Manning gives well-received locker room speech

ManningBy Josh Katzowitz

When you think Eli Manning, you don’t necessarily think of the phrase “vocal locker room leader” (isn’t that right, Tiki Barber?).

But when Manning has something to say, his Giants teammates take notice, and whatever he speaks about usually makes an impact. And with still 12 days to go before New York faces the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, Manning decided to showcase his leadership skills during a team meeting just before coach Tom Coughlin gave the Giants an off-day on Wednesday.

He decided to talk about -- or maybe just reemphasize -- how the team, you know, really should go about its Super Bowl preparations in a somewhat professional manner.

“I was just telling them just a little bit how to prepare for this,” Manning said, via the NY Daily News. “Just handling all your business with tickets, getting that stuff done. Just a few things on just the mindset of this week. We’ve got to have great preparation. Prepare this week like you’re playing the game this week, because once you get out to Indianapolis, you’ve got to take a bus ride to practice and the whole schedule gets thrown off.

“We’ve got to have everything that we normally have to do during a normal work week, we’re going to try to get it done this week.”

The talk apparently made an impact.

“It was a broad message that needed to be said,” safety Antrel Rolle said. “And it was a message that was heard loud and clear by everyone. Basically this is about business. Let’s go take care of it. Let’s go get it done, at whatever it costs.”

Man, Tiki Barber would be so proud.

@Al Valkenheiser - please stop it with all your conspiracy theories...its 60 minutes of football...one play or call by the officials does not determine the outcome of the game...Seriously - if u were correct than the NFL must hate the Falcons lmfao...bc they can't even win a playoff game!!!! And I have tivo and have watched it over and over and the official is signaling the ball down as he is running in and blowing his whistle...he is right on top of the play and it was 100 percent the correct call. Look up the rule...when forward progress is stopped and the player is being driven backwards the player is down...not where he is when the official blows the whistle, but where he furtherest forward progress took him...so being that he was called down and the ball was spotted 2 yards forward from where he fumbles...it is not a fumble...period!

And u are completely wrong...Giants win going away and they are actually goin to embarrass the Patiots.

Watched and listened to the replay , fordham i suggest you do it again on youtube the just like tha announcers say the whistle comes way after the ball had been fumbled. , truth is the nfl wanted the pats , giants and the officals will help the pats in the super bowl , the league was upset at the pats because of spygate last superbowl and all the calls went against new england in that game , this time with robert kraft helping to end the lockout , his wife's death and revenge angle .. The patriots Will get all the calls you can bet on it Pats win 42-28

Why So Concerned with Tiki?

Josh, no need for your article about Eli Manning to go out of its way to sarcastically mention Tiki Barber TWICE, at the very beginning and very end.  Tiki is a deadbeat has-been that really never was.  The forced mentions distract from an otherwise good article.

123kid "Kyle Williams made 2 mistakes that cost the 49ers game...and the refs not reviewing a clear fumble. Nothing you say can change the fact that Bradshaw fumbled with 2 mins left. The NFL has certain teams it wants in the Super Bowl...Giants Vs Pats will get more ratings than 49ers Vs Pats...sad but true. And the truth hurts. Giants defense is AVERAGE at best. 49ers defense was much better but got f**ked over."

Man I LOVE cry babies! Its fumble...a game is not won on one play...ever! Thats why u hear all the time that the only thing that matters is winning...not how u won, but just the fact that u won! U are crying about calls, but the 2 WORST calls of the playoffs and maybe the entire season were against the Giants in their gae against GB. The non-fumble call (sounds familiar) and the personal foul against Osi for hitting Rodgers in the head when he was not even close to touching his head...but great teams win despite...

Everyone wants to cry about Kyle Williams fumbling and losing the game for the 9ers...and yes it is a fact that his fumble in OT set the Giants up for the winning FG. But what NO ONE is talking about is the fact that Kyle Williams' returns all game put the 9ers in great field posistion. And in reality, his returns alone set up 10 points directly for the 9ers! The only score that was not a direct result of his returns was the first score when no one covered Vernon Davis for a 72 yd TD....thats it! Plus, that decision in OT to have Kyle Williams even try to return that punt is on the HC...they should have just told him to fair catch it and play on...but they didn't for one obvious reason...they knew the ONLY chance of getting into scoring position! AND THAT IS A FACT!!!!!

And lastly, if u are still arguing the Bradshaw fumble, then u don't know the rules in the NFL...watch the play again in real time...the official blows the whistle before the ball comes out...that makes it a dead ball and not reviewable...period! There really is no debate...thats the rule. Now u can cry all u want about whether the official should have blown the whistle, but that is a moot point to me, bc he did, and the rule is the rule!

Lastly, to say Eli and the Giants didn't earn this win in SF in straight bull****!!! First of all, we went into SF and won, so that is ALL that matters! The Giants D was good??? Really...how many yards did Frank Gore have??? Have many 1st Downs total did the 9ers have??? And prob the most important stat in pro football (aside from turnovers) is 3rd down conversion....how many 3rd down conversions did the 9ers make????? They were 1-14 (and that one came on the last play of regulation when the Giants were in a prevent lmfao). How many catches did the WR's have???? All these stats are a compliment to the Giants D! As for Eli...wake up...he has arrived! Hate if u want but in 10 days he will be winning his 2 SB and this time there will be no debate that he is the MVP of the SB. He is going to torch the Pats D.

Manning gives well-received locker room speech

I am a huge Giants fan but WAS never an Eli Manning lover. He is obviously having his best year. I will state that I am glad the Giants have Eli over Rivers now ( I would not have said that last year.) I've read a lot of post about the calls in the 49er game. Did anyone notice when they showed a reply of the Giants rushing many times their numbers on their uniforms were squished from offensive holding? I don't think there was one holding call on the niners all game.
And as far as the Giants "D" being average!!! Wow I'll take that all day... If the Giants are able to pressure Brady and whack him around like they did 4 yrs. ago... G-Men win 21-17.

giants fan here....

Brady is the best QB in history in my opinion... so, now that we've settled that.... on to the more important thing... WHO CARES? my, and many others, fandom lies within the team, not the player. so, if the giants beat the pats on super sunday, brady will still be the best ever in my opinion... but, the giants will be the best team this year. I ask you, which is going to make you feel better at the end of the day... the media declaring Tom Brady Best QB Ever and the Pats lose... or Tom Brady is Elite and may not be the Best Ever but the Pats won?

choice is easy in my opinion. They can tell me (and some still do) that Eli is awful... so long as he has 2 rings, i'm fairly sure i'll be happy (heck, i'm happy with the 1 ring... vindicated him and his high draft status forever... if you don't think so, ask 50% of the NFL teams who can't find a QB to save their life).

Go Big Blue!!!!
