Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

Tim Tebow was the story heading into training camp last summer, he was the story for 20 weeks during the season, and he'll continue to be the story this offseason. On Monday, John Elway, the Broncos executive vice president of football operations, said the team "will be in the market to find more quarterbacks" in the coming months.

This wasn't so much an indictment of Tebow's 2011 season, more the realization that the Broncos need to add depth at the position. Kyle Orton was jettisoned during the season and Brady Quinn is set to be a free agent in a few weeks. While Tebow still remains atop Denver's depth chart heading into training camp, he has plenty to improve on. And when we say plenty, we really mean everything. Broncos general manager Brian Xanders provided specifics.

"It's the precision on the passing, it's the accuracy, the footwork, the mechanics, the rhythm, the timing, the quickness, the release. Everything," Xanders told the Denver Post's Mark Kiszla. "And he wants to work at it. And he's dedicated. He's going to work really hard at improving those things. Our coaches, Mike McCoy and Adam Gase, and hopefully even John Elway are going to help him improve throughout the offseason. And he knows he has a lot of work to do. We're excited about him improving in those areas."

And that improvement, ultimately, will decide Tebow's fate. This isn't a revelation, but it does explain why Elway would only commit to him as the starter "heading into training camp." As Kizla writes, however, there's another reason to make Tebow compete for the starting job: he plays better when he's challenged.

But raw athleticism will only get him so far. For Tebow to have sustained success he'll have to -- wait for it -- become a much better passer. Or, in Xanders' words, improve on everything.

7-4 and a playoff spot and 1-1 in the playoffs in first semi full year not good enough for you Sparky? (The GM)  Would you rather go back to a few years ago?  Dumba$$.

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

Poor Tim Tebow, holding on for hope.  The only reason John Fox and John Elway put him in last year was to prove he couldn't play quarterback at the NFL level.  Unfortunately for them, the defense kept them in the game and Tebow did just enough to squeek out wins over some teams who underestimated them.  Now the Broncos are stuck with him at the top of their depth chart for now, but it won't last long.  We'll get a real quarterback soon enough...

you tebow haters must all be atheaists. the guy brought a 1-4 team to the playoffs. mean while cam newton who you all praise did not make the play offs i gess he dosnt need any work? i dont get it .  i think denver needs a new coach  because he is holding tebow back and says negeative things about  tebow. if i were tebow i would ask to be traded or fire  the coach.

tim and whoever makes the calls in denver, move to tight end/h-back ang go be a probowler. if you are a real team guy , lobby for a real qb to be added to the roster and go catch touchdowns. that deep ball stuff will only last so long when its your only card to play.

I agree, Tebow has no chance to become an adequate NFL quarterback.  The sooner Denver realizes this, the less time they will be wasting time finding a quality QB.  Just say NO TO TEBOW!!!!............Elway should know, he's been there, he know what it takes and Tebow is not the answer.

Tebow's got the praying part down and making sure that everyone sees it as well. How about dating now that the offseason's commenced? There ought to be a legion of Christian girls willing to scream "OH GOD!" for him at this point. Hope he's interested.
I'm trying to figure this post out. I think it's an attempt to insult Tebow but it's hard to tell, since the poster just looks really dumb.

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

BREAKING NEWS: THIRD-YEAR QUARTERBACK WITH LESS THAN A YEAR OF STARTS STILL NEEDS TO WORK ON HIS GAME.  No bleep, Sherlock.  This is not exactly Puliter Prize work, nor is the GM showing very much.  The team was better with Tebow than it was without him.  When he gets better at all of the stereotypical NFL "essentials" and adds them to what he can already do, the results could be scary.

That's a fair assessment.
