LeSean McCoy admits he didn't try at the Pro Bowl

INDIANAPOLIS -- LeSean McCoy had a heck of a season in 2011, rushing for 1,309 yards and 17 touchdowns. It netted him the FedEx Ground Player of the Year on Wednesday at the Super Bowl. And it also landed him a trip to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl.

While there, McCoy was on the NFC team that Aaron Rodgers believes should be "embarrassed" by a lack of effort. Actually, he was "one of those guys" that didn't try, and said so himself on Wednesday.

"Yeah? I'm one of those guys," McCoy said when asked about Rodgers comments. "You walk around every practice and the guys before the games on other teams are like 'take your time' because we're going on a very slow pace, very easy.

"And you get out there and you see guys half-doing it and you do the same thing."

It's not like this should be too big a surprise: the quality of the game is directly related to the intensity of the effort when it comes to the Pro Bowl, and that's exactly why it was a sloppy boring game that drew criticism from everyone remotely involved in the process. (That the game still managed to pull big ratings should tell you exactly how popular the NFL is.)

With all the complaints from fans and the media -- and some players -- it wouldn't be surprising to find out that McCoy's comments didn't sit well with the league, even if he is just talking about an All-Star Game.

There's no pressure to change the game until fans quit watching it.  The article says the game pulled big ratings so the NFL got paid well to show it.  Isn't it kind of stupid to watch something you hate year after year, hoping that it will be different this time and then complaining that the NFL should scrap the game you indirectly pay the NFL to show every year by watching?  Suggest all the changes you want but if the NFL doesn't do anything about it just do something else with your time.  The NFL will get the message a lot faster than if you keep watching and complaining.

the NFL pro bowl is a waste. eliminate the game. just honor those selected with an announcement and 1 hour TV show.

the players don't want to get hurt. the fans don't want them to get hurt either.
who are the people watching this mess anyway? get a life.

So, McCoy's efforts in the Pro Bowl mirror DeSean Jackson's during the entire regular season?  I bet McCoy will put a little effort into cashing his Pro Bowl check. And speaking of that...due to the effort- or lack thereof- in the game...every player's check should donated to an NFL charity of their choice.

I completely understand why a player would not try. Their contracts are not guaranteed so if they suffer a serious injury their playing careers could be over or seriously derailed. All for a chance to play in meaningless game. And for Rodgers....what an idiot. Must be real easy to complain about players not willing to risk injury when all you have to do is sit back in the pocket with little pass rush and throw the ball. I would be willing to bet that if some defensive player came in and just reamed him in a pass rush that Rodgers would be complaining that some players were too overzealous in what should be a "fun" game.

And the dumbest post ever goes to... BREES4MVP

Nice McCoy.  He should be banned from ever going again to this joke of a game.  Also, make him pay back the 25K he got for not trying.  Last, fine the hell out of him for being such an embarassment to the League.  No wonder the "Dream Team" did so well this year.  It carries over, so don't try to tell me that he only did it in this exhibition game, etc... True winners who compete, do so ALWAYS.  This tells me that I would never want this douche on my team. Period.

Led the NFC in Rushing TDs and top 5 in rushing and total yards. Wow, can you imagine if he tried. Moron!
