INDIANAPOLIS -- Last Sunday's Pro Bowl was a sloppily-played joke of a game that was ripped by fans and the media. Aaron Rodgers came out and said some of his NFC teammates should be "embarrassed" by the way they played. LeSean McCoy told us that he was "one of those guys" who didn't try.

Which may explain why Roger Goodell said on Sunday morning that the NFL is "considering eliminating" the Pro Bowl.

Latest from the Super Bowl

"I really didn't think that was the kind of football that we want to be demonstrating for our fans," Goodell said on Mike and Mike Sunday morning. "And you heard it from the fans. The fans were actively booing in the stands. They didn't like what they were seeing."

At the very least, Goodell said, something's going to change or the game will go away.

"We're either going to have to improve the quality of what we're doing in the Pro Bowl or consider other changes or even considering eliminating the game if that's the kind of quality game we're going to provide," Goodell said. "I know players love to be in Hawaii but we have to start with the quality of what we're doing.

"If the fans are responding negatively to what we're doing, we better listen. And that was my message."

Say whatever you want about Goodell (and if you're a Steelers fan, you'll probably say a lot), but the guy knows how to make the game of football more popular. If getting rid of the Pro Bowl does that, then Goodell won't hesitate to do so.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

Oooh....axe the Pro Bowl. Goodell, who flippin' cares? Obviously your players don't care. Athletes fon't play for the "love of the game" anymore. it's all about money to them. Make it a skills competition glorified from the NFL Combine skills. See how many passes a QB can complete to moving targets in so much time. See how fast a RB can get through a "gauntlet of mechanical dummies" in x amount of yards. See how many catches a WR can make in so much time. See how fast it takes a DL to get through "blocking dummies" to sack a QB. See how many interceptions a DB can either deflect or catch. K's can go by yardage of field goals and work their way by points per distance. Same for punters. Just a thought.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

The game should have been eliminated 10 years ago. It's not football. The only way players are going to risk injury and try is if you make it pay for play. Winners get paid and losers dont. Even then it's still going to be boring with all of the rule modifications. I'd like to see them eliminate the game and go with a skills competition. Or just abandon it all together.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

Here is your solution to the half hearted play in the Pro Bowl. winner take all. 25 grand plus all expenses to each player on the winning team. the players on the losing team get zilch, not even the expenses. Never work because the players are too used to being babied and it makes too much sense.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

If I want to watch some pro caliber players play a game of touch football I will watch reruns of a Bret Favre wrangler jeans comercial because thats all the entertainment value this game has.

Get rid of it! Nobody will miss it because nobody watches it because nobody cares. The game is a meaningless joke. Every player is advised by their agent not to play with any effort  which risks injury (and their contract).

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

Keeping this event is like trying to put a square peg in a round hole.  Like the last post says, no one wants to play in. There's no way to play the game in the middle of the season like the other sports. If they could find a way to work in the top college players they're might be more interest. A popular pre-season game years ago was the College Allstars versus an NFL team. I believe they used to play the game at Soldier Field.

In any event, the game needs an overhaul in the worst way. Rookies versus veterans? White versus Black? North versus South? Odd versus even? Paper, rock, scissors?

So Mr. Goodell what would you like? would you like the defense to hit so you can fine them????

It's impossible to run real plays, the defense does not want to hit, the players don't want to be there, the fans son't want to watch it.  Name an all AFC and an all NFC team to give credit where it is due, and skip the game.  No one cares.
