Gronk should get plenty of questions on Friday as well. (AP)

INDIANAPOLIS -- Rob Gronkowski returned to practice on a limited basis for the Patriots Thursday afternoon after an entire week of speculation about whether or not he would be able to play on Sunday.

But Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn't officially put to rest any of the concern about Gronk possibly missing the game when he delayed any further decision on Friday.

Full Super Bowl Coverage

"He did some things. He didn’t do everything," Belichick said following practice. "We’ll see how he is tomorrow. I think that will be the big key – how he responds to this today."

Gronk's status early on Friday at the media session will be telling; if he's moving around well and able to walk without any serious limitations, it'll be an excellent sign for New England. (We noted earlier on Thursday that Gronk was "strutting" prior to the media session and fake limping afterwards.)

“It was good. It was fine," Belichick said when asked how Gronk performed. "We’ll see where he is tomorrow -- whether that set him back, whether it didn’t and whether he’s able to continue to progress on a daily basis. But it was a good test for him, too, at least.

"At least he was out here and did some things to see how it feels. We’ll see how it goes."

Gronkowski, per our Patriots Rapid Reporter Paul Dehner Jr., called getting back to practice "huge" and "significant."

"It's definitely huge, significant," Gronkowski said. "Obviously I want to get out there, I want to get some practice in before the Super Bowl. I want to do as much as possible, whatever I can do before the game. We'll see how I am feeling, talk to the training staff, talk to the coaches, put it all together."

Gronkowski returns to Patriots practice Thursday

Regardless of the situation, no one can "Gronk" this kid.  He's 6'7", doesn't have any fear whatsoever, and this is the Super Bowl.  He's been dreaming of this longer than he can remember.  A nice little shot in the ankle and a seriously good tape job is all it will take for this kid to do the same thing he's done all year.  He'll probably haul in about 6 or 7 catches, 1 for a TD and the rest will be 1st downs.  He'll open up the middle of the field for Welker and Branch.  Go Patriots!!!!

Gronkowski returns to Patriots practice Thursday

Line him up in the back field on the very first play and run it right down their throats!People will be comparing the THE GRONK to the beast Bronko Nagurski after this one. We'll hear the rumors once more of how Cowher will replace Tom. We're all in for a surprise just like the last time these 2 teams met.Surprise surprise it wasn't even close as the Pats wrap it up by half time. EXPECT A BLOW OUT!

Gronkowski returns to Patriots practice Thursday

FYI. the combo in NY fans is this about 80% of the time: Giants and Yankees(thats the category I am in)....Jets and Mets, and to take it one step further Giants and Yankees Fan are usuall NY Rangers fans as well and Jets and Mets fan are usually Islander fans.  Enjoy the Super Bowl and a repeat of four years ago.

Gronkowski returns to Patriots practice Thursday

Have the Patriots officially said Gronk has a high ankle sprain? All I know is his father said he did and the media ran with it.  What kind of ankle sprain requires surgery?  If surgery is involved it's not a sprain.  Don't blame the Patriots for being misinformed blame the media for running with this and overblowing the severity of the injury.  Gronk is injured but it's not as bad as Freeny or Pouncy's ankles were.  If he has been walking without a boot since Monday then the chances of him playing is better than Freeny and Pouncy.  Freeny ankle as swollen like a grapefruit on media day and he played.  I'm not saying Gronk is 100% I'm just saying he will most likely play and be a factor for the Patriots.Cool

Gronkowski returns to Patriots practice Thursday

Hey NYTOFLA - you may be right since New England fans don't know either!  But Coughlin uses the same tactics and in my opinion one of the top 3 coaches in the league (stop trying to get rid of him every year!  Do you want Rex Ryan!)

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter for either coach at this point and the smallest mistakes in this game will make the difference.  Funny thing is as much as i hate the J-E-T-S I admire the Giants.  Go figure (Yankees S*** :)

A co-worker of mine loves the Giants and Mets so is that the combination in New York?
I can live with that combination but the Jets and Yankees is the dark empire - despised!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gronkowski returns to Patriots practice Thursday

If it weren't for the Patriots and if it weren't for Belichick, I might be buying this about his ankle. I'm sure Gronk will be at 100% on Sunday. Belichick knows how to blow smoke with the best of them. He's hoping that the Giants will be expecting an under performing Gronkowski who will  actually be in tiptop shape at game time. That is Belichick's M. O. That is the Patriot's normal way of using disinformation to further their cause! Very little truth has emanated from New England. Go Giants!

Gronkowski returns to Patriots practice Thursday

I agree that having both tight ends is a huge factor, and will make the Super Bowl that much more interesting.  I would like all players on both teams healthy to have a great game and knock down fight :)

As for Chad Ochocinco you never know.  I'm still waiting for him to make 3 catches in a game!!!!  He seems a bit lost but you never know this could be the one - but I say that eveeeeeeeeeery game.

Look at Hernandez, Green-Ellis Riddley (Hmmm we'll see as a break away), Welker who seems to be forgotten, and Deion Branch - not kidding.  The Giants can kill the Patriots downfield if this season is an indicator so we'll see how this goes but as always GO PATS!
