INDIANAPOLIS -- While much has been made of Bill Belichick’s seemingly happy mood since the Patriots arrived here for Super Bowl XLVI, at least one of his former players has to be mighty upset with him tonight.

Latest from the Super Bowl
That’d be wide receiver Tiquan Underwood, who was released from the squad about 24 hours (!) before New England faces the Giants at Lucas Oil Stadium. In his place, the Patriots have signed rookie defensive end Alex Silvestro to the active roster.

As the Boston Herald points out, Underwood almost surely would receive a Super Bowl ring if the Patriots win and that the move was not disciplinary.

Speculation has centered on the Patriots perhaps wanting an extra defensive linemen to move into the rotation and that, without Underwood in the lineup, Chad Ochocinco most likely will be active for Sunday’s game.

Underwood’s classy reaction, via Twitter? “This Is Nothing But MOTIVATION.... I Been Thru A LOT...But There Are Ppl In This World w/ More Serious Problems So I Cant Hang The Head....Thank You Lord … Good Luck To The New Enland Organization, The Coaches, & All My Teammates... #PatsNation”

But even though the Giants can't claim Underwood via waivers (they couldn't do so until Monday), I honestly love the idea presented by the New York Post’s Bart Hubbuch, who writes “Giants should ... hire him as a "quality control coach" like Josh McDaniels. I'm serious.”

I got nothing either, ... unless it means that Gronk is REALLY good to go.  Then they can use another defensive player rather than hold a receiver for 'just in case'.  But even so, as a life long Patriot fan, I got nothing.

Something like this makes it tough to cheer for the Pats.  I've been on the Pats side on these boards all season long and I've defended them when idiots say stupid things.

But how can I defend this?  I tried coming up with something... but...

I've got nothing......

They have this game under control khan? Like they did in 2007? I admire your confidence and hope it jumps up and bites you in the a$$. Neither team has this in control and it should come down to the wire. Hopefully Eli can take control.

Being a Packer fan, I have no dog in this fight, but are you kidding me? Belichick didn't know until the day before the game that he needed another defensive linemen? To have what you have worked your whole life for, taken away the day before the game? If I were Underwood, I don't think that I could have mustered as much class as he's shown.
I think the NFL should make a rule that after the championsip games for both conferences, the team rosters must be set, except in the case of injury.
To make sure that this doesn't happen again.

What a classy guy. To say what he did is pretty amazing. There are so many guys that would be so upset and talk trash about the team that just cut them, Seems like Underwood is a true professional that will use this as a teaching tool and motavation for next year. Good luck to this man where ever he ends up.

Bill Bellicheat is overrated and classless, as is Brady... I hope the Giants injure brady on the first play and end his career... then take bellicheats knees out on the next play and end his career as well... that would be a great superbowl of course with the giants winning

I think Bill did him a solid. He wasn't going to play much and doubt few ever knew of him. Now he has a story to tell and can be hardluck canidate. Still I thinks the pats have this game under control. Give Bill two weeks and he will shred a defence. Good luck Mr. Underwood, I hope you get a ring to go along with your story. I liked the class, it was refreshing.
