LeSean McCoy admits he didn't try at the Pro Bowl

INDIANAPOLIS -- LeSean McCoy had a heck of a season in 2011, rushing for 1,309 yards and 17 touchdowns. It netted him the FedEx Ground Player of the Year on Wednesday at the Super Bowl. And it also landed him a trip to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl.

While there, McCoy was on the NFC team that Aaron Rodgers believes should be "embarrassed" by a lack of effort. Actually, he was "one of those guys" that didn't try, and said so himself on Wednesday.

"Yeah? I'm one of those guys," McCoy said when asked about Rodgers comments. "You walk around every practice and the guys before the games on other teams are like 'take your time' because we're going on a very slow pace, very easy.

"And you get out there and you see guys half-doing it and you do the same thing."

It's not like this should be too big a surprise: the quality of the game is directly related to the intensity of the effort when it comes to the Pro Bowl, and that's exactly why it was a sloppy boring game that drew criticism from everyone remotely involved in the process. (That the game still managed to pull big ratings should tell you exactly how popular the NFL is.)

With all the complaints from fans and the media -- and some players -- it wouldn't be surprising to find out that McCoy's comments didn't sit well with the league, even if he is just talking about an All-Star Game.

LeSean McCoy admits he didn't try at the Pro Bowl

Why is this a story?  Anyone with eyes could see that it was 1/2 speed on every running play and for the linemen on every play.

Do we really need verbal confirmation of this?

LeSean McCoy admits he didn't try at the Pro Bowl

the old days of the "superstars" would be far better than anything they currently have. very similar to last post, position players compete against position players. it really isnt that tough to fill a couple of hours with agility, speed, strength tests that the players get PAID to win and finish 2nd. that will get their attention especially when they need cash for bail or their baby mommas!

5 things the NFL  should or could do instead of the Pro Bowl.

1. You still choose your all-pros and have agility contests. QB furthest throw, speed of throw and accuracy
WR speed 40 time, vertical jump, catching drill
RB speed 40 time, vertical jump, agility drill
                                                                                                             K longest field goal,

2. Go the way of the NHL and have 2 QB's pick there own fantasy starters.

3. The winning team receives $75,000.00 in bonus money. When all else fails even the rich wanna get richer.

4. Leave the Pro Bowl in the Super Bowl city. It makes much more sense for players and fans. Most of the players end up attending the      Super Bowl anyway.

5. It's 2012, try some new technology. Microchip in ball, some electronic measuring yard markers. A football that could somehow
change color the secong there is a turnover.

Think about it before you trash it.

The pro bowl is a waste.  They should do away with the game and just honor those that deserve it.

The Pro Bowl has always been a joke. remember Barry Switzer eating a hot dog and Barry Sanders sitting on the AFC side for awhile.

I don't blame guys like LeSean McCoy for playing the way he did.  This is the norm for the Pro Bowl.  I do admire guys like Aaron Rodgers and Brandon Marshall who do try during the Pro Bowl.
