NewtonBy Josh Katzowitz

Now that the Patriots and Giants officially are heading to Indianapolis for Super Bowl XLVI, that means nobody from New England and New York will be flying to Honolulu this week for the Pro Bowl.

Which means we get tons of additions and deletions to the roster!

Here’s the list so far.

-Panthers standout rookie quarterback Cam Newton will replace Eli Manning on the NFC roster. As you well know, Newton threw for 4,051 yards passing, the most ever by a rookie quarterback in NFL history while recording 21 touchdowns and posting an 84.5 quarterback rating. Newton also rushed for 14 scores, the most ever by an NFL quarterback.

-Bears defensive end Julius Peppers will take over for New York’s Jason Pierre-Paul. This is Peppers’ seventh Pro Bowl appearance, and it’s the first time since Richard Dent in the mid-1980s that a Chicago defensive end has made the roster in back-to-back seasons.

-Jets guard Brandon Moore will replace New England’s Brian Waters on the AFC roster. This is Moore’s first Pro Bowl selection. Ravens guard Ben Grubbs will take over for Logan Mankins.

-Bad news for Tim Tebow. According to Pro Football Talk, Ben Roethlisberger “definitely” is attending the Pro Bowl festivities, meaning Tebow, the second alternate, will be staying home this week (and maybe going on tour with Brad Paisley instead).

-As the Cincinnati Enquirer reports, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton replaces Tom Brady, tight end Jermaine Gresham replaces Rob Gronkowski and defensive tackle Geno Atkins replaces Vince Wilfork.

Cam Newton and other Pro Bowl roster additions

Stafford has the best season ever for a QB, maybe for any player from any position, without going to the Pro Bowl. He had the 5th most all-time passing yards and threw for 41 TDs. This was a very strong year for QBs, especially in the NFC, but Stafford had 41 TDs compared to Manning's 29 and a lot more passing yards and more total TDs than Cam, and he led Detroit to the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. Seriously????
I know it was a very strong year for NFC QB's and I can even understand Eli getting the nod, as he plays in the largest market in the US and his last name is Manning.

What I don't get is -- 5000+ yards and 41 tds -- He is the SIXTH choice in the NFC alone.  THAT is a travesty.  Newton?!?!  1st alternate??  Really?  Romo is the 2nd alternate??  Guess 5000 yards and 40+ tds isn't what it used to be.  LOL

gispartan, you're wrong twice, Newton had 14 tds this year beating Grogans 12 and nobody would say that Grogan is a better runner than Newton and Elis passing numbers this year were just as good as Staffords as well, Stafford did throw for 100 more yards but threw 70 more passes and got a ton of garbage stats at the end of games when teams were playing the prevent, Eli had no such luxury, he also didn't have the best receiver on earth to throw to, Stafford does. If you are making the argument that Stafford is the better QB this year you obviously stopped watching football when the Lions season ended, Eli is by far the better player right now.
the hit man,

you do realize that stafford had a better completion %, threw for more yards, had 12 more tds, a better QB rating and his team had a better record.  so how is it again that Eli's passing numbers were just as good as Stafford???  Can you explain that one to me???

i'd also like to know what games Stafford piled up "garbage stats" -- the only games that was a complete blowout for Detroit was the Bears game.  the other blowouts were by the Lions -- against the Chiefs when he didn't play the 4th quarter, against the Broncos where he didn't play in the 4th quarter and against the Chargers where Stafford handed the ball off over and over in the 4th quarter.

so explain where stafford got all the garbage yardage?!?!

who watches those games anyway?  I think they are just trying to boost the ratings.  If they could figure out a way to get tebow in there I'm sure they would.

no hitman you are dead wrong..
the only category Eli lead over stafford was sacks... so eli has a better o line tell us someting we dont know

the only garbage is what you are spewing! stafford did all this on a team that had ZERO run game for 3/4 of the season! you are right about one thing stafford had the best reciever on the planet to throw to who by the way was doubled for most of the season! good throws or just great catches all the time? hhmmm not rocket science there! by the way, eli has the best bookend recievers in the league, watch a game or two maybe even check their stats!

i will agree that eli is a better(not far) player right now but in no way did he light it up on his 60 throws.

all those arguements aside \cam frickin fig newton ? pleeease! looks like an equal rights decision to me cause it sure isnt based on stats or team mvp!

This isn't that difficult to figure out - the same NFL that moved the Denver at Minnesota game in Week 13 from CBS to Fox.....the same NFL that put Denver @ NE in the Saturday prime-time slot in the divisional round when it should have been NO @ SF......is the same NFL that sends Cam Newton to the PB over Stafford.  All for one reason - ratings.  Stafford's just another exceptional passe
r who should be there.  Newton has more exciting athletic ability, and that's the marketable commodity.  Who says the NFL doesn't bow to anyone or anything?  It bows to the almighty dollar.....any and every one of them.  It's decisions like these, where ratings are obviously the ONLY reason, that makes this league a lot less than what it should be.
