INDIANAPOLIS -- Last Sunday's Pro Bowl was a sloppily-played joke of a game that was ripped by fans and the media. Aaron Rodgers came out and said some of his NFC teammates should be "embarrassed" by the way they played. LeSean McCoy told us that he was "one of those guys" who didn't try.

Which may explain why Roger Goodell said on Sunday morning that the NFL is "considering eliminating" the Pro Bowl.

Latest from the Super Bowl

"I really didn't think that was the kind of football that we want to be demonstrating for our fans," Goodell said on Mike and Mike Sunday morning. "And you heard it from the fans. The fans were actively booing in the stands. They didn't like what they were seeing."

At the very least, Goodell said, something's going to change or the game will go away.

"We're either going to have to improve the quality of what we're doing in the Pro Bowl or consider other changes or even considering eliminating the game if that's the kind of quality game we're going to provide," Goodell said. "I know players love to be in Hawaii but we have to start with the quality of what we're doing.

"If the fans are responding negatively to what we're doing, we better listen. And that was my message."

Say whatever you want about Goodell (and if you're a Steelers fan, you'll probably say a lot), but the guy knows how to make the game of football more popular. If getting rid of the Pro Bowl does that, then Goodell won't hesitate to do so.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

The best idea I heard on this was turning into a skills competition for all positions.  The players still get their trip to Hawaii, and we get the best linemen go head to head in lifting competitions, maybe some 1 on 1 type stuff.  No one gets hurt, and its way more entertaining than a flag football game.

You might as well just make it a flag football game! I say axe it.

Are they getting rid of it because the effort sucks or because a guy like Matt Stafford can have one of the greatest years ever and not get to go because of marketing other players?  Both?

They should keep it and make it a rookie game where the seasons best rookies are nominated and play for their respective conference. To guarantee that the game be played with 100% participation, the winning conference should get to choose whether or not the team that represent their conference in the Superbowl kicks or recieves eliminating the coin toss.

Axe it / don't axe it - don't care.   After the most recently played "game", there is absolutely NO WAY I shall watch another let along spend money to go see it.    Which means, the Sponsors have also wasted their money.....

Commissioner:  bring back the 3rd - place game instead !!!

The Pro Bowl SHOULD get axed.

It's certainly not going to get better. There's no way to improve an exhibition.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

Goodell wants to get rid of the Pro Bowl, and most of us agree, it is time for the game to go. You just can't reward these guys with another chance to dismember their bodies in a meaningless game. The players are too valuable these days, and have too much at risk if they get injured. So, why play hard.

Still, they should be honored for their great seasons. So, let's ditch the dumbasses that want to use the half-time show to rekindle their dying careers - or giving some free pub to a talentless hanger-on that flips the bird and curses on national TV so they will get talked about. Let's have a Super Bowl halftime show, where the Pro Bowlers are announced and handed an award and are rewarded, in front of milions and millions of viewers, for a great season. No game, no gimmicks, just great players getting recognized. This should take 15-20 minutes and then its back to the Super Bowl Game. Fixes two problems - no more Pro Bowl and no more half-time goofs!

The game has got to go. No one wants to watch a bunch of millionaires, basking in the sun in Hawaii, playing a glorified touch football game. Its plainly obvious the elite players go for the free ticket and a tan. Would much rather have the old Saturday SuperStars skills competition.
