INDIANAPOLIS -- Last Sunday's Pro Bowl was a sloppily-played joke of a game that was ripped by fans and the media. Aaron Rodgers came out and said some of his NFC teammates should be "embarrassed" by the way they played. LeSean McCoy told us that he was "one of those guys" who didn't try.

Which may explain why Roger Goodell said on Sunday morning that the NFL is "considering eliminating" the Pro Bowl.

Latest from the Super Bowl

"I really didn't think that was the kind of football that we want to be demonstrating for our fans," Goodell said on Mike and Mike Sunday morning. "And you heard it from the fans. The fans were actively booing in the stands. They didn't like what they were seeing."

At the very least, Goodell said, something's going to change or the game will go away.

"We're either going to have to improve the quality of what we're doing in the Pro Bowl or consider other changes or even considering eliminating the game if that's the kind of quality game we're going to provide," Goodell said. "I know players love to be in Hawaii but we have to start with the quality of what we're doing.

"If the fans are responding negatively to what we're doing, we better listen. And that was my message."

Say whatever you want about Goodell (and if you're a Steelers fan, you'll probably say a lot), but the guy knows how to make the game of football more popular. If getting rid of the Pro Bowl does that, then Goodell won't hesitate to do so.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

The nature of the game and the timing of when it is played has a few issues...

1. Super Bowl teams most likely have key guys selected for the Pro Bowl game... who would risk getting hurt during the Pro Bowl and miss the Super Bowl?
2. This is a extremely physical game with a high risk of getting hurt. Again, who would risk their career during a game that has no meaning, no matter if it is played before or after the Super Bowl...
3. Most if not all of the players selected for the Pro Bowl are grateful that they were selected by their league, but to risk career ending injuries is something that is paramount to them...

Being selected is a privilege and they will cherish it, but not playing to their physical abilities would always be secondary to their careers...

Really Roger?  You deluded yourself into saying the fans wanted an 18 game schedule when the response was overwhelmingly in favor of keeping it at 16.  The fans also don't want more than one regular season game in London and don't want to see any teams based in London, they want the kickoffs at the 30, they don't want to see any more rules changes that stop defense from being played, they hate missing games that are on NFL Network and still don't want to subscribe to it, they want 32 teams and no more, they think the "NFL Emmy Awards" are pathetic, and they don't mind 'excessive' touchdown celebrations.  At least you heard the fans' opinion that the Pro Bowl is a joke.

Nobody wants to see the pro bowl. It's a stupid game where they just run up and down the field and occasionally, someone makes a defensive play. The game is boring...as a Cowboys fan, or a fan of football, it doesn't matter. I would personally love to see the game get axed. It's not worth the price to see in person or on the tube. A rerun of the Express would have been a lot more exciting.

Just get rid of the stupid game. It doesnt mean anything, players that arent qualified go and NO player is going to go balls to the wall and risk an injury. Just pick a first team O and D for each conference and send out awards ...leave the GD fans out of it so players who deserve teh award actually get it.

Yet people bash Selig for actually making the all star game count for something.

The whole pro bowl experience is cool......right about up to the game.  The player-fan interaction, skills challenges...things of that nature should stay but the game itself...well yea we all have our thoughts on that.
