrotein October:
You wonder about Caldwell’s statement about wanting Tressel to get the hang of how the pro operation works. Does Caldwell eventually want to hire Tressel to be an assistant on his staff? Or what happens if the Colts deem Caldwell expendable after this debacle of a season is complete? Would Tressel be a candidate for the head coaching job?

If so, perhaps Caldwell should cool it on letting Tressel know too many secrets of pro football coaching (if it’s even Caldwell’s call). Otherwise, the guy he’s schooling might be the guy who is soon to replace him.

Report: Tressell has interviewed with Colts TWICE

Hmm...I really take no position on whether the Colts hiring/not hiring Tressel.  But the issue sure seems to set off a firestorm of negative postings.  Is this all due to the fact that Tressel is from Ohio and the Colts are in Indiana?  It does seem ironic that certain members of the staff, Dennis Dodd to be specific, have gone out of their way to rehash vitriol against Tressel, even making up a word (Tresselized), while other members are seemng to push Tressel as the expected new coach of the Colts.

Draft Andrew Luck and Tressells stale offensive scheme will produce back to back to back 2-14 seasons.

This has to be one of the dumbest comments I've ever heard?  First did the tattoos make tOSU's players' better?  Wow, I need tattoos.  This is an example of someone that sits at home, doesn't know Jim Tressel from Adam, summarizes all the Bullshit that is spewed by sites like these, without even considering the THOUSANDS of people that actually have a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with him.  But some hack writer doing hit pieces for money is probably more right. And you seemed to have this one nailed.  Call the Colts.  Their front office is posting on CBS.

He has flaws a coach.  But he's a great man.  Hell, what other coach even came out and said ANYTHING?  Nobody that has a top 50 program with kids that have tattoos and loaner cars.  Which every school does.

Tressel was a great man at tOSU.  I really don't care if he had the worst intentions on lying about tattoos.  Tressel got ran over by some players he just couldn't get to.  He was a great molder of young men.  Find me ONE guy that truly knows this guy that doesn't have the UTMOST respect and love for him.  Look at his former players.  The families he's helped.  He wasn't the best X's and O's guys in the world which is why I'm surprised with this strong look(offensively tOSU was bad), but he built tough young men and won in a playoff type format at the highest level.  The trash the media dropped on this man was a disgrace.  Now people that really don't know the man, generalize what they read on public forums like the crap that was spewed on sites like this.  But what do the Colts and just about every Coaching Colleague and player know about Character?

Tressel is a good coach and a good man.  The media and NCAA were wrong to tarnish him.  Had I been his lawyer, I would have gone public big-time over the simple fact he was told it was a federal investigation and to keep it quiet.  I hope he gets Indy.  He deserves it.  The media should lay off.

I will wash my hands with this organization, that I thought had a lot of class, if they hire this lying cheater. He has no class and does not deserve to coach again anywhere where class is involved. I will not have any well wishes for this orginization if they give this jerk the head coaching job. Irsay must not have an ounce of either for even considering this famine. You hire this bum and I will make it my life's project to cause upheaval in the organization and team and will not be satisfied until the Colts are busted, broke, and thoroughly beaten down to nothing. Ths guy is a puke.

Tressel may have lied at OSU but that is only because he is a loyal person and helped his players out.  He lost his job for the program and is taking all the blame.  Give this guy NFL talent and he will be a great coach that can turn this Colts team back into a contender.  For all those haters who say he plays too conservative and doesn't know offense just take a look at the stats Troy Smith and Terrelle Pryor had as starting quarterbacks for the Buckeyes.  If Andrew Luck is the man then I believe Tress will be able to put a nice system around him so their offense succeeds!

Tressell would be a good coach to build the team with.   Especially since they are looking at not having Manning.   This is the type of coash that would fit well with Luck if they pick him in the draft.

Personally I feel RG3 has a good shot at ending up a Colt.    Either player would grow well under Tressell.
