Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

It's getting ugly between Manning and Irsay... (Getty Images)

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Peyton Manning saga is in full public relations mode. And despite a promise from Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay that things reached a peace accord, everything managed to turn sour again late on Thursday night, courtesy of Jim Irsay's Twitter account and a report that Manning was "cleared" to return to playing football.

That report surfaced Thursday afternoon and then Irsay tweeted late on Thursday that indicated Peyton was, in fact, not clear, physically speaking.

"Peyton has not passed our physical nor has he been cleared to play for The Indianapolis Colts," Irsay tweeted. "Team statement coming on Friday."

This is about to get ugly, and it's about to get ugly quickly. There was some reconciliation of feelings between Irsay and Manning before the media arrived in Indianapolis earlier in the week. That almost put the Colts long-term situation at quarterback on the backburner when it comes to Indianapolis Star front pages. It hasn't.

Instead, things have somehow managed to become more awkward. Manning -- vis a vis a report -- was declared eligible to start playing football. This said nothing about the arm strength of Manning, who's recovering from nerve damage.

Irsay's tweet, on the other hand, speaks directly to Manning's lack of health, as it pertains to the Colts decision to pick up his $28 million option.

Peyton might well be healthy, but it matters little at this point, because the salvos are fired. Manning says he's healthy enough to play football. (Ergo, he believes he should be paid to be played football, right?)

And Irsay -- and the Colts -- disagree, and, ergo, Manning shouldn't be paid to play football. At least for the Colts. It's a nightmare of epic proportions for everyone involved and, despite the quite pleasant Super Bowl taking place in Indianapolis, this story is casting a cloud over the normally fun activities taking place in Indiana.

Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

I have worked with cervical and lumbar fusion. Cervical fusion could provide a person better physical function then they had PRIOR to surgery. Fact is, every cervical fusion person's situation is different. If a cervical disc is impinging upon a nerve that is affecting upper appendage function, such as for example throwing accuracy and arm strength, cervical fusion could actually pacify those problems and help to restore substantial activity .

I've had 2 neck surgerys and the way I see it cleared to play is one thing. Throwing the ball down the field 40-50 yards is a whole other thing after 2 neck surgerys. But 6'5" 260 lbs guys tring to plant you in the turf is way to much to ask. Peyton, retire while you still have your health. You don't want to raise those kids from a wheelchair . You could be 1 good hit away from permanet retirement.

Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

First of all you have a superbowl in your city. Why would you say anything during superbowl week about payton manning's status? Wait until the darn thing is over and enjoy your cities time in the spotlight. Then sort it out. I won't say that they are both classless, but this situation does lack a little bit of class. Especially for the fan in the indy during what should be an exciting week for them.

NOTHING PERSONAL
JUST BUSINESS
Colts were playing the "SUCK 4 LUCK" game from the very start.
I'm sure they noticed that Peyton wasn't progressing and decided to TANK.

Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

Does anyone involved in this situation have any class whatsoever? This is Superbowl week. Is Peyton jealous that this is his brothers time in the sun? Why did he have to say hes been medically cleared yesterday? That couldnt wait til monday? Let me preface this by explaining I am not a Giants fan so there is no bias here. This is superbowl week. To be talking about anything NFL other than the superbowl is garbage. If Peyton can play next year, great, hes great for the league and great to watch. Unless hes doing all this to divert attention away from his brother so he can concentrate on the game iteself at his brothers request, then I think this has become very selfish to almost Favre-like proportions.

This is why players hold out!

Remember this the next time an player holds out of camp or dosen't sign right away after the draft. Some fans call these players selfish, but look what they are doing to Payton the ultimate team player.

@middles00  Help me out here. Why would Manning or even Irsay care about public image? I guess what im trying to say is they haven't cared so far. Irsay has already pissed off his fans. The Colts need more than Manning to be any good next year. But thats another story.
