The Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching search has been quiet the last few days but on Sunday night a potentially earth-shaking report emerged that has Oregon Ducks coach Chip Kelly leaving his gig in Eugene to take a job with the Bucs.

That report comes from KGW Sports' Michael Berk who says that Kelly is "working to finalize a deal that would make him head coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs."

Latest Coaching News, Rumors

Berk adds that Kelly will "make the jump" if he can "come to terms on a contract," so let's hold the horses on assuming that this is a done deal, at least for now.

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Tribune confirms Berk's report, noting that general manager Mark Dominik and the Glazer family met with Kelly "this past week" and that "both Kelly and the Bucs are proceeding down a path they mutually hope will result in an agreement in the next 24-48 hours."

And then there's this:

"We got Chip Kelly!... Let's go #Buccaneers," Bucs wide receiver Arrelious Benn tweeted Sunday night, before adding that he was only "asking" if the Bucs landed Kelly.

Kelly became the offensive coordinator for Oregon in 2007 and served in that position until head coach Mike Bellotti became the school's athletic director and Kelly took over as head coach.

He's won the PAC-10 Coach of the Year award twice and made a BCS bowl each of his three seasons at Oregon, in large part thanks to his high-powered spread offense that's piled up points for the Ducks since he came to Eugene.

Report: Chip Kelly 'close' to landing Bucs job

I'm not sure his offense translates well to the NFL, but it is dynamic in college.  Most often these guys are so set in their way they are typically reluctant to change - should be interesting to see.

Who said Chip Kelly was a one trick pony? He may have a completly different angle for the NFL, or some variation of the spread the will adapt at this level.

Report: Chip Kelly 'close' to landing Bucs job

Sources out of Oregon suggest the NCAA instructed Oregon to dump Chip Kelly.  Otherwise face mega consequences.  Oregon will now get off lighter for having bought influence to recruits (Will Lyles' words, not mine).  This is similar to Tressel being forced out at Ohio St. and them getting off rather light considering the crime.

Report: Chip Kelly 'close' to landing Bucs job

The sh#t is getting ready to hit the fan in Eugene so Kelly is out the back door as the NCAA is coming in the front. Too bad for Oregon they're not in the SEC cuz if they were they'd be getting just a slap on the wrist. Since they're in the PAC here comes the hammer!!!
