INDIANAPOLIS -- Last Sunday's Pro Bowl was a sloppily-played joke of a game that was ripped by fans and the media. Aaron Rodgers came out and said some of his NFC teammates should be "embarrassed" by the way they played. LeSean McCoy told us that he was "one of those guys" who didn't try.

Which may explain why Roger Goodell said on Sunday morning that the NFL is "considering eliminating" the Pro Bowl.

Latest from the Super Bowl

"I really didn't think that was the kind of football that we want to be demonstrating for our fans," Goodell said on Mike and Mike Sunday morning. "And you heard it from the fans. The fans were actively booing in the stands. They didn't like what they were seeing."

At the very least, Goodell said, something's going to change or the game will go away.

"We're either going to have to improve the quality of what we're doing in the Pro Bowl or consider other changes or even considering eliminating the game if that's the kind of quality game we're going to provide," Goodell said. "I know players love to be in Hawaii but we have to start with the quality of what we're doing.

"If the fans are responding negatively to what we're doing, we better listen. And that was my message."

Say whatever you want about Goodell (and if you're a Steelers fan, you'll probably say a lot), but the guy knows how to make the game of football more popular. If getting rid of the Pro Bowl does that, then Goodell won't hesitate to do so.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

If you really want it watched put it back on free TV. If no one watches it for free then it's time to put it down.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

Move the SB the week earlier and Pro Bowl a week later. That way SB teams get their guys an opportunity to go to Hawaii. That's the way it's always been. MLB All Star game determines home field for the WS. Make the Pro Bowl relevant/matter too somehow.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

No blitzing...No hittin em too hard boys...Definitely don't hit our precious Quarterbacks that are made of "Angels breath"...Come on, the pro-bowl is and has been a joke since it was moved before the Superbowl.  Not all change is good Mr. Goodell.  To expound on that theory, how bout letting defenses play during the regular season.  The offense can... run reverses, fumblerooskies, half- back pass, flea-flicker, screen, wildcat, double-reciever pass, double reverse on and on.  Yet on defense... don't hit this way, don't hit that way.  Heck give Ray Lewis a valium before the game so he can hit softer. Give me a break.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

I totall agree with Goodell. It's a meaningless game. It's played before the Super Bowl, eliminating some of the best players. Why play it and risk getting hurt? One way of avoiding getting hurt is not playing with a 100% effort. Just as a college football player can be proud of being labeled an All-American, a pro player should be honored as a Pro Bowl pick. I second the motion!!!!

Make the Pro Bowl weekend a skills competition. Find out who the fastest and strongest man is in the NFL. Pride and bragging rights willl ensure they give 100 percent.
They already do skills competitions.  ESPN plays them during the day on Saturday or over night.  They get minimal ratings.

Let's just drop the game, correct the voting to actually reward a great season - THAT season, and make a nice set of 1st team, 2nd, 3rd-team for the newspapers and web services like here.
You mean like naming All-Pro's?  Pretty sure that's already being done.

That's a very good idea.  It would give players from the Super Bowl teams an opportunity to play in it.

One other idea may be to move it back to Los Angeles, where it was based for more than  20 years, from 1951 until 1972, when it was played at the Coliseum.

I agree!

The pro bowl has become a joke and if its going to continue its course they just need to get rid of it!

Make it a skills competition

Who can blame these players for not wanting to go all out? Make the Pro Bowl weekend a skills competition. Find out who the fastest and strongest man is in the NFL. Pride and bragging rights willl ensure they give 100 percent.
