It's been more than a year since Peyton Manning played in an NFL game, but just five weeks out from a $28 million roster bonus coming due, the Colts have to make a decision on his future in Indianapolis. Teams are already lining up for his services (allegedly, of course) -- both those with obvious quarterback needs and others who may be willing to reconsider their current quarterback situation.

The problem: no one knows how healthy Manning is. He missed the 2011 season after undergoing three neck surgeries in two years, and Sports Illustrated's Peter King reported Sunday that Manning is struggling to get healthy before March 8, the day he's to receive the aforementioned roster bonus.

King adds: "No one knows yet if he'll play at all. In the last few days ... I've heard mixed reports about his physical condition. There is no guarantee he'll be healthy enough for any team to build its offense around."

King also seconded something we wrote on the Eye on Football blog: Colts owner Jim Irsay didn't make a decision on Manning's future "weeks ago."

"I talked to Colts owner Irsay over the weekend, and he insisted, contrary to an NFL.com report that he decided 'weeks ago' to part ways with Manning, that he hasn't done any such thing," King wrote Monday.

"There has been no decision,'' Irsay told King. "This thing is still up in the air. I guarantee you I have not made the decision."

On Monday, Peyton's non-football-playing brother, Cooper, told NFL Network's Albert Breer that Manning was "determined" to play in 2012.

"What I do know is Peyton is going to do every single thing a human being can possibly do to get ready to play again," Cooper said from New Orleans according to Breer. "Where, when and how he'll play, that's all up in the air. But as far as his body goes, Peyton's smart, he'll know what to do. Anyone predicting what will happen now going forward is just wasting their breath. But he is working as hard as anyone can work to get out there again."

Without knowing the state of Manning's recovery but with Irsay having already begun the housecleaning process, it's fair to assume that Manning may have played his last game for the Colts. He won't be out of work long, though; in fact, we wouldn't be surprised if some truly desperate team took a flier on him even if he's not yet cleared to return to the field. After all, the NFL is a passing league woefully short on passers.

Report: Peyton Manning struggling to get healthy

Brady's first Super Bowl was a complete joke and gift from the NFL. TUCK TULE? Please? He lost that game and never should have won that first Super Bowl? History could have been changed if he doesn't get that gift! Any ? Now?

Report: Peyton Manning struggling to get healthy

this from a guy who's QB is king of the dink & dunk

*******

P. Manning has a lifetime YPA of 7.6  ... Brady has a lifetime YPA of 7.51.    So the "all mighty" choke artist has a whopping .09 more yards per throwing attemp ... ya, he's really slinging it a lot further down the field than Brady.

AND .. Brady is still playing like he's in his prime, as he had a personal best 8.57 YPA this season WITHOUT a speedy WR to stretch the field .. now THAT is truly GREATNESS!

Brady FIVE SBs ... 3 time champion, possible 4 time   ... Manning 2 SBs?  and only ONE ring (gifted by PI calls)

Mannings career QB rating 94.9  ... Brady's 96.4

Any questions  .. SHHHHHHHHHHHH
Tell me, How many super bowls has Brady won without his great defense? You know Asante Samuel, Mike Vrabel, Richard Seymour, Ty Law, Willie Mcginest? How many exactly?

Oh so you mean that when put in the same situation as Manning, without being carried by a great defense, he's an average postseason QB? How many super bowls as he won without the Pats D holding the greatest show on turf to 17 points, and Ty Law taking back pick 6's? How many has he won exactly?

Since the pats stopped cheating, and all the great defensive players left, what's Tom Brady's record against Peyton Manning? Its 2-5? Hmm.. Interesting....

Peyton Manning is the best QB of our generation. Give him a halfway decent defense and he has 7 rings.

Peyton is on the same level as Brady, for those of you arguing about it.  Is Brady more "clutch" than Peyton?  Probably.  Is Peyton a more consistent regular season player than Brady?  Yes.  Are they both HOF'ers?  Yes.

Bottom line, it's almost February 2012, and Peyton is still trying to "get healthy."  That's absurd.  If he's not healthy by now, he's already at maximum medical improvement for the neck, and that spells bad news for him.  Irsay is a liar.  He knows they aren't picking up the option on him.  Plus, any team that signs Peyton is short-sighted and foolish.  He's done.

Since when is Jim Irsay a football guru? Oh thats right.. He hired a new G.M. responsible for the philly dream team. lol.. Go ahead and rebuild, ruin Andrew Luck with a weak offensive line, no running game and a shameful defense.. Jim knows what he's doing... Fire the Polian family, a proven winning formula for the colts to return to mediocrity.. Enjoy Super Bown Sunday Jim.... this will be your last....   What were the Colts before Polian and Manning???   they were ponies......

Report: Peyton Manning struggling to get healthy

I had the same surgury done on myself on last year's New's Eve and I am still somewhat in recovery. If he has had three.. There is no chance at all he will be a starting QB in 2013 and teams will learn this quickly.
Just to take the snap from his center will create issues, which I think are the type of motions that are keeping his progress down. If he rushed his rehab at all he is screwed. Throwing drills, over-stretching, and re-hab can make a great QB like this take a few major steps back.
My opinion= He will retire after he finds out he can not do the conditioning drills for the teams who will work him out and become one of the best coaches or T.V comentators.  Indy would be foolish to fork over 28mil and not take Luck.. But hey at least they will retire #18

Report: Peyton Manning struggling to get healthy

Sometimes the issue isn't pain. Mine wasn't. It was exactly the opposite - lack of feeling, and temporary paralysis. It was only going to get worse, as degenerative disks don't get better, they just get worse (you know, DEGENERATIVE). Some issues with degenerative disks could lead to permanent paralysis is left untreated. What one needs to do is the same as what one should do when one needs any service, ask around and be diligent in researching potential surgeons. But these things are quite often a little more complex than just dealing with the pain.

I say the same. writting  is on the wall with Irsay saying what he said. Sad story with the Colts but time to move ove on. Hey pats got a blessing in disguise when Bledose got hit on the sidelines by a jet player . Now that haunts the Jets because Tom Brady  took over and has more or less put the East conference and the New York Jets at a stantsill....Go New  England PatriotsYellYell

Peyton looks like he swallowed a lemon ... Irsay probably just told him Luck was his guy now and that he's gonna have to take his overrated stat padding somewhere else now. Cry
